Devil Slave (Satan system)

Chapter 498 How Narrow the Human Knowledge

Chapter 498 How Narrow the Human Knowledge

The rattling of the box in the corner interrupted their time together.

Giving Lenny just the right excuse he needed to escape.

“Lenny, what is that?” Gar sent her senses to the metal suitcase. Her brows raised in realization of what it was. “Is that a…”

“Yes, it is. Let’s call it a little souvenir I picked up on the way.” Lenny smiled. “I plan to play with it a bit, do you want to watch?”

Gar turned to Lenny, and then her expression changed, showing that Vine had taken over. “You two have been boring me with your lovey-dovey nonsense, but this one, I want to watch.” She had a bit of a sadistic smile on her face.

Lenny smiled. “I too was hoping you would come out. I have some questions that need answering.”

Lenny instantly waved his hand, and a table appeared from the Satan System.

Lenny dropped the suitcase on the table, and then he opened it.

The moment he did, Mr. Martin jumped at him. However, Lenny caught the nearly translucent head and dropped it on the table.

“A mutated human. That looks interesting!” Vine complimented. “Are we cooking it?”

Mr. Martin heard those words, and it made fear wash over him, “Please, don’t, don’t eat me! I… I don’t taste that good. I… I’ll make you sick.” π™—π™šπ™™π’π™€π’—π’†π’οΌŽπ’„π™€π™’

As he begged, Mr. Martin noticed Lenny putting on surgery gloves, a face mask, and goggles. Lenny also handed Vine a pair.

Mr. Martin, overwhelmed by fear, suddenly developed tiny, spider-like appendages in an effort to escape.

However, Vine immediately released a bit of her aura. The might of which made him instantly fall.

“Deep…Deep Demon… Level existence!” Mr. Martin muttered.

“Please, Vine,” Lenny said as he turned to face her. Don’t do that. If he is filled with more fear than necessary, the brain will activate glutamate, a neurotransmitter that will travel to the hypothalamus and then trigger uncontrollable nervous control.

Considering that he is currently void of a full nervous system, that might backfire into the brain, and we lose our test subject.”

Vine heard Lenny’s words and turned to him in surprise. Just from the way he talked, she could tell that he really knew his stuff. However, she knew he was born and bred in the Arena, and discovering that he had such rich knowledge made her view him differently from before.

It also made her view Cuban to a much higher standard. After all, such glory for Lenny’s brilliance had to be attributed to him, who used to be Lenny’s master.

“Vine, have you ever heard of Frankenstein’s monster?”

Vine raised a brow, but she quickly shook her head.

Lenny nodded. Then again, he did not exactly expect her to have such knowledge. After all, most human books were burned out a long time ago. With the internet being destroyed, such knowledge had become as rare as the eclipse.

“The Frankenstein story was written by Mary Shelley. It is a story exploring the human option of cheating death. Firstly, it was influenced by Mary’s own mother, who attempted suicide two years before she was born because of depression and begged not to be brought back to life.

Secondly, it was influenced by the then-growing field of electrophysiology after passing electric current from lightning storms through the nerves of a dead frog, which made it kick and twitch.

Although the second did not look like much, after a physicist by the name of Giovanni Aldini passed electricity through the corpse of a man, temporarily bringing the body back to life, it was seen that resuscitating the dead was a huge possibility.

Yes, the Frankenstein story is about bringing a person to life.”

However,Vine was not as fascinated as Lenny had hoped.

“I don’t exactly get it. What does that have to do with anything? I don’t think you know this, but in the underworld, there are many who have life even after death. In fact, there is a very influential family of such people who feed on blood regularly as a method of sustenance. Humans were just too ignorant to know these things.”

Lenny chuckled lightly. “That is exactly my point and the reason I needed your presence. You see, I am quite curious to know what would make such a thing possible. I reckon that if a test subject like that…”?Lenny pointed to Mr. Martin, “…could still have life without a body and nervous system, responsible for carrying electrical currents throughout the body, then electrical currents are but a minute part of the whole. From my findings, I have heard that they are called ‘Blessings’.”

Although Lenny said this, he did not tell her that he was only interested in this because he realized that his knowledge of the supernatural world was deeply lacking.

Having to battle an abnormal being like Mr. Martin had opened his eyes to this fact. Also, there was still the incident of clearly dead giant mutated beasts killing the living ones and pulling them away.

Lenny had not been able to use Appraiser on them in time, but he had a hunch that they might as well be connected. And lastly, the giant octopus that he had fought kept coming back to life.

Yet Riff easily defeated the octopus. Lenny could clearly feel that he lacked sufficient knowledge about his opponents. It was no longer just kill with a blade, and death was assured.

At least with Mr. Martin, he was able to grind it out the hard way by cutting him down to size.

He was not sure that even with the strength he had acquired, it would be so easy to fight off opponents like Riff.

After all, devils gather with sinners like angels with saints.

There was one person like Riff in the Alpha Selection Tournament, and then there was bound to be more.

Lenny was not so foolish as to think that he was going to win the tournament by brute force alone. As an assassin, he functioned from the position of strategy and information.
