Awakened: Evolving to Godhood

Chapter 243: The truth (a)

Chapter 243: The truth (a)

The fact that the soul race had survived the test of time and also fought off many predatory was the best part of it all. They were okay with conquest but against the destruction of civilization. The proof of their stance and conviction was the resistance alliance. They were sponsoring it, giving many resources to their members. Of course, even if Elliot doesn’t join their organization, he would still get resources, but the difference would be huge.

“As you can see, we two are already in on it, and that’s why we get to come here without participating in any trial.”

When Theo said those words, Elliot clutched his chest, acting as if ten thousand arrows had pierced his head; even his expression dimmed severely. No one ever asked whether he wanted to join the resistance or not. Otherwise, he would’ve agreed to skip the trouble of going multiple trials and come here directly!

Why were Theo and John the only lucky ones? Was it because their race was different?

Yes, that might be it! Elliot determined that the members of the soul race are racists that favor elves and vampires more than humans!

“That’s too damn unfair.”

Although he said that, he was glad that he wasn’t given that chance. It’s because he wouldn’t have met Grace, the little nightmare, Lucy otherwise. Moreover, if he wasn’t there, there was a high chance that all three of them and the younger generation of the magician community that the serpentine devils had taken captive would’ve perished! One fact didn’t change; he didn’t feel much from doing a heroic deed. Nonetheless, he was still happy as he managed to foil the plan of the serpentine devil!

Elliot’s words offended John deeply. “Be glad that you didn’t come across the devil in the clothing of an angel who enticed us into this place with sweet words, only to lock us up here for ten whole years out of which seven have already thankfully passed.”

Some moments after entering the ancient settlement, John and Theo had come across an angel who had skin as white as snow, two pure white wings, a sapphire in the middle of her forehead, rosy lips, and seductive eyes that could give others a heart attack with a blink. Who she was, they didn’t know. What they did know was that she baited them into this training ground by telling them that they could become learn ten years’ worth of high-grade knowledge and gain a decade worth of power-ups in merely ten days if they accepted. So, of course, they did. Afterward, though, they realized they had made a deal with the devil and sold their souls. There was a considerable price to pay for the various power-ups.

John’s words left Elliot speechless for a moment.

“Seven years?” Lucy’s eyes widened like saucers.

She had realized that something was wrong when she first saw them. In her mind, they looked too old to be Elliot’s classmates, and after hearing their words, she was confused even further and wondered why they had grown so much in merely seven days. Elliot was thinking about the same thing for a while now.

“Ah, yes, one year here is equal to a day in the real world.”

John made the grand reveal with a dissatisfied voice.

“Wow!” Elliot exclaimed, a happy expression on his face. “Isn’t that great?”

John was sulking for the same reason he felt excited. He did hold the feeling of his friend valuable, but Elliot decided to be honest this once. This was a great training ground. You could train here for decades, and only a month or three would pass back in Xavier. By the time you become overly powerful and return, you wouldn’t be missing out on anything! It was such a great opportunity. Elliot was a little jealous of his friends.

“If that were the case, I wouldn’t have been sulking for years.” John pouted, remembering the miserable days he had to spend locked up in this place.

“What do you mean?” Asked Lucy, whose expression showed the others that she was extremely curious about this place.

John, who wanted to do nothing but talk for three weeks straight, happily answered, “You see, we’re in a time-lapse formation with no way out of it. The lapse ratio between this training facility and the outside world is 396 days to 1, and at first, I also thought it was a great place to train. The queen told us that this formation would continue for ten days of our original world, meaning we would get to experience 3960 days. And we could use that time to pick up a high-grade profession or two. And she also said that after finishing our fundamental studies, we could leave anytime we wanted. And that if we failed to learn anything, we would get kicked out of the organization.

“I was significantly lacking as a magician, so I happily grasped this chance. Three years later, after I finished my studies, I found out that there was no way to get out, not until the formation stop working. Thinking that I would’ve to spend 2772 days with a man that had forgotten how to talk and a bunch of NPCs, I started losing my sanity. I realized that I’d been played! Thankfully, now that you guys are here, I am saved!”

After saying that, he hugged them both.

“No hugs.”

“You’re squeezing my neck.”

“Sit down.”

Theo lifted his blindfold and looked straight at the overly touchy pale vampire. The look in his eyes was as deep as the ocean and even emerald paled in comparison to the color of his eyes. John shivered under his gaze and knew that if he kept on acting out, he would get punished. In silence, he took his hands away from the newly arrived guests and returned to his seat.

Looking at the submissive John, Elliot got reminded of a dog. He felt as if Theo had a dreadful leash on John and that it was not too bad of a thing.

“Theo, how long did it take for you to learn a high-grade profession?” Elliot asked.
