Dysfunctional – An Assassin’s Guide to Reincarnating in Another World

Chapter 481 480 - The Trap(Part 2)

Chapter 481 480 – The Trap(Part 2)

  Point-of-View: Damien Romer

———————————————————————————

They’re sticking together…no matter, they’ll probably split up after they reach the castle, I’ll decide which of them to target after that.

Still, something feels a bit off. There’s a slight tension and wariness about them…am I just imagining it? I’m sure that they haven’t noticed me, so it can’t be that. But what else could it be?

Well, even if they are somehow onto me, which I highly doubt, I can easily get away in no time using my teleportation.

They’re almost at the castle now, not much longer before I get my chance to spring into action and target my next victim. So, who’s it gonna be? Who am I going to devour next?

It’s almost time to-…huh? What the…? The moment the three of them entered the castle, a massive purple barrier suddenly appeared around the nation. The hell is this?

I don’t like this, I’m getting a really bad feeling-…suddenly, Jhin came shooting out of the castle entrance with his sword in hand, wearing a pair of red crystal glasses, while glancing at what looked like a watch on his wrist.

I then froze in shock, as his gaze locked onto my position, atop a nearby building. Huh? Can he see me? There’s no way! My Nullification is active too, so-…wait, don’t tell me that this barrier is…oh, shit!

As he swung his blade across and fired out a slashing shockwave in my direction, I teleported away in alarm, evading the attack.

Damn it, was this a trap!? I need to leave, ASAP! If this barrier can really detect my Nullification, then there’s no more sneaking around, I have to get the hell out of here!

And deactivating Nullification will result in me being detected by the other barrier, since my Mana signature isn’t registered in it.

And those glasses that Jhin guy was wearing, do they let him see me even if I’m invisible? This is really bad, I-…suddenly, a crackle of lightning echoed out, as I glanced back to see a scythe flowing with lightning rapidly spinning towards me.

I swiftly used teleport again to get out of the way, and the moment I reappeared, a fiery slash came blazing towards me. Crap, my teleport Support Magic has a two second cooldown after being used! I quickly activated my defense Support Magic to put up a barrier wall, to just barely block the slash.

Tch, it’s Rai Rumel and Key Angor…they’re wearing the same glasses and watches as Jhin is. No doubt about it then, they can actually see me.

Suddenly, several Elemental Magic attacks came barreling in towards me, as I swiftly turned intangible to avoid getting hit.

I can stay intangible continously for a maximum of twenty seconds, and if I use up the limit, it’s a ten second cooldown. Fortunately, I can indefinitely use invisibility continously, though it seems to have been rendered pointless at the moment.

At least twenty people had me surrounded right now, all wearing the same red glasses and watches. Yeah, they definitely prepared for this, they counted on me coming to Abyss today. And I fell for their trap.

If those glasses let them see me even though I’m invisible, then I’m guessing that those watches indicate my position, allowing them to follow me even if I’m not within sight.

That must be how they all got here and surrounded me…damn it, I should’ve had my sensory Support Magic active. It’s a bit tricky to have multiple continuous Support Magics active simultaneously, so I only had invisibility active.

Okay, calm down…I may be surrounded and outnumbered, but I’m much stronger than anyone here. I’ll just have to kill them all if I can’t get away.

”Give it up, it’s over. We’re putting an end to you right here and now,” Remarked Rai icily, as lightning violently crackled around his hammer and scythe.

”We won’t let you disrupt the peace we’ve worked so hard to achieve any further,” Added Key, as orange fur sprouted across her arms and legs, along with black wings and a sleek, sharp tail, as dark purple flames swirled around her sword.

I noticed Jhin holding a Spell Card, with an impatient, annoyed look on his face…is he trying to activate some kind of spell, but it isn’t working? Doesn’t matter, I can nullify whatever it is.

”Huh? Oh, please…you all are way too weak to stop me,” I scoffed in response, before shifting my gaze towards a random Adventurer surrounding me, who stiffened in alarm and began to spring back, but was too slow as I teleported in close and drove my trident towards his chest.

Suddenly, I let out a surprised hiss of pain as a narrow, purple beam of heat pierced through my left side, through my torso and out through my right side.

Wh-what just-…? I grimaced as I glanced over, to see a pink haired, feminine-looking guy pointed a finger in my direction. Tch, Prato Cichudde, huh…he’s pretty tough for someone with a power level on the lower side.

As the Adventurer I’d closed in on sprang away and got some distance, I teleported into an alley to give myself some time to heal the hole through my body, before grimacing and racing away with a wince of pain as a couple of fireballs and lightning bolts came shooting towards me.

As I sprang out of the alley, Rai Rumel swooped down from above with his hammer raised, violently crackling with lightning. I quickly teleported away, just in time, as his hammer slammed onto the ground with a vicious spark and crackle as lightning burst out, the ground breaking apart upon impact.

I teleported up to a nearby rooftop, before ducking as a purple, fiery slash came barreling towards me, narrowly evading it, before leaping off the building in alarm as Jhin closed in on me from behind and drove his blade towards me.

The edge of the blade gashed the right side of my waist painfully, as I narrowly avoided sustaining a deeper injury, grimacing in pain as my blood gushed out.

Damn it, just because I can heal doesn’t mean that these injuries don’t hurt like hell!

I then let out a gasp of pain as two purple heat beams shot towards me, one grazing my left knee and the other bursting through my right shoulder, causing me to stumble in agony, the pain blurring my vision slightly.

I quickly teleported out of the way as Rai and Key both converged in on me with their weapons raised, just barely getting out of the way as they swung them down.

Tch, enough of this, I shouldn’t be struggling against people who are so much weaker than me! I then unleashed my True Anima, a shockwave erupting from me as I transformed, before I teleported behind an Adventurer with Demonic features and swiftly plunged my claws into his back, ripping out his heart.

As I did, a black mist burst out of the corpse, flying away…too bad, looks like the Demon had successfully possessed this body. Meaning that there’s no point in me eating this heart, it’ll only give me a negligible boost in power level.

I then evaded as Prato fired a barrage of heat beams at me, before teleporting away as my cooldown ended. As I reappeared on the edge of a rooftop, someone suddenly sprang up from the alley below, before what felt like tentacles wrapped around me, restraining my limbs and wrapping around my neck, rapidly tightening.

”Suffocate and die, already,” Stated the person restraining me, as I let out a choked gasp.

I strained my hands and managed to get a finger on one of his tentacles…before using my Corruption Magic to rot it, breaking my right arm free as the tentacle fell off, and as I felt him start to leap back in alarm, I swiftly reached back, grabbed the top of his head and killed him with my Corruption Magic.

Oh, he’s got Demonic features…ah, wait, I recognize him, Lusk Cotuid, he’s participated in a few tournaments, he’s supposed to be pretty good. I swiftly tore out his heart and teleported away as several heat beams came shooting towards me, evading them as I fried the heart and rapidly chomped it down.

I’ll pick off the weaker ones one by one, and then target the more powerful ones once they’re all riled up…yeah, that should work perfec-…huh?

Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of me in a white blur, before an immense force struck my midsection and sent me flying back, slamming onto the side of a building with a sharp cry of pain, before plummeting to the ground and crashing down with a painful thud.

”Wh-what just…?” I groaned with a grimace, as I healed myself as fast as possible.

Wait, that’s…oh, shit. But, how, he’s not supposed to be here…

”You are late. I have been trying to summon you for the past several minutes,” Frowned Jhin with a glare.

”Sorry, sorry, I was in the bathroom till just a few seconds ago,” Came the sheepish response.

Damn it, this is really bad…it’s Shiro Blanc…
