Chapter 62
Chapter 62
Ten Thousand Thoughts (2)
“A congratulatory gift has come from the State Preceptor’s residence!” When everyone gasped, the boy said joyfully, “The Senior Grand Secretary is currently accompanying the State Preceptor over.”
Speak of the devil.
Ahead, a group of people approached with great fanfare. They were all wearing lavish brocade robes, except for the person in the middle. He was wearing simple and elegant bamboo green long robes, without a single accessory. Though it was clearly plain as can be, the onlookers were completely unable to look away.
He approached with large strides. His eyes were extremely cold, like a handful of the coldest snow at the tip of a divine mountain— just a glance could make one freeze. But when it moved away and landed upon a certain spot, the eyes that were cold as frost curved, and in a moment, melted into water.
Soft and gentle.
Everyone couldn’t help but follow his line of sight. When they saw the blushing Zheng Wan at the receiving end, they all gave an “oh” in unison; it was only natural that this should be the case.
“My good nephew2——”
Zheng Zhai still felt a little guilty towards this person. When one came down to it, the marriage agreement between the Zhengs and the Cuis had been passed down from his grandfather’s generation, but because both sides only had males in his generation, they had no choice but to pass the agreement on to the next generation. At that time, the Cui family had collapsed. How could he bear to marry his delicate daughter off to such a poor family to suffer? Thus, he found an excuse to drive him out.
Who could have imagined that, years later, things would turn out like this?
“Everything that had happened in the past was my fault. If you want to blame someone, blame me. Wanwan was so young then and didn’t know any better——”
But Cui Wang had already stepped over the threshold and walked straight up to Zheng Wan. He spread out his palm towards her. “Phoenix pendant.”
Zheng Wan yielded to him dazedly; she reached out to remove the phoenix pendant that was hanging from her waist and handed it to him.
Cui Wang put his palms together; suddenly, a white light burst from his palms, so piercing that everyone closed their eyes.
“Blood.” Zheng Wan felt a pain in her fingertips, and a small whirlwind carried her blood into the phoenix pendant in a rush.
“Cui Wang, what are you doing?”
She tiptoed curiously to look.
Cui Wang gathered his focus to one point, then with a burst of vital energy, a phoenix suddenly rushed out of the phoenix pendant. It played around in the sky with a fire dragon that had appeared unbeknownst to them, circling the residence once, then swooped down, sunk back into the phoenix pendant, and disappeared.
Everyone in the room threw themselves to the ground and kowtowed reverently.
“A miracle! A divine miracle!”
Cui Wang tied the phoenix pendant on a thread of silk and hung it around her neck. “This object is called ‘Phoenix Jade’. It is made from the essence of flowing light and phoenix feathers. If you wear it, I will be able to come to you anytime, anywhere.”
Zheng Wan suddenly remembered that whenever she had heart palpitations in the past, she could relieve the pain by holding onto the phoenix pendant.
Looking at this now, could it be that it wasn’t just his dragon pendant, but her phoenix pendant too, had special abilities?
In her dream, after Cui Wang had been flogged on her orders, his dragon pendant fell to the ground and broke. Coincidentally, his blood dripped on it, and it recognised Cui Wang as its master, giving him a slew of abilities. Within these abilities, was that omniscient sword energy that could split both heaven and earth. There was also the Cui family’s powerful old ancestor, who had been a source of guidance and gags ever since——
That immaculate glazed body of his, which everyone in the cultivation world coveted, was also the result of the dragon pendant.
This so-called ‘Phoenix Jade’…
If it really was a pair with the dragon pendant, it shouldn’t be too feeble.
The old ancestor was turning over and over in Cui Wang’s sea of consciousness.
“Xiao Wangwang, you let the ‘Phoenix Jade’ recognise her as its master, so that if she fancies someone else in the future, it would let you know immediately, so you can go over and kill your love rival, right?
Dirty, what a dirty heart.”
Zheng Wan touched the phoenix pendant carefully, and the corners of her mouth curved up.
“Cui Wang, you’re so nice.”
Cui Wang pursed his lips; there was actually the hint of a smile in his eyes. Zheng Zhai led him to a seat. Zheng Wan made a gesture of “I’ll be right back” to him, and with the pretext of changing clothes, went to the pretending to change clothes and went to the left side room of the main hall.
She wasn’t afraid that Cui Wang would peep.
He had always been very decent when he was not having an “attack”.
Luodai shut the door and retreated to the side.
Zheng Wan took out the marriage talisman Rong Yi had just given her from her scented pouch. Slowly, she cut it open with a pair of scissors, took out a tightly-rolled wax pill3 and opened it. In it, there were only four words.
“Liu Yi has escaped.”
Footnotes:
2 my good nephew: 贤侄 xian zhi; literally means “virtuous nephew”. A complimentary term of address for one’s junior of the next generation, hence the ‘nephew’ term. It doesn’t literally refer to a blood-related nephew.
3 wax pill: 蜡丸 la wan; to knead secret letters into small balls and encased it with wax/ placed in a wax shell. Because of its small size, it can be easily hidden e.g. in the interlayer of clothes or in a bun.
