Chapter 5140: Jillian Hayden
Chapter 5140: Jillian Hayden
“Ahhh!!!”
But suddenly, Davis was awoken out of his focus by a shrill voice that belonged to a wraith.
“You damned scammers! If you tell me that he’s the Supreme One, you think I’m going to believe that he’s the Supreme One? Pei! If he’s the Supreme One, then I’m Poison Saintess Trivera of that era! Pei, pei, pei!”
Davis quickly raised his hand and used his sleeve to block the spittle that came out of her mouth as she seemed to have gone crazy.
The Supreme One took a step forward, “Lady Jillian, I-“
“Shut up!”
Jillian Hayden’s shrill scream echoed through the chamber.
Her voice was so sharp and full of anguish that even the Celestial Transcendent froze in his tracks.
Tears streamed uncontrollably from her eyes as she glared toward the figure beyond the curtains. Her body trembled violently. Weeks of fear, humiliation, loneliness, helplessness, and despair that had been buried deep inside her heart suddenly erupted all at once.
“Even if you really are the Supreme One, where were you!?”
Her voice cracked, “Where were you when I was dragged away from my family!? Where were you when I was locked in the dungeon!?”
She bit her lip so hard that blood nearly appeared.
“You only dare to show up now…” Her shoulders shook violently, “Now… after everything is already over… after I’ve cried all the tears I could cry… after I’ve already accepted my fate… after I’ve already been thoroughly played with…!”
The sorrow in her eyes turned into one of fury, her voice still cracking and sobbing, “How dare you… How dare you come now and claim that you could save me?”
“…”
The Supreme One’s expression receded.
He was… too late!
Still, he took a step forward again and made his way to the bed.
Davis looked between the crying Jillian Hayden and the Supreme One who was approaching.
He couldn’t tell what she was doing, not accepting to be saved by the Supreme One. After all, when had he ever played her? Okay, he might’ve teased her a lot and chased her around the bed, but it wasn’t that serious, right?
Davis wanted to assert his innocence but remained silent.
He watched Supreme One close the distance, wondering if he had already been noticed.
The curtains covering the bed weren’t just normal curtains. They were made up of materials that blocked soul sense and vision, pretty much a standard for privacy. The City Lord only had premium materials to adorn his bed, not only incredibly comfy but also highly private.
Hence, unless the other party used their soul sense or some ocular art, they should only see two shadows while they could see the Supreme One just fine.
“Stop!”
Jillian Hayden furiously roared. She then leaned on the City Lord’s shadow and hugged him.
“I belong to this man now since I’m already his mistress. If you take one more step forward and move the curtain, you would not only be seeing me naked but also have inevitably committed adultery with your gaze. If you truly are the Supreme One, then I believe you wouldn’t engage in such a despicable act, right…?”
“…”
The Celestial Transcendent paused in his tracks again.
Unexpectedly, this woman knew about his character. However, he didn’t find it strange since ancient families still had records about him. The fact that she knew about the long-dead Poison Saintess Trivera also pointed out that she really was Jillian Hayden and not an impostor.
But it was just as he expected. He was indeed too late to save an innocent woman. She had already… changed.
“Forgive me for the intrusion. I’ll take my leave.”
He pulled himself back from this issue and cupped his hands in farewell before he quickly left, leaving through the secret passageway instead of the balcony or the exit.
“…”
Davis watched him leave before confirming that he really did leave the chamber using the formation core.
He then became conscious of the arms that were still hugging him from behind. A pair of mounds was stacked against his back, its warmth soft and comfier than the bed he had fought for.
Blinking, he said lightly, “He left.”
Only then did Jillian Hayden heave a breath and let him go before she plunged to the back of her butt, bouncing lightly as she gazed at the ceiling.
“I messed up… totally messed it up… but with this, I believe we have settled all our debts.”
She lowered her gaze and cast a vivid gaze at him, tears still flickering in her eyes, “You don’t have to kill me anymore for the issue of trying to poison you with the Corrupted Celestial Venom Essence when I thought you were City Lord Kain, right, Divine Emperor of Death?”
“When did you realize?” Davis’s gaze flickered.
He had stopped using Heart Intent to keep the Supreme One from realizing, so he couldn’t tell exactly when she realized.
However, when she had hugged him and made her statement, he quickly understood.
“Just now…” Jillian Hayden’s arched brows twitched, “When you said you knew the Supreme One by voice and acted like you were scared but kept an excited face. That was when it clicked. I can only imagine someone like the Divine Emperor of Death daring to do it in this day and age,”
“Does your mind only work during dangerous situations?” Davis asked with some disbelief but also looked irritated, “However, did you really have to let out all that spittle?”
Jillian Hayden sat properly and said casually, “Got to make the acting really genuine.”
“It’s not like he could see beyond the curtains.” Davis scoffed.
How was that acting? She had indeed broken down from anguish. Furthermore, she was totally regretting not taking the Celestial Transcendent’s hand.
Jillian Hayden looked away, blinking, “Okay, I just wanted to let out my frustrations. A chance to spit at the Divine Emperor of Death and the Supreme One? Mmm, I think I have lived a good life. I think I can go in peace even if you were to end me now.”
Davis’s brows twitched. What spitting at the Divine Emperor of Death and the Supreme One?
The Supreme One was on the opposite side of the curtain! Most of the spit came to him!
“Then die.”
Davis raised his hand, his palm towering over her face as death energy swirled around.
Jillian Hayden instantly closed her eyes and trembled. Her expression went pale, but she didn’t raise a voice.
After a few seconds, Davis chuckled, “Look at you inwardly wishing that I would spare you for the help you did. Hmm, you should rejoice because I will do just that.”
He pulled his hand back and cast a faint approving smile at her before he turned around and left.
“…”
Jillian Hayden watched him leave.
Before the curtains could completely close, she saw him kicking the Steward awake before trying to wake up the others.
Many thoughts roamed in her mind, sometimes dreadful, sometimes wishful.
It wasn’t until a while later that he returned.
“Am I still allowed in this bed?” Davis asked.
Jillian Hayden’s expression brightened. She quickly pointed back, “The left space is mine. You can have the right space. I’ll have a divider set up in between-“
Davis raised his hand and stroked his chin as he interrupted, “Can I do naughty things with my mistress now?”
“Courting death!”
Jillian Hayden’s bright expression quickly turned into a blush, “I said what I said only to repay you for killing the City Lord. Now we’re even. Don’t even think of doing anything to me. Otherwise…”
“Otherwise what?” Davis smiled daringly.
“Otherwise… ” Jillian Hayden’s voice went soft. She didn’t forget he was the Divine Emperor of Death, a faint tremor still roaring in her heart, “I can’t do anything other than curse you to death. I’m warning you… I know some powerful curses…”
By the end, her voice could well be considered a mosquito buzzing.
“…”
Davis found himself casting a fond smile at her.
This woman… despite her situation, was fantasizing about taming a bad guy. Despite her words, there was the least amount of resistance he had ever sensed from her. Indeed, she was broken, yet at the right concoction for him, her demeanor and bearing tugging his heartstrings a bit, making him somewhat hate to part with her in two days.
