Awakened: Evolving to Godhood

Chapter 146: Into the nick of it

Chapter 146: Into the nick of it

There was a catch, though.

The statue’s mouth will open wide if a person grabs three of its seven overextended strands of snake-like hair and pull them down at the same time.

Elliot did just that, creating three golden hands that stretched out of his back, grabbed Medusa’s hair strands, and pulled them down.

“Clank!”

Immediately after, her mouth opened up wide enough for her jaw to drop to touch the ground.

He walked up to her front once again. Then, what he saw caused his eyes to widen in surprise!

“Is this some sort of secret passageway?”

The shape of her mouth now replicated the entrance to a cave.

It was wide and long, enough for him to go inside without crouching.

He went inside. Immediately, he met face to face with silence and darkness. The loud rumbles in the forest no longer reached his ears, and only darkness entered his field of vision.

“So this place is cut off from the outside world. I guess it’s truly a safe zone. I can pass the dangers of the night by resting here.”

Of course, he had no plans to stay idle! Exploring this mysterious place and uncovering its truth came as his main priority. He refused to believe that something he discovered after so much was only a safe place.

He raised his head and looked at the darkness below with the intent of illuminating it. Immediately, the godly matrix in his soul absorbed several units of the essence of life from his body to realize his thought. His eyes widened as rays of golden light shoots out of them, ripping apart the darkness and illuminating this place.

He saw a cavern-like passageway with seemingly no end. At least, he couldn’t see it before the rays of light shooting out of his eyes vanished.

However, they had triggered a chain reaction!

The inside of this place was far vaster than its surface. Furthermore, torches were attached to the walls on each side as well. They were in straight lines with a fixed distance between them. They lit up the moment the golden ray of light passed by them.

There was something special about the inside of the statue! Now, he was sure about that! His godly right eye had missed it by a long shot! He inferred that that happened because the surface and the interior of the statue were not the parts of the same body but two different bodies. They existed as individuals, each having its properties and mechanisms.

He lowered his head to stare at the floor of this place, then used the power of his godly right eye to know everything about the place where he currently stood.

A small amount of information drilled into his mind, instantly becoming a part of his memories.

His eyes brightened in amazement. This place was truly unique, one of a kind! First off, the area of this place was vaster than a stadium in length but equal to a corridor in width. Secondly, it came equipped with a passive spirit mark that separates this place from the world outside. Lastly, there was a large passageway leading to the end of this place.

“Interesting,” Elliot said as he started to move further into the darkness.

The light from the torches barely illuminated this place, leaving much of it in shadow. They were not a significant source of illumination.

Although the inside of the statue was generally dark and barely bright, it didn’t matter to Elliot. He easily lit up his surroundings place by creating a few golden creatures. The glow coming out of their bodies illuminated his surroundings entirely. Right after, he ordered all of them to walk in front of him. They walked ahead, illuminating the darkness as he followed after them.

In the deafening silence, only the sound produced by his footsteps echoed, creating a suppressing and eerie atmosphere. Elliot’s senses heightened, and he became more vigilant than ever.

He had only walked ahead for some hours, though, when suddenly the sound of hissing sounded out and then he saw several dozen black snakes with green spots charging out of the shadows and coming towards him.

With a single look at them, he found out that these creatures are intelligent and poisonous, that they use their poison and blade-like tongue to attack.

[-500 units of the essence of life]

[You’ve created five projectiles that can change direction according to your will.]

Before they could come anywhere near him, he used his divine power to create a bow and several arrows.

Whoosh

He instantly shoots them at the monsters, releasing five arrows at the same time.

The five arrows blasted through the air, and that’s how fast they actually moved. Some snakes didn’t even get a chance to take a single inch out of their way before they ripped a hole through their bodies.

While blood spurted out of the newly created holes in their bodies, the golden arrows charged towards their brethren. These snakes weren’t sitting ducks, however. They slapped their tails on the floor, jumping to the left and the right as they evaded the arrows. The arrows went past their bodies, and in the very next split of a second, they opened their mouths, grayish darkness swirling in the center of it, condensing into the shape of droplets that they sprayed towards Elliot.

The moment these droplets entered the air and came in contact with oxygen, they exploded into mists of poisonous gas and surged towards Elliot.

He stood there, not a single trace of panic on his face.

He didn’t give a damn about the poison that came raining down towards him and only focused on controlling his arrows. They curved in mid-air and charged towards the back of their heads.

Many snakes didn’t notice that they were in extreme danger as their backs were facing the arrows. Thus, their heads exploded, and they died without even knowing what killed them.

[You’ve killed 12 Snake with a slight hint of Medusa’s bloodline]

[You’ve gained the right to extract their essence of life]
