Chapter 142 - Brewing Storm
Chapter 142 – Brewing Storm
The messenger walked up to a large tent that was set up in the centre area of the army camp for the soldiers to eat and left his subordinates stay there for now as he made his way towards the place where the commander of the Azure Sky Kingdoms army was located.
"Halt! What business do you have with the commander!?" Standing in front of majestic looking tent decorated with the symbol of the Azure Sky Kingdoms crest, the messenger was stopped by a strong soldier guarding the entrance, clad from head to toe in a completely black armour that radiated a savage aura.
Clearly, he had seen his fair share of bloodshed on the battlefield and was nowhere near the same level as the guards that the messenger had met at the entrance to the army camp.
Comparing the two almost felt like comparing a new-born chicken just learning to walk, to a battle-hardened chicken that had fought a few other chickens to the death on the battlefield…
"I'm a messenger that is here to deliver an order on behave of his majesty." Not showing any sign of weakness in front of the intimidating soldier, the messenger once again pulled out his token as he introduced himself.
The guard only looked at the token for a split second before moving to the side, allowing for the messenger to enter. No longer paying any attention to him.
"…" The messenger felt it was a bit odd, but still decided to enter the tent as he soon saw the luxurious environment beyond the entrance of the tent.
The thing that stood out the most to the messenger as he made his way deeper into the tent were the many different kinds of weapons scattered around the tent. From swords, axes, bows and spears to more unique weapons like hammers, poles, whips and even a flute giving off a demonic aura that made the messenger shiver when he first saw it.
"So, messenger, his majesty is still not willing to use the communication talismans…? That old idiot will have to use them at some point! I swear this inefficient use of time has to stop at some point… Hah…" Complaining in an obviously annoyed tone, the commander appeared a few centimeters behind the messenger, causing the messenger to jump away in shock.
"Haha, no need to be so scared. You can relay the order for me and take your leave." Feeling a bit amused upon seeing the messenger's reaction, the commander could not help but laugh a bit at the as he informed for him to recite the order given to him.
"This is the order from his majesty" A few seconds soon passed as the messenger finished reciting the order given to him. Following this, the messenger quickly handed over the jade given to him by his majesty before turning around to leave the tent as fast as possible.
"I will take my leave immediately and return to his majesty and inform him that his order and the jade has been received by the commander in charge!" With this, the messenger almost ran out of the tent as the commander began to inspect the jade given to him.
The jade had a few engravings on it, but this was not what caught the commander's attention, instead it was clear and powerful energy lurking beneath the surface of the jade.
When used, this jade could erupt with a terrifying power.
"A safety measure…?" putting away the jade, the commander soon left the tent and made his way in the direction of the tent where they planned their every move in the war against the Heavenly Sky Kingdom.
It was also here that the representatives of the different sects inside of the Azure Sky Kingdom's borders had gathered as they were currently talking about the situation of the war.
"Send someone to inform the others that we will be holding a meeting about a future attack shortly, tell them to gather at the fastest speed possible!" Informing one of the soldiers outside the tent, the commander entered and made his way in the direction of the different sect representatives currently talking among themselves.
He knew that they would not be happy with the idea of them being used as cannon fodder and decided to talk with them before the other important personal arrived. Hopefully, he could convince them before the discussion regarding how to proceed started…
…
As the Azure Sky kingdom were getting ready to launch an attack to breakthrough the Heavenly Sky Kingdom's line of defense, the Heavenly Sky Kingdom reinforcements were all relaxing in a few personal luxurious tents.
The people send over by the Seven Fates Sect to aid in the defense were a little better, but not by much as they still spend most of their time relaxing, causing the atmosphere of the entire army camp to become more relaxed.
Wang Hu and Wang Lan who were the only people present from the Flying Sword Sect saw this situation and had no idea what to do as they watched how the people in charge had completely relaxed after the Azure Sky Kingdom showed no more signs of aggression towards them, there was even a few that were prepared to return to the capital.
This feeling of not wanting to stay guarding the border any longer was further reinforced after some of their spies inside the army of the Azure Sky Kingdom had informed them that the Azure Sky Kingdom's army had already started retreating and getting ready to return back to their capital again.
"What do you think about the current situation brother?" Wang Hu asked his brother Wang Lan as he had been at the border longer than him who had just arrived recently.
"I don't know… After part of the army defected to the other side, I don't think that we can trust the words of the spies inside the Azure Sky Kingdom's army camp… they may be planning a large attack and the current border army is far from ready to deal with it… We should prepare to retreat if things take a turn for the worse later on…" Wearing a heavy expression, Wang Lan looked into the distance where the Azure Sky Kingdom's army camp was located as he felt a looming threat approaching.
"Maybe the Heavenly Sky Kingdom won't make it past the next few years…" Thinking about the plague spreading through the central region and the Azure Sky Kingdom who had managed to infiltrate a large handful of higher-ups in the army, Wang Hu felt a bit helpless in regard to the future of the Heavenly Sky Kingdom.
At least they were part of a sect within the kingdom and should be fine even if the Heavenly Sky Kingdom collapsed.
