Demonic Devourer’s Development

Chapter 79: Maximum value

Chapter 79: Maximum value

‘Master, I finished your latest task, so if you want anything else drained, I can do it real quick now. Just give me a command!’

Pest’s annoying voice was the last thing I wanted to wake me up. The only thing that balanced my annoyance was the girl I had under my arm. Yvenna. Yes, her and the memory of the time we spent together. She had really surprised me… I still wasn’t sure what to make of her.

But she orgasmed with the same energy with which she entered battle rage, and it was as fascinating to watch as the way she relaxed when completely subdued. Painful to hear, but that was gags were for.

‘Shut up, Pest,’ I thought, blinking my eyes open. The sun was shining in the open window, telling me I slept in as it was.

I guess it was time to wake up, after all. I sat up and saw Yvenna stir next to me. Then, she jumped up like a wasp bit her pretty taut ass.

“You!” She scowled at me, pointed a finger and just when I expected her to start throwing punches again, instead asked, “Are you gonna fuck me again?”

It barely gave me a pause. I think I started to just get used to weirdness, at least Yvenna’s, at this point. “Depends,” I shrugged. “Do you want me to?”

Instead of saying anything, Yvenna clenched her teeth and gave me a jerking nod. Then another.

I weighed the offer in my mind. On one hand, sex was always good. On the other hand, now I felt more hungry than horny, and then there were other things to do. Find Rosha, for a start, then plan my eventual ascension to Heaven…

“Later, maybe.” I shrugged. “I gotta go.”

“Go? Where? Already?”

“Yes, already.” I began to pull on my clothes, folding the wings that I let out at some point during the night under my tunic again. “I will find you when I want to, and I will find my own way out.”

Through the door this time, and also Yvenna’s kitchen, where I stole some apples for a snack. Life was good, and in the light of morning after a night of sex, the questions of plans, fates, and prophecies didn’t seem as important anymore. Things happened, and there was no point in bothering about ones that I couldn’t change.

Instead, I remembered what Rosha shared about her business plans, and went to catch her around the biggest place of gathering for adventurers—the local Guild.

To my luck, she was there. I spotted her in the half-empty hall as soon as I entered. She was talking with a burly, weathered man over plates of food. I made a beeline towards them.

“…I can’t just share my sources. Do you think I’m a fool? Please, I’m— Voren!” Rosha’s eyes widened, then narrowed. “I was wondering where you disappeared to.”

“Things, things,” I glanced at her present company. This seemed like a business meeting. “I forgot to ask you where you are staying.”

“Right! But, hey, can you wait just a moment, Voren? I will get back to you.”

That was a dismissal clear enough for me to hear it, but the smell of food and booze in the air pulled at my stomach more than Rosha’s words pulled on my nerves. “I was going to eat something here, anyway.”

From the table I picked to eat my breakfast, I could still hear Rosha’s conversation in the relatively quiet hall if I concentrated. Just as I suspected, she was talking about selling and buying stuff, something I knew almost nothing about.

I was done with my sating my hunger and simply sipped on beer while chewing on delicious little nuts the place sold with it, when Rosha sat down at my table. By that time, I already had a rough plan of my further actions outlined in my mind. It was relatively simple, but organising things… That could be complicated.

“How selling the eggs is going?” I asked.

“I have some prospects already,” Rosha grinned. “Don’t worry, you will get your cash, or cows, soon. It would be harder with a second store idea. There aren’t many crafters running around looking for work. Not just anyone can be one, you know. It’s a lot of learning.”

“Nice. By the way, I found someone else who can help me look through info in the Guild, so you won’t need to worry about Risha anymore.”

“Really?” Rosha perked up, but then her face soured. “Well, it’s too late already, anyway! Thank gods she doesn’t go off for anything more rash and stupid… I left her at the inn, Sleeping Fowl. It’s near the east edge of the city, cheap but decent.”

“By the way, Rosha. I was thinking about my, you know, personal goals, and you are helping me here, don’t you? For your fee.”

“Personal go— ah, you mean, that.” Rosha lowered her head and glanced around the hall. “Listen, I just do business with you, business. Buy stuff, sell stuff. If this helps you, this is a coincidence I knew nothing about, and this is what I will say to any templar who would decide to ask me questions.”

“Whatever you call it, Rosha… Either way, I met some people who help me for other reasons, and I want you to meet them, too. I think you could do a better job together than separately. Maybe they know something that will help you with your money-making, too.” I shrugged and grinned at her. “I’m sure you all will figure it out.”

Bishop, for all his craziness (and I was sure he was just as crazy as Yvenna under all that civilised veneer), was a smart guy, just like Rosha. Me, I wasn’t one for managing and other things you have to do with followers to get maximum value out of them. And it would be a waste to just let them lie around, like any other resource.

Good thing I came with that brilliant idea to let my followers manage themselves. As long as they don’t kill each other…
