Chapter 47 - Gossiping Colleague
Chapter 47 – Gossiping Colleague
The live broadcast had also started and the shift of the online audience from following the romantic couples dating into the district's Esport competition was too drastic. The views started from 10, 500 and eventually reached to more than a hundred thousands! The transition of views were beyond the expectation of both the staffs and important guest of the game. They were overjoyed with the result.
Time flies so quickly as everyone in the tournament was having fun watching the game. The audience and even the staff were too immersed in the match as players displayed their exquisite strategies and teamwork of their gameplays.
None of them had even noticed that the displayed clock on the gym pointed almost at noon.
The sound of the commentator on the speakers had also changed. Their way of delivering their narration became faster than how they spoke in the earlier matches. Their tempo was almost the same as the seconds of the game timer tickled. It was as if the words were garbled as they spoke.
In the audience area, Jing Jing also found herself enjoying the competition. She often clapped her hands when a kill happened. Though she was a neutral spectator of the competition, the match was still entertaining. Whichever side took a score, she would be happy and cheer for them.
"Watching this competition is not bad at all. No wonder many people are coming here instead of going to fancy places for a date. Competitive Esports had been fully evolved in this district." she muttered softly while her eyes were busy observing the people around her.
Her mobile phone suddenly lit up as another notification flashed for the incoming call. She glanced at the caller and hastily answered the call with no regard of formality at all.
"Yes, what's up?" Jing Jing's voice was loud and not her usual tone.
The other person who called quickly noticed the change of her voice, "Jing Jing, it's me, Rica! Why are you so loud? I have an important thing to tell you!"
"Ohh, I am not on duty. Boss Wang assigned me to get a scope on the district Esport tournament but our rival company had beat my chance. They already established an exclusive contract with the organizers of the event. So, I decided to just watch the online game tournament. I am inside the public gymnasium." Jing Jing told the other person.
She assumed that Rica would want to discuss about their job or perhaps a gossip of some celebrity that the girl was following. Thus, she directly explained her situation to her.
"You are in the public gym? Well, I called not because of work. I am also not on duty. This news that I am about to tell you is more relevant than our line of work!" Rica sounded on the other line.
"Relevant than our work? Just speak directly! What is the important matter that you want to tell me that you called at my personal number?" Jing Jing asked.
"Listen, I am having a date with Maxwell in the Couples Café opposite the gymnasium of our district. Guess what I saw?!" a hurried yet low volume voice directly spoke on the other line.
Despite the low volume of Rica's voice on the other line, Jing Jing could sense that she was frantic about whatever she had seen.
'What did this girl saw?' she asked in her mind. Out of a sudden, a realization came upon Jing Jing after she processed the place that Rica mentioned…
Couples Café opposite the gymnasium!
"Aiiyaa, Rica I can totally guess that you have seen that bastard. That man was a wolf in sheep's clothing! He betrayed me!" Jing Jing rolled her eyes.
She waited for Rica to speak, but she heard a prolonged dead air. "Wait for a while Jing Jing," Rica muttered and the line became silent once more.
The person on the other line was her close colleague who was aware of her relationship with Drake. It was the only person that knew her personal affairs. After the lady mentioned her location, Jing Jing quickly understood the situation that her colleague wanted to report to her.
Rica must have seen Drake and the female staff of their rival company together in the cafe!
"So I was saying, can you guess what I have seen here?" Rica once again asked her.
"Damn, I already answered that question. I don't need to guess. It was that bastard, right?" Jing Jing pouted her lips. Rica must have not listened to her earlier since the lady repeated her question to her.
"AH, Jing Jing!!! Did you just say b-bastard? Y-you know??!" her colleague paused with a tone of disbelief before she continued, "I am talking about your boyfriend! Did this man give you an excuse of going to a meeting today or something? You did not go out together? Listen, he is cozily having a wine with a mistress sitting beside him!" Rica stressed out her tone. From the noise of running water in her background, Jing Jing could make out that the lady probably went to the comfort room just to report what she had seen.
Jing Jing clicked her tongue and chuckled. "Your eyes are so clear that you can spot gossips easily! This friend of yours is impressed with this ability! Anyway, that bastard and I had a breakup earlier today." Jing Jing stated.
"OH MYYY!!! You must tell me more! I will go to the gymnasium after I finished my milktea. Maxwell would not mind. I'll tag him along." Rica said.
"You are willing to ruin your date just to gossip about my love life?" Jing Jing playfully commented.
"AHAHA, see you later." Rica only laughed at her before their conversation ended.
Jing Jing shook her head and looked at the people around her. Few groups were exchanging conversation but the majority of the audience was still immersed in what was displayed on the large screen.
She decided to change a seat and picked the most corner seat near the computer operator's room. Her location could only see the screen and not the participants playing area. It was slightly inconvenient but, it would be easier for her to tell Rica her exact location.
Jing Jing continued to watch and cheered at random players that she could relate to the character role that they were using.
Watching the game somehow made her forget about everything that she had been through since that morning.
By noontime, the tournament took an hour of a break to eat. Jing Jing remained in her seat and did not join the crowd going towards the exit.
The audiences dispersed from the bleachers while talking about the game scenes of different squads. Some also expressed how they could not wait for the last battle of the second elimination round.
"The organizers had really calculated the timing to drag this… well, whatever. Now, the last battle would be dragged after the lunch break. lol!" the tourist who had protested before the second elimination round started kept picking at the organizers of the event.
As for the other audience who heard the tourist, they did not bother responding to him.
"Ahh, I will just join this betting pool." the tourist mumbled while his fingers scrolled down the official betting site that the game organizers also arranged for the patrons of the game to predict the outcome of the tournament.
