Chapter 185 - Predicament Of The Night Class Students
Chapter 185 – Predicament Of The Night Class Students
Later that afternoon, Sofia went to the classroom of the night class section earlier than usual. She did not meet any of her team nor exchange chats with them anymore.
When she arrived at the classroom, there were two female students who were already there. Based on the sitting arrangement, she could tell that these two were close friends.
The two classmates also shared the same hairstyle. They braid a portion of their hair and pulled them around like a princess style.
"Hi! You two are early," Sofia stated and stepped inside the classroom.
The two classmates stared at her for a bit feeling a little strange and startled by her greetings. They looked at each other in questioning eyes before shifting their gaze in Sofia's direction.
It was because the young lady never connected with her classmates.. And the original owner of her body was also not concerned with school affairs. They felt awkward and surprised that Sofia was talking with them.
But after a while, the two classmates recovered and shared casual smiles and exchange 'hellos'. Sofia smiled back and waved her hand. Then she walked towards her seat and place her bag on the desk.
As she quietly sat, she also took a moment to look around and just observe the two classmates. They already resumed their conversation and completely ignored her.
'Should I invited them to participate in the academic contest?' A question suddenly crossed her mind while taking her phone and checking the messages.
She noticed a message from the squad leader of FAB_Gamers. It was once the team that the Chronos squad had once practiced before joining the district tournament. She had always a good impression with the group.
Sofia tapped the message and check its content.
FAB_Gamers_WINS: Did you sign up for the regional tournament?
She did not need to hide her plans to this team. Sofia directly hit the reply and started typing a response.
"We received a direct invite from the organizer of the tournament. We will play."
To receive a direct invitation of the regional tournament means the squad won't need to join the elimination round of the tournament. There was no need for her squad to really sign-up. The Chronos squad will automatically join the competition if they gave their acceptance to the organizers before the elimination round starts.
FAB_Gamers_WINS: Lucky us! My squad also has direct invite from the organizers of the regional tournament!
Sofia smiled and completely understood the situation. It was normal for the FAB_Gamers to have a direct invite but it was quite unusual for the Chronos squad. Newly formed team usually joined elimination rounds and go to the series of game matches before they can join the main competition.
But, even though the Chronos squad was just a new team, because of their popularity in social media, they were treated the same as those squad who had a background in the gaming community already. It was a great advantage for Sofia to maximize her team to practice with her team.
Moments passed and Sofia switched to check all her messages. But upon seeing the number of other unread messages that were flooding in her inbox, she decided to keep the phone back inside her bag.
Sofia sighed and glanced at the two classmates again. She had other goals right now. She contemplated whether to interrupt them.
But then, she remembered the remarks of the teacher earlier about their section, it sparks her determination to try and convince them to participate.
"Fellow classmates, may I invite you to join the academic contest with me? I represent our section for the essay, you can choose the other literary contest," Sofia softly spoke and clasped her hands together. She then stood on her chair and walked near them.
"Academic contest? Why should I bother joining? We have a day job that is more important than that!"
"Nevermind those trivial contests, it's a waste of time. I'd rather work and get enough salary."
The two classmates share the same contempt after hearing Sofia's invitation. And it would seem that they are employees of the same company.
Sofia pursed her lips and blinked. She then took a seat on the empty chair next to the two.
At the Seventh District University, most students go to school and look forward to gaining friends. They are pampered by their parents to attend school for the sake of their future. Participating in school activities as part of their responsibility was given.
However, there were also another group of students who just look forward to getting their school papers and go on with their life. These students were mostly exposed to the real world before they decided to attend school. Their responsibility is divided between working and studying.
In this case, Sofia instantly understood that the two classmates in front of her belonged to the second group. The kind of students who pursue to study using their own means. They work to get money and pay using their own pockets.
"You are a gamer so you have lots of free time to attend the school activities. But we work the whole day and study at night. So we don't really care about school contests. As long as our attendance is perfect during our class, we can graduate."
"That's right! Sofia, good luck with the contest. Do your best but we won't join that!"
Priorities. Sofia best knew the essence of setting priority. In life, each person had their own path to choose. But for Sofia, the path of being supported by her parents or being an independent student, she had taken booth.
"I see. It's just that it's my first time participating contest in school. So, it is better if I have another representative in our night class section," Sofia said hoping to gain a sliver of sympathy from the two. She cannot reason with the two about what they must do for she also understood their predicament. But, she felt that she can try to use alliance as a means to convince them.
Truth be told, her instinct was right. The two classmates gave her a sympathetic look and realized that it was indeed hard if only one of their classmates would be left to represent their section.
"Eh, Sofia, let's try to ask the others if they want to participate, okay? Don't be sad… maybe they will have time to join."
"Yes, hehe. I will help you ask the other classmates for them to represent our section."
Sofia gave the two a friendly smile and nodded her head. At first, it was just her. But now, she successfully managed to pull the two classmates on her side.
Soon after, the other students arrive and the campaign of the three students began. Sofia had also returned to her assigned seats and left the two to do their own convincing.
"Guys, listen! We need a representative of our section to join the academic contest. I've checked the contest just now and there are poetry, impromptu speech, and extemporaneous speech. We must have a representative of these three contests," the female student who offered Sofia help loudly announced to the entire class. Since their teacher had not yet arrived, she took the opportunity to gather everyone's attention by directly telling them about it.
"Why are we joining school contests now that we are in junior high? Those faculty members do not really care if the night class will join or not," one of the male students refuted.
"So what if they don't care? Personally, they are calling us a dumb section? I think I will join that impromptu and see if they can come up with a good topic to discuss! Hmmph!" A lady suddenly spoke while slamming her hand on the desk, causing everyone to look at her angry face.
"Ohh Kristelle, don't be mad! Who cares about these opinions? Even my salary is bigger than what they are getting!" another student boasted.
"HAHA, that's right! Well, I will ask the teacher to join the impromptu contest. We should prove to them that we are not someone that they should look down on!" the lady called Kristelle stated.
Sofia did not know what to say. 'So, it was not just me who had heard the teacher's opinions about our section,' she secretly thought while observing the other students exchange of opinions.
"Dumb huh? Hmmph, then let's see who their students that we are being compared of! I will get that extemporaneous speech contest," a male student presented. He just arrived and had not yet stepped inside when he heard the conversation outside the door.
"Nice! Then, the poetry, who is good in poetry?" the first female student who seemed to began the campaign to the majority raised her hand to see if there would be willing to participate. But no one responded to her call.
"Is there a mechanics to see the poetry contest?" another female suddenly inquired after a few seconds of silence.
"There is. Go to the bulletin board on the entrance gate," the first female student replied.
"Then, I will see if I can after checking the mechanics. Poetry is not just writing ideas, it is conversing the heartfelt feelings through deep words."
"Ohh, wow! Just be listening to you right now, I can feel that you are already qualified to win the poetry!" the first female giggled. and clapped her hand.
She then went to the side of Sofia and sat on the chair next to her.
"Good job! You've convinced them! Hehe," Sofia gave her a thumbs up.
"See? You are no longer alone to represent our section! Then, I hope you win and crushed those—" the female suddenly paused and unable to directly call out the names."—those who underestimated us. Do it. Just like how you won the championship of our online district tournament," she finished and gave Sofia a tap on the shoulder.
