Chapter 5166: A Warrior’s Karma

Venerable Knight Lussandra kept retreating in the extreme pull of the defensive soul artifact.

It would’ve even dragged Level Nine Exalts in rather easily.

What was meant for the Divine Emperor of Death was now acting against her, but she didn’t regret it. She had only regretted not doing this sooner, so she could’ve saved Jillian Hayden. She could only wonder what that pitiful woman was doing right now while she tried to defend against the attack that nearly surpassed the layer limit.

A karmic descent from the Realm Master of this Upper Realm themself was surely a death sentence for anyone. This was also meant for the Divine Emperor of Death.

A terrifying howl filled the skies above the mansion as darkness eclipsed her body in a spiraling manner, intending to erase her.

However, she already had her Divine Technique prepared.

As she raised her arms and drew the bow she had manifested-

“Verdant Rage Destruction Arrow~”

She released the arrow, and the verdant arrow, glowing with a crimson light, shot past the attack and even against the pull of the defensive soul artifact. It rose to the skies at incredible speeds as it pierced through the dark clouds and even barely managed to not cause harm to the Ethereal Lumina Tree, as she had kept the trajectory in mind when she unleashed it.

It reached out into space, hundreds of billions of kilometers away, before finally hitting a star.

The star glowed lightly before rupturing into a ring that glowed even more brightly.

Today, a star had died!

Venerable Knight Lussandra had chosen to save a tree branch over a star. It couldn’t be stressed how important the Ethereal Lumina Tree was for the realm. On the other hand, a star? Other than weather changes and astral cultivation, it wasn’t needed much by the current human race.

However, what happened below was even more bizarre.

*Cough~*

Venerable Knight Lussandra coughed out a mouthful of blood. She didn’t even need to look down as she saw the terrifying, long, and curved blade of a scythe rip through her back, come out of her abdomen as the tip of the curved blade hovered right in front of her face.

The scythe appeared to be fully made up of death energy, its prowess nearly at the layer limit.

It had struck the moment she used up all of her focus and became vulnerable for a brief moment.

When she turned to look back as her blood dripped from her lips, her gaze finally calmed as she saw City Lord Kain standing on top of the handle of the manifested scythe.

“Divine Emperor of Death, you’re finally here…”

Her gaze saw through his garb of City Lord Kain, as she knew the only one who could manifest a scythe like this would be none other than the Divine Emperor of Death. The shock was so high that it made her frighteningly calm instead.

On one hand, he held the black-white stone, which was theorized to be a death-attribute apex treasure replica, and on the other, he waved his hand as though greeting her with a faint smile.

No, he seemed to be bidding her farewell.

With a kick to the scythe handle’s end as he flipped back, he sent the scythe flying along with her into the pull of the defensive soul artifact.

The defensive soul artifact had marked her since she was the one who killed Saint Riyal Mendez. Until he was inside, it wouldn’t stop its absorption. It would run until it ran out of energy.

However, the pull suddenly stopped.

Venerable Knight Lussandra was imprisoned by the defensive soul artifact. It was also a sealing treasure- meant for the Divine Emperor of Death.

Davis descended as he saw the corpses of City Lord Kain’s first wife and the Steward. He must say it was a fitting end.

When he landed on the ground, he walked towards the artifact to pick it up and retrieve the Saint’s soul and hurl insults at Venerable Knight Lussandra.

But halfway, he sensed something as he looked at the sky.

Only at this moment did he see the dot in the sky momentarily shudder and scatter.

There was barely any sound.

‘Holy stars… that divine arrow completely destroyed an Exalt Grade Star… that’s insane…’

All he could see was light scatter.

He didn’t think he had such range when it came to attacks other than for karmic attacks, making him wonder if his Fiora could match her arrow one day.

On the other hand, he could only wonder if Realm Master Malzor Hexadra hadn’t forced her to use all her strength, what he had been trying to do would’ve had a high chance of ending in failure. He had only been here for Saint, but unexpectedly, he also caught Venerable Knight Lussandra within the trap.

A few hours ago, the crow-masked, white-haired Davis approached Steward Belmont and the First Madam.

He met them one after another, corrupting their Wills. However, he didn’t make them his slaves.

To Steward Belmont, he had told him to be loyal to City Lord Kain and beg for forgiveness later.

To First Madam Yudeia, he had told her to be faithful to her true love while implanting false memories that she had Steward Belmont’s child inside her.

Davis could only sigh as he cast a glance at her beheaded corpse.

He didn’t know who exactly her true love was, but she had chosen the Saint. Since she had chosen the Saint, she had chosen to end the child. This was where Davis implanted the third Corruption of Will. He had embedded a soul rune into her womb, which was cleared out by the abortion pill, instantly causing her to frame the Saint since his instructions in that rune were to frame the Saint for killing the baby- imaginary baby.

With this, his experiment that a simple mix of Sky Word Language Runes of ‘Impose’ and ‘Seal’ could also work on Wills had concluded.

This was the realm of the Sky Word Emperor that he had yet to explore.

Nonetheless, he thought Venerable Knight Lussandra would save the First Madam. He didn’t expect her to fail. After all, he didn’t expect Realm Master Malzor Hexadra himself to appear as a soul protector.

He thought it would be more along the lines of the Supreme One or some Hexadra Clan Grand Elders.

With Realm Master Malzor Hexadra appearing, he had almost fled because he couldn’t face a True Deity expert. However, hearing Malzor Hexadra insult and attack Venerable Knight Lussandra, he knew his chance had come.

He could only thank Venerable Knight Lussandra for taking the fall for him.

Of course, his plan was multi-angled since it was also meant to rage bait Venerable Knight Lussandra if she was nearby and make her kill the Saint, but he didn’t plan on it working out as he intended to deal with the Saint himself as the City Lord.

He never expected the least likely plan to go smoothly.

This made him wonder if his next step would be easy.

Nonetheless, he doubted this sealing artifact could keep her sealed for more than a few dozen minutes or hours.

However, it definitely bought him the time he needed.

Reaching out his hand, he pulled on the soul artifact. It appeared in his grasp.

It was unbound since the Saint was dead, but its abilities were still active.

Inside, he saw a vast space.

Venerable Knight Lussandra seemed to be a bit paralyzed by the scythe stuck in her. The fear of death was common to all, and the concept behind this scythe manifestation was the same, designed to hold her back in paralysis so he could get away after beating her up for what she did to Illumina.

He didn’t harbor the thoughts of being able to kill her since he knew he wasn’t powerful yet.

Nonetheless, he spotted the Saint’s soul at the center, hovering inside a cauldron.

Using his soul force, he scooped the soul essence up and kept it for himself.

He had obtained Saint Riyal Mendez’s soul essence!
