Chapter 652 Empyrean Talons (Part 13): Yet Another Failure
…β¦
In the secret passage under the capital city of the Beast Glade Kingdom, the battle between Cloe’s Valkyrie Angel and Beelzebub’s Demonic Knight was getting more intense than ever. They were even starting to affect the battle between Chaotic Luck and the Sweepers of the Pandemonium Troupe.
And due to the large-scale attacks that the two summons were throwing, most of the Chaotic Luck’s undeads got hit in the crossfire which affected his battle capabilities. Even the battle formation that he painfully set up started to crumble.
Naturally, the Sweepers would not miss such a perfect opportunity to strike. The moment they saw a gap in Chaotic Luck’s defenses, they immediately launched a coordinated attack.
Seeing that, Chaotic Luck had no choice but to repeatedly retreat to create more distance between him and his opponents while also trying his best to rebuild his defenses.
Unfortunately, the Sweepers were not going to let that happen now that they’ve gotten the perfect chance to eliminate their target. They were already upset that they were having some problem at eliminating a target who was not even an official ranker.
Chaotic Luck might be skilled and managed to become a Titled Maverick Ranker, but they were the Sweepers! Some of the most famous players of the game were quite scared of them since they already assassinated quite a lot of Godlike Players much less some Titled Rankers.
The Peak Gods like the Dragon God and War God might be an exception since taking down such powerful players required them to have a full unit of their best Sweepers. But they could at least give those kinds of players some trouble when facing them.
“Who the hell is this guy? Why can’t we eliminate him already?” said one of the Sweepers unconsciously as they kept on chasing Chaotic Luck.
Little did they know, Chaotic Luck was only able to fight them like this was due to all of the preparations that he did before the battle. Shin asked him earlier to set up all of the things that could help during the fights. And just like what was instructed to him, he pre-summoned as many blazing undeads as possible and hid all of them underground.
That was the reason why he didn’t have to waste some time on summoning his blazing undeads when fighting. And due to that, he seemed to have an inexhaustible number of undeads when fighting the notorious Sweepers.
Unfortunately, the battle between Cloe and Beelzebub affected his battle prowess a little too much.
“Fortunately, I listened to Big Bro and prepared a trump card beforehand,” muttered Chaotic Luck to himself as he closely watched the movements of the Sweepers that were chasing after him.
He had a very calm look despite being pursued by such a dangerous assassin. And that very expression on his face made the leading Sweeper feel a little anxious.
But before he could even warn the others, Chaotic Luck suddenly stopped his retreat and stood waiting for the opposing side to come a little closer.
Naturally, the Sweepers would get confused due to his sudden actions. And because of that, they couldn’t react in time when Chaotic Luck suddenly made his move.
Bang!
He slammed the bottom of his staff on the ground which made the floor of the corridor tremble. And not long after it, a trio of giant undeads with blazing heads suddenly shot up from the ground and grabbed some of the Sweepers right after emerging.
Then the Sweepers that were caught were immediately slammed on the ground before being stepped on by those giant blazing undeads.
Seeing that, the other Sweepers were suddenly taken aback and caught in a difficult dilemma where they needed to choose between saving their colleagues or continuing pursuing Chaotic Luck who was already within their reach.
But due to that brief moment of hesitation, there was a slight gap with their movements which Chaotic Luck quickly took advantage of. For someone who was always being bullied by Peak Gods like Arthur and Leonard during their training sessions, how could he miss such a perfect opportunity to strike?
This time, he didn’t summon any more undeads but conjured a pair of blazing spheres on each of his sides instead. And before his opponents could even react, he quickly pointed at the Sweepers and sent the blazing spheres to their direction.
Swoosh!
“Watch out!” shouted one of the Sweepers to their leader the moment he saw the incoming blazing spheres.
Fortunately, their leader was fast enough to react and quickly dodged. But not long after he avoided the blazing spheres, he was immediately greeted by blazing shackles that were following closely behind those spheres.
Chaotic Luck used his previous attack as cover and threw an immobilizing spell. And since he was fighting these Sweepers as a Necromancer earlier, they forgot that he was also well versed in terms of magic spells.
Seeing that even their unit leader was also caught, the Sweepers were now caught with another dilemma where they needed to choose which they were going to save first; their leader or their other colleagues.
But the answer that their leader had sent them was quite unexpected for the rest of the Sweepers. β “Eliminate the target!” β
The group already learned their lessons earlier so didn’t even think twice when they read the message. They immediately scattered and went straight to Chaotic Luck in a very aggressive manner.
On the other hand, the so-called target seemed to have a very calm expression on his face despite being cornered from all sides. In fact, his face seemed to even have a satisfied grin instead of showing signs of panic.
Seeing the expression on his face, the Sweepers couldn’t help but feel that there was something odd going on. But since they couldn’t tell exactly what it was, they could only advance in caution and keep their senses sharp.
Unfortunately, they fall into yet another trap. Since they were fully occupied with Chaotic Luck, they already forgot who was the person that had the greatest awareness within the place.
As a priest herself, Cloe was used to keeping tabs on what was happening on the entire battlefield. And the moment she noticed that all of the Sweepers were too focused on Chaotic Luck, she immediately took that opportunity to strike.
While she was deciding how she was going to attack, her lips suddenly curved into a smile as she came up with a decision. She decided to ditch her current opponent and commanded the Valkyrie Angel to help Chaotic Luck instead.
Everyone was suddenly taken aback by her decision and immediately became confused. The Sweepers were caught off-guard which was why they got instantly eliminated before they could even react.
On the other hand, Beelzebub was a little different. He was really surprised by Cloe’s actions but that didn’t mean that he would lose his purpose in this battle. In fact, he even became enraged when he saw that she ordered her Valkyrie Angle to disengaged with his Demonic Knight and attack the Sweepers accompanying him instead.
“How dare you!?” shouted Beelzebub as he ordered the Demonic Knight to charge at her.
His response was pretty fast which was why it was pretty much impossible for Cloe to dodge, especially when the Demonic Knight was almost upon her. But before its weapon could even reach her, a werewolf suddenly came out of nowhere and flew straight to the Demonic Knight, knocking it down from its mount.
At the same time, Shin suddenly appeared beside Beelzebub as if he was a ghost while also swinging his sabers at the same time.
Swoosh!
Unfortunately, he failed to cut his target’s head as Beelzebub was quite alert and fast to react.
Whoosh!
Then Shin quickly teleported himself on Cloe’s side before scolding her. “Are you out of your mind? Why did you do that?”
“Tee-hee! Because I know that you are going to save me. I just want to make it a little dramatic,” said Cloe while giggling. ππ²ππ§πΌπ―ππ₯οΌππ¨πΊ
Hearing that, the corner of Shin’s mouth suddenly twitched before asking. “Are you filming a movie or something to pull a stunt like that? And what are you going to do if I am not fast enough?”
“I just know that you will not betray my expectations,” said Cloe with an innocent smile while adding mischievously. “And I believe that our feelings with each other will prevail.”
Cough! Cough!
Shin couldn’t help but turn his head at her when he heard those words. ‘This girl is really getting bolder as more time goes by. It seems like I can’t afford to let my guard down when she is around.’
After that, he quickly turned his attention back to Beelzebub and stepped forward. “This guy seems to be as strong as that ‘Mammon-guy’ that we encounter in the Sky Island. Is he also from the Pandemonium Troupe?”
“Yep! And He seems to be one of the so-called ‘Troupe Members’ too. The Greed Devil Beelzebub,” answered Cloe as she happily took a step back and let Shin take over.
On the other hand, the man who was the topic of their conversation was currently looking at Shin with a heavy expression on his face before cursing. “D*mn it! So, those people from the Corrupted Cult still failed despite everything that I prepared.”
Then he turned his head and glanced at the group of Sweepers that he brought and saw that they were being slaughtered by the Valkyrie Angel and the giant blazing undeads one after another.
“Tsk! I guess this mission is another failure,” he muttered with a cursing tone before turning his attention back to Shin and Cloe. “You are more capable than what I expected. To think that you are able to read all of my moves this time, quite remarkable indeed.”
Hearing that, Shin chuckled a little before replying with a sarcastic tone. “Heh! Well, I got fooled by you a couple of times already, so I can’t afford to overlook anything this time.”
“What’s more, I have better pieces right now, so it will be embarrassing if I still lose with all of the odds in my favor,” he added smirkingly.
‘Being a Titled Official Ranker and a Titled Maverick Ranker at the same time? I guess I really need to support Mammon on putting this guy on our Top List when I get back,’ thought Beelzebub as he took out a special scroll from his inventory.
Then he quickly crushed the special teleportation scroll while saying to Shin. “I’m looking forward to our next battle when we meet each other, so don’t you dare lose against the other Devils since it will get boring.”
Shin and Cloe watched him transform into a silver light that pierced through the ceiling of the corridor before looking at each other.
“I guess that was it. Let’s go regroup with the others and wrap this up,” said Shin as he shrugged his shoulders.
Hearing that, Cloe quickly clung to his arm and asked. “How about we ditch them and go for a stroll together?”
Shin rolled his eyes at her and replied. “We are doing your and Leo’s quests, remember?”
Then they walked towards the exit side by side, seemingly forgetting about Chaotic Luck who was currently clearing the battlefield.
“Yeah. I should not interrupt them if I want Big Sis to get mad at me,” said Chaotic Luck with a pained heart while picking up the loot on the ground one by one.
