Child of Destiny

Chapter 664 The Research Department (Part 2)

……

Shin followed Dominic towards the rundown building while surveying the surroundings. And the more he looked at the place the more he became suspicious if he really was in the right place.

“This place looks like an abandoned building where gang members gathered, especially in a ghost town,” muttered Shin as he saw how ruined the interior of the rundown building.

“Senior, please don’t take any offense to what I am about to say. But are you sure that this is one of the facilities of our school?” asked Shin with a doubtful tone.

Hearing that, Dominic couldn’t help but laugh out loud before saying. “I know what you are thinking. But rest assured! I guarantee you that you are in the right place.”

“But why do I feel that I got conned by the facilities that you guys showed when I was filling up my forms online?” asked Shin as he raised his eyebrows.

Dominic suddenly froze when he heard those words before saying. “Come on, little brother. You are already admitted to the academy and also a new member of our department! There is no backing down now!”

“But the first semester hasn’t started yet, so I think I can still make some last-minute changes. Can’t I?” refuted Shin as he put up a face as if he was really considering his decision to come here.

Seeing that Shin seemed to be having second thoughts, Dominic suddenly started panicking and quickly turned to Shin. “Wait a minute, little brother! Let’s calm down for a moment, alright?”

“I know that our place looks a little shabby, but I assure you that you will be able to grow your strength here better than any other places within the academy,” he added as he tried to persuade Shin.

Shin was about to say something to refute those words but before he couldn’t open his mouth, he suddenly felt someone hug him from behind which made his entire body suddenly freeze.

Shin could tell that the person that was embracing him was a woman given that she was pressing her soft and voluptuous chest on his back.

Then that person rested her chin on Shin’s shoulder before saying. “Who is this cutie over here? Is he our new recruit?”

Shin tried to get away from her arms but that woman was faster than him and quickly tightened her embrace to prevent him from getting away. After that, she slightly turned her face to his ears before whispering with a seductive tone. “Why are you in such a hurry? Don’t you want to play with this big sister?”

On the sideline, Dominic released his sigh of relief when he saw that the woman managed to ‘calm’ Shin down. And before the latter could even recover his composure, the former quickly introduced that girl who was currently hugging Shin. “This is Sister Selena, a third-year college student just like me.” 𝙗𝒆𝙙𝒏𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡.𝙣𝙚𝒕

In the meantime, Shin suddenly felt that his body was suddenly sucked by a vacuum as he suddenly disappeared from Selena’s arms and reappeared a few meters away from her where a man in rectangular glasses was standing.

“How many times do I have to tell you not to scare our new recruits, Selena?” said the guy in glasses at the woman who was hugging Shin earlier.

“What are you talking about? I am more like encouraging them to join than scaring them,” refuted the voluptuous woman while pouting her lips.

Bang!

Then the wall Shin’s other side suddenly exploded as the bulky man earlier suddenly emerged from it. “We are still not done, Benedict! I still have a few new moves that I haven’t showered yet!”

The man in glasses who was standing right beside Shin cast a barrier around them before looking at the bulky man while saying in a casual manner. “You already lost, Rock. And a defeat is a defeat, so don’t be a loser and accept your defeat like a true warrior.”

The bulky guy, who seemed to be called Rock, suddenly smirked when he heard those words before saying. “That is where you are wrong, Benedict. A true warrior never backs down in a fight, much less admits defeat.”

Not long after, a guy with a blanket wrapped around his body suddenly walked out from the hole that Rock had created before saying to the others. “Wasn’t the meeting in the conference hall? Why are you guys all here?”

“You are still sleeping here, Mahon? Aren’t you supposedly staying in the dorm?” said Benedict with a deep frown.

Then a short girl with glasses and bub cut hair suddenly stuck her head out from behind that guy with the blanket before saying. “Hey, Rock! You break another wall! Professor Henry will scold us again!”

“Ah! I’m sorry about that, Senior Dayna. I just got carried away a little too much earlier. I will make sure that it will not happen again later,” said the two-meter tall and bulky guy with a stiff smile to the little girl behind Mahon.

In the meantime, Shin couldn’t help but look at everyone with a weird look on his face as he didn’t know how to react to their current situation. Especially with that strange scene right in front of him.

Moreover, he was also sensing different kinds of threats coming from each member of the Research Department in front of him. The dangerous feeling that he was getting from each of them was as high as the threat level that was coming from Shiella and David. Or it was the same as Jerimiah and Vincent at the very least.

At the same time, Shin also noticed that each of them seemed to major in a unique discipline. But instead of pure Martial-Arts and Mentalism, the disciplines that they were practicing were either the most uncommon ones or the arts that seemed to have already been lost a long time ago.

‘Even if the entire building is practically in ruins, these people really looked like young experts on their own. Each one of them is really way too strong,’ thought Shin to himself as he had a closer look at each of them.

***********

In the meantime, a huge ferry just happened to dock on the port of the Corner Stone City and disembarking its passengers. And among the people who were leaving the ship, there was a particular group who seemed to be quite suspicious due to the strange attire that they were currently wearing.

These people were all wearing a black trench coat and deerstalker hat, making them stand out in the crowd.

“Souring Continent, so this is the country that is known to have the greatest military force, huh?” said the man leading the group as he surveyed his gaze in the entire port.

“Not a bad atmosphere for our first time arriving here,” he added while nodding his head.

Then one of the people standing behind him suddenly walked forward and whispered to him. “Captain, we need to get moving now before the army notices us.”

“Don’t worry, Julius. We are in a perfect disguise, no one will suspect us,” said the captain with full confidence.

The man named Julius couldn’t help but smile bitterly as he was clearly aware that what their captain had said was nothing but a complete bullsh*t.

“Alright, you guys can spread out now and look for the little miss that we are looking for,” said the captain while gesturing to them with his hand.

Unfortunately for them, they were immediately surrounded by the military forces that were under the Springfield Family before they could even make their move.

“Not so fast, Captain Victor. Not until you state your business here,” said Nathan as he walked forward from behind his subordinates.

Seeing Nathan, the captain unexpectedly smiled at him before saying. “Look who is here! Isn’t this the famed Dragon King of the Soaring Continent? What an honor to be graced with your presence.”

Nathan couldn’t help but frown his brows when saw Captain Victor acting calm despite being surrounded from all sides.

‘What is this guy trying to pull?’ he thought to himself as he squinted his eyes while looking at the other side.

When Captain Victor saw the expression that Nathan was currently making, he couldn’t help but smile in satisfaction before saying. “There is no need to be too tense, old friend. We are just here to look around and relax. We are currently on our vacation, you know?”

“Heh!”

Naturally, Nathan was not going to buy such a stupid excuse. He looked at the captain with a skeptical face before asking with a sarcastic tone. “Is that so? Then how about you let me give you some escorts for your tour? Or maybe at least some guides that will lead you?”

Hearing that, Captain Victor waved his hand and quickly said. “Thank you for the offer but I have to decline it since we have already ‘commissioned’ our own escorts and tour guides.”

Nathan suddenly came into a realization when he heard those words and quickly turned his head to the side, looking at the distance. In that direction, he could see a group of people who were wearing military clothes that were slightly different from the ones that his group had.

Then the expression on Nathan’s face immediately became dark when he saw that group while muttering with a hoarse voice. “So, in the end, we are still a step too late.”

After that, he turned his head back to Captain Victor who was currently looking back at him with a smug face, before thinking. ‘So, there is indeed a traitor in our circle.’
