Chapter 99 - 99 Xiao Ming

99 Xiao Ming

“I thought you weren’t in the dormitory. I’m sorry, did I wake you up?” Yin Tao thought that Bai Luo would stay at the police station to continue working on the case, so she wasn’t careful about opening the door softly.

“It’s fine. I just came back not long ago.” Bai Luo stretched and got out of bed to take a sip of water. “You’re busy with the burial case, right?”

“Yes, I just came back from the autopsy lab. Captain Chen brought the person who reported the case back to the police station. Did you see him?” Yin Tao took off her clothes and placed them in the dirty laundry basket, preparing to take a shower in the bathroom.

“I didn’t see him. Captain Chen handed the case to the other police officers in division two. If the police officers in our team kept up this pace, they would definitely die young.”

Bai Luo sighed deeply and complained, “I don’t know what’s going on in City A recently. The murders keep coming one after another. Captain Feng has been following up on the Wei Corporation’s case. Ji Yu has been keeping tabs on the black market and the dismemberment case. Xia Jin and I were originally investigating the missing persons, but we didn’t expect another corpse to be buried.”

“Captain Chen has transferred Deputy Captain Zhang’s men over to help solve the case. We still have to interrogate the person who reported the case tomorrow. Our detective team has never been so busy, not even during the Chinese new year.”

Bai Luo lay back on the bed. She especially cherished her rest time now.

“Hurry up and sleep. I’ll take a shower before sleeping.” Yin Tao took her toiletries into the bathroom and turned on the showerhead. As the warm water ran over her body, Yin Tao felt the soreness in her body ease up a little.

If she had not practiced self-defense with Feng Jing for an hour, she might have felt better.

Although Yin Tao felt extremely uncomfortable, she didn’t blame Feng Jing one bit. After all, she knew that having some self-defense skills was better than waiting for help on the spot.

After taking a shower as quickly as possible, Yin Tao tiptoed out of the bathroom. Bai Luo had already fallen asleep. Yin Tao lay on the bed without making a sound. Perhaps it was because she was too tired, she quickly fell into a deep sleep.

The next morning, Yin Tao was woken up by Bai Luo’s alarm clock.

“Xiaotao, sleep a little longer. I’ll go to the police station first.” Bai Luo tidied up briefly and walked out of the dormitory tiredly.

Although Yin Tao hadn’t gotten up, she was clearly no longer sleepy.

Yin Tao was still preoccupied by the case yesterday. After struggling on the bed for a while, she decided to go to the police station to take a look at the complainant, who was Song Yi’s husband.

When Yin Tao arrived at the police station, Song Yi’s husband and Feng Jing had just entered the interrogation room.

“Elder sister Yin, why are you here?” Ji Yu had heard from Feng Jing that he had gone to the autopsy lab with Yin Tao last night and thought that Yin Tao would be resting today.

“I couldn’t let go of yesterday’s case, so I woke up early to take a look.” Yin Tao sat on the bench outside the interrogation room. After all, this wasn’t her first time here.

“Elder sister Yin, you missed what happened just now. The husband of the deceased had just caused a commotion for a while and was almost pulled away by the hospital.” Ji Yu pointed at the man in the interrogation room and said to Yin Tao, “That person’s name is Xiao Ming. He’s the husband of the deceased, Song Yi.”

Yin Tao recognized the middle-aged man she had seen at Cheng Yu villa in the eastern suburbs the night before. However, he looked even more haggard now.

“No wonder he broke down.” Ji Yu looked sympathetically at the man in the interrogation room whose head was lowered. “It’s already bad enough that his wife was killed, and now he is in such a state. Tsk, the murderer is simply a lunatic!”

Although Ji Yu didn’t go to the crime scene the night before, he saw the photos taken at the scene as he was organizing the case file.

“A person who made someone look like a monster, and then murdered her, what is he if he isn’t a lunatic?” Yin Tao muttered softly, but her eyes were on Xiao Ming.

As the first person to be found at the crime scene and the victim’s husband, Xiao Ming was really a little suspicious.

Yin Tao listened to Feng Jing and Xiao Ming’s conversation in the interrogation room seriously, wanting to understand if he had a motive to kill Song Yi.

“Drink some water and calm down.” Feng Jing sat opposite Xiao Ming and could feel the sadness and pain of the man in front of him.

“Although it’s hard for you to accept, both the fingerprints and the DNA test indicate that the victim last night was your wife, Song Yi.”

Feng Jing’s tone was very calm. A qualified police officer must not be affected by other people’s emotions.

“Impossible, impossible…” Xiao Ming was still shaking his head hard. His eyes were already bloodshot as he looked at Feng Jing. He looked pitiful and terrifying at the same time.
