Child of Destiny

Chapter 657 Measuring Shin’s Potential (Part 1)

Swoosh!

Bang!

Shin was thrown by Shiella in their backyard, burying him in the ground with a pile of rocks.

Ta-ta!

Then Shiella landed gently on the ground and stood a few meters away from the spot where Shin was buried. She rolled her wrists a little before saying to the latter. “You better take me seriously if you don’t want to get beaten up too badly, you little rascal.”

On the other hand, Shin struggled to pull himself out from the ground and huge debris that were burying him.

Cough! Cough!

But despite being thrown like that, Shin seemed to be fine and not affected at all. He just stood up calmly and shook off the dust that was on his clothes.

“Hoh~! It looks like you’ve become a little tougher, huh?” said Shiella smirkingly before releasing her Natural Force and covering her entire body with it.

Seeing that multicolored flame that was surrounding Shiella, Shin couldn’t help but start cursing to himself before taking a battle stance while also releasing a vast amount of Mental Energy. ‘Of all the top prodigies that I need to face, why do I have to deal with Big Sis right off the bat?’

Shin and Shiella were both fully ready for the battle, but before they could even make their respective moves, David suddenly appeared out of nowhere while wearing a training suit. “Hey, hey! You are already starting your challenge? Why didn’t you inform me first? I told you that I will be the umpire.”

Then he suddenly made a snap with his fingers which created a huge barrier that enfolded the whole backyard before continuing. “Okay! Now, the two of you can fight to your heart’s content without worrying about your surroundings.”

Shiella was quite confused with what David had said but she quickly shook those thoughts off before turning her attention back to Shin. For her, teaching Shin a ‘little’ lesson was more important than anything else.

But at the same time, Shiella seemed to also feel more annoyed when she heard something about Shin challenging her. It really made her mood worse for some unknown reason.

In the meantime, Shin couldn’t help but curse David when he heard the latter’s words before bracing himself for the upcoming storm.

Then Shiella suddenly appeared right in front of Shin and threw a powerful punch at him while covering her fist with her Natural Force.

“Tsk! She is way faster than before!” cursed Shin the moment he saw Shiella’s fist magnifying right in front of his eyes.

Shiella’s movements were too fast for Shin to set up a barrier to block the attack. So, he could only gather his Mental Energy on both of his arms before crossing them in front of him.

Bang!

But even if he was able to negate the Natural Force that covered Shiella’s fist with the help of his Mental Energy, he still failed to fully nullify the force behind that punch. And because of that, she was sent flying straight to the barrier that David had set up.

Shin flipped multiple times in the air to neutralize the force that he received from the impact before stepping on the barrier and sending all of the residual force to it.

Tremble!

The barrier created a series of humming sounds as Shin transferred the residual force through his feet.

Then Shin quickly kicked the barrier and propelled himself back at Shiella who was currently waiting to throw another punch at him.

Seeing that, Shin formed a series of hand seals during his flight while also activating multiple Mentalism Runes at the same time. And when those runes fused with his body, all of his physical capabilities suddenly improved while also increasing his battle prowess at the same time.

“Hoh~! This is becoming more and more interesting!” said Shiella as her eyes suddenly turned bright after seeing Shin’s sudden transformation.

But quickly after that, the expression on her face became a little skeptical as she said with a mocking tone. “But aren’t you looking down on me a little too much for not using your full potential? I couldn’t help but feel offended!”

Bang!

Then their fist collided with each other and created a powerful shockwave that shook the entire barrier.

Shin was forced to take a couple of steps backward to stabilize his footing before saying to Shiella. “It is not like I am looking down on you, Big Sis. It’s just I really can’t wield my Mentalism and Martial-Arts simultaneously anymore when I am in this kind of battle.”

“Is that so? Then how are you going to defeat me if that is the case?” asked Shiella as she threw a series of punches at Shin.

‘Who said that I am planning to beat you when I am trying my best to survive’ thought Shin to himself before quickly moving his arms and deflecting each of the attacks with the back of his hands. “Don’t worry, Big Sis. I am really much stronger than how I used to be.”

“I can at least be a good sparring partner for you as long as you don’t use your Bloodline Powers,” he added as he lowered his center of gravity and blocked a powerful kick with both of his arms.

Then the two of them exchanged a few more blows before mixing their attacks with some of their respective Martial-Art Skills and Mentalism Techniques.

In the meantime, David was watching the battle with an amused look on his face before saying to the person standing beside him. “What do you think? Is he good enough to become the next Junior Monster in line?”

Jerimiah, who was paying close attention to the fight, pursed his lips for a moment before nodding his head. “His Mentalism alone is already good. In fact, it is good enough to compete among those conceited individuals from the Central Academy.”

He then took a brief pause and turned to David before quickly adding. “But if it is true that he is a Dual Practitioner, then he is worthy enough to bear the title of Junior Monster of the Soaring Continent in the future.”

While they were converging with each other, Vincent suddenly appeared behind them and chimed in all of a sudden. “I was wondering why the two of you suddenly disappeared in the middle of sparring, so this is the reason why both of you ran off, huh?”

After that, he stood on Jerimiah’s other side before giving his own comment. “From what I’ve heard, Shin is also a decent Mentalism Swordsman. I wonder how proficient is he with it.”

Hearing that, David suddenly pursed his lips before saying. “I’ve seen quite a lot of True Swordsmen and Mentalism Swordsmen during my travels. He may not be on the same level as those Sword Geniuses or Saber Demons, but his sword skills are at least more than enough to exchange some insights with them.”

“Speaking of those geniuses? That guy Elijah Knight is neither a Sword Genius nor a Saber Demon but his skills are no joke either. Do you think he is one of those so-called rare talents in terms of sword discipline?” asked Jerimiah as he recalled his exchanges with Elijah earlier.

Vincent thought for a brief moment before shaking his head. “I don’t know. He keeps saying that he is not a genius or anything. But from what I can see, he really looks like one.”

On the other hand, David seemed to fall into deep thought before giving his answer. “I am also not sure. But if I compare him with the real monsters in the younger generation of the sword discipline, then he is really not even close to those two freaks that I’ve encountered before.”

“Real monsters in the path of the sword?” repeated Jerimiah while knitting his eyebrows. Then he looked at David before asking with full curiosity. “Who are they? I am really curious how talented they are for you to evaluate them that high.”

Even Vincent was also unable to help his curiosity and nodded his head while leaning his head forward to look at David.

Seeing that, David couldn’t help but laugh before satisfying their curiosity. “You two are quite familiar with the first one since he is quite famous in the younger generation. And who else could it be but Eugene White’s one and only son.”

Hearing that, the two couldn’t help but nod their heads as they felt a little stupid for not figuring out such an obvious answer.

But immediately after that, Jerimiah suddenly turned his head at David once again before quickly asking. “Then what about the other one? Who is the other monster?”

Sigh~!

David suddenly breathed a heavy air when he heard that question as he couldn’t help but have some unpleasant flashbacks inside his head. Then he wore a bitter smile before answering. “Well, it is just some crazy girl who also trained under my master’s tutelage.”

‘And somehow managed to completely inherit all of her Mentalism Techniques and fully adapted her fighting style,’ he added inside his head while looking at Shin with meaningful eyes.
