Chapter 182 – School Recruitments (2)

Claire swiftly flipped the textbook, looking for a certain topic. Last night, she fell asleep and completely forgot to do her assignment. Good thing, she still had 10 minutes before her class would start.

"Hi! You are the assassin user, right?" a soft voice came in her side and took a seat on the chair next to her. But Claire did not bother responding or looking in the direction of the voice. She was in a rush and could no longer afford to be distracted.

"Hey, I am talking to you!" the soft voice continued after a minute of not hearing Claire's response.

"What?!" Claire finally looked up and glared at the young girl who was disturbing her.

"I heard from Joey that your squad had not yet decided if you will participate in the regional tournament. I am inviting you to join our squad." the girl replied.

"No, thanks! I need to continue reading," Claire quickly stated and resumed her attention to the textbook. She expected the girl to stopped.

"You can read anytime. But the tournament is rare, and must not be discussed lightly," the girl insisted.

"We will give you the amount of money that is equivalent to our top pro player if you join us. The salary is nice," the girl continued.

"I am doing my assignment. Please do not disturb me," Claire frankly told the girl without removing her eyes from the textbook.

"Then, I will put you on our list? If you agree, I will leave you alone," the girl persisted.

"One million," another voice joined their conversation. But this one was very familiar to Claire. She did not need to look at Sofia to identify her voice.

"Huh?" the girl asked and stared at Sofia awkwardly.

"You want to recruit Claire? Pay her one million and she will agree," Sofia stated.

"Hahaha, Sof, don't scare her. Besides, I already refused," Claire giggled.

"Ohh, you are the squad leader, hehe… I am just inviting your members because there is a rumor that you have not decided yet if you will participate in the regional tournament," the girl quickly explained.

"I don't know. Look at Claire. Can't you see? She is very busy with her study. So, how are we going to decide to join the tournament if we have no time to practice? It's really hard to register with our situation right now," Sofia pretended to think. She tilted her face and looked at the ceiling for a few seconds before she glanced at the girl.

The girl frowned and gave Sofia a suspicious look. "Then, your other members can be recruited, right?" she asked.

"All my members are busy studying. You can invite them. But, if they refuse, do not continue to disturb them. Do you want to invite me?" Sofia answered.

"No. You are also good but our squad only needs an assassin user," the girl responded with a sigh.

"I see. Then, I can't help you," Sofia said.

Claire closed the textbook that she was reading and combed her hair using her fingers. "My class is about to start. Sof, I have to go," she said slipped away without saying a word to the girl.

"My teacher is already here, I have to leave too," Sofia politely said to the girl and she returned to her table. A faculty member was indeed walking in her direction.

The girl opened her mouth to speak but then closed it back and exhaled.

"Did you recruit the assassin user? That player is very good. Make sure to get her to play with us!" a male asked and pulled a chair. He then sat next to her.

"They said that the reason why their squad is undecided to participate is that they are busy with their study. I thought it was just an alibi but look at the third table on my right… that is a faculty member and the squad leader of the Chronos squad," the girl stated.

"I see. Then, I will tell the club manager that there is a great chance that they will not participate. It's also good so that our opponents will not be so tough to compete," the man said and was about to leave.

"Wait! I want to back out too. My grades are failing. And I need to focus on my study," the girl told the man.

"Are you kidding me? Rachel, you cannot back out! You are paid to play for the club," the man answered in annoyance.

"But my grades…" the girl refuted.

"Who cares about the grades? You still have your money after playing the game," the man debated.

"How can you say that? If I fail, then my parents will definitely get angry!" the girl commented.

"Just talk to them and tell them that you will need to play games. This is the life of a pro-player. We must prioritize the club activities than the school activities," the man said.

"They care about their grades. Look at the leader of the Chronos squad, they are the champion of the last tournament but they are not practicing. Instead, the leader is focusing on her school works. And that assassin user was also concentrating on reading earlier," the girl narrated while looking at Sofia's back.

"That is their choice because they have no management. So, they can choose their priorities. As for you and the rest of us, we have to prioritize our gaming skills or else, someone will replace our role, and it's the end of our career," the man said before he finally turned around and left.

On the table of Sofia, the teacher placed three textbooks about leadership in front of Sofia.

"Sorry, I took so much time to find these books. Read them so that you can have many ideas to write in the essay contest," the teacher said.

Sofia took the books. One by one, she examined the title on the front cover and realized that she had read all of it in her past life.

"There is no need to apologize, ma'am. Thank you for giving these resources to me," Sofia said.

"Ahh, good! You actually had a good attitude. I did not make a mistake in selecting a representative for the night class. Please study them and don't pay attention to some nasty words of the other students," the teacher stated.

"Nasty words?" Sofia asked.

"Yes, there are sections in the regular class who looked down on the night class. So, if you hear some of their comments, let it slide and focus on developing your writing skills." the teacher replied.

"Ma'am, I know what to do. Thank you for your warning," Sofia said.

"That's good! Then, start reading the books. I am here if there is something that is confusing to you," the teacher said and waited for Sofia to open them.

"Ma'am, why do you teach the night class?" Sofia suddenly asked.

"Ha? AHH, t-this is a personal choice. No one wanted to teach the night class so I offered to handle it. Anyway, I am just a part-timer and the schedule is also convenient," her teacher responded easily.

"What other contest are we participating in the academic competition?" Sofia probed again.

"Only this essay contest. No one is willing to participate in the other contest," the teacher softly informed her.

"Put my name in all of it the contest. Ma'am, you don't know this but, I have been working hard to study and improve my skills," Sofia offered.

"Hehe, it's okay. I cannot put you in the other contests. Otherwise, I will give you a burden rather than inspiration to compete," the teacher answered while shaking her head.

"If there are no participants in other contests, aren't the school staff going to question your competency to handle your students. You might be a part-timer in this school, but you got to prove your ability to your colleagues," Sofia calmly said.

"Even this… you actually understand. You are a smart student," the teacher praised her.

"Yes, I can roughly guess. So, there is no need for you to hold back. Naturally, I won't be burdened by that arrangement since it's me who offered to participate in other contests," Sofia told her.

But the teacher shook her head several times. "As long as you do your best in the essay contest, I am already satisfied with it," she said.

Sofia started reading the book that the teacher gave to her. She did not bother to convince the teacher to put her name on the other events.

"How about you, Miss Sofia? Why do you choose to study in night class?" the teacher curiously asked.

"It's because I normally play until dawn. So, the regular schedule is not suitable for me. I'm still asleep in the morning," Sofia stated.

"You play? Oh! That online games! I see. Now I understand. There is an upcoming tournament for that game, right? Are you going to participate?" the teacher mumbled and examined the overall appearance of Sofia.

"Well, it always depends on the availability, ma'am.. There is this essay contest that I have to make preparation for first," Sofia chuckled.
