Chapter 19 - He's No Prince Charming
Princess Evelyn: “Hera sweety, I’m guessing Danny’s phone is with you because he’s not answering my calls and messages?”
Hera’s eyes widened in surprise as she read the message addressed to her.
It was as though Evelyn could see her checking the messages right now. Hera smiled and typed the reply.
“Hey, Evie, how are you? And yes. I’m having Danny’s phone.”
Princess Evelyn: “Did your Prince charming call?”
Evelyn had attached a winking emoticon at the end of her message, and Hera rolled her eyes. “No greetings, no how are you, nothing. Huh, Hunter and his friends!” She mumbled to herself while typing the reply.
“You and I both know, Evie.. HE IS NO PRINCE CHARMING. And no, Satan has not called yet. How do you know that he was going to call me?”
Princess Evelyn: “Hera, you know right, we don’t keep secrets? Of course, I’ll know everything my friends do or going to do. We’re best friends forever, after all.”
Evelyn ended that message with a dancing emoticon. Hera could practically feel the smug smile on Evelyn’s face as she read the words coated with arrogance and pride.
Hera shook her head and smiled sarcastically. “Of course, you are,” she said to herself.
Princess Evelyn: “Okay, Hera, let me check what’s stopping him from calling you. Give me a minute, I’ll check on him once.”
Hera bit her lip nervously while her eyes widened in alarm.
‘Oh, no. Hunter will think I’ve been waiting for his call.’
Hera didn’t want Evie to call him to ask why he didn’t call her yet, and she still had to check Hunter’s message. Hera immediately dialled Evelyn’s number, and she answered it in one ring. Hera didn’t even wait for her to say hello. “Evie, please don’t call him. He’ll think I’m desperate,” Hera said, her tone pleading as the words rushed out of her mouth.
“Well, aren’t you?” Evelyn immediately asked, her tone held a teasing note, voice filled with amusement. Hera bit her lip and couldn’t deny it. Was she desperate? She didn’t want to admit it, but of course, she was desperate. She couldn’t wait to hear his deep, harmonious voice. She hated that she’d been missing him so much that it hurt. But when did her heart listen to her mind? Hera sighed in defeat. Evelyn sensed her silent plea.
“It’s fine, Hera. Just relax. I won’t call him if you don’t want me to. Tell me, how are you? I missed you, Hera. Come back soon, okay? We all are waiting for you to come back so that we can celebrate,” Evelyn said in a cheerful tone while Hera frowned. “Celebrate what, Evie? What did I miss?” She asked cluelessly, and Evelyn giggled in response.
“Oh, yes. Congratulations, Hera. At last, Mother Nature decided to bless you and opened the bridge to womanhood. Isn’t that reason enough to celebrate? We are hosting a party in your honour,” Evelyn said in her sweet voice.
‘Oh, no, not again. No more party, please. Wait a minute, what?’
Hera pursed her lips in anger as she realized what Evelyn meant. “Oh, my God, Evie, how do you know about it?” She asked. It was a rhetorical question. She already knew the answer to it. “Don’t tell me Danny told you,” Hera said through her gritted teeth making Evelyn snicker. “But he did tell me, Hera,” said Evelyn, still giggling. ρꪖꪕᦔꪖꪕꪫꪣꫀꪶ
Hera balled her fist in anger and wished Danny’s face was in front of her to take the punch. She groaned in frustration.
‘Talk about embarrassment.’
“Evie, why would you and Danny even discuss my newly attained puberty? It’s gross,” Hera whined in disapproval. Evelyn rolled her eyes and groaned. “Hera, why wouldn’t we? It’s our rule, no secrets between friends,” she said in a duh a tone, stating their obvious rule.
“But, Evie, it isn’t yours or Danny’s secret to share. Oh, my God! Does it mean your whole gang knows?” Hera asked, having a feeling of shameful discomfort. She couldn’t stop cursing Danny. Was he for real? Why would he discuss her with his friends? He should join Hilary, School’s gossip column writer. They would make a good team together without a doubt.
‘He sure enjoys GIRL TALK.’
Hera gasped loudly when the realization hit her. “Oh, shit! Evie, Does Hunter know?” Evie hummed in response and laughed when Hera said how much she hated all of them. “Oh, yeah, he can’t wait to see you, Hera. Finally, you two can get back together, and this time, you can reciprocate his feelings and desires. I’m so happy for you both,” Evelyn was saying when Hera heard someone calling Evelyn’s name in the background. Hera could guess, it was Samantha.
Hera was not ready to exchange any pleasantries with any other member of Satan’s team at that moment. So she hung up with a quick goodbye. Hera’s mind went on a whirlwind tour as recollected what Evelyn said.
‘What did she mean when she said, I can reciprocate his feelings and desires now?’
That would never happen, not again. Hera was not that dense to plunge into that deathtrap repeatedly. You wouldn’t jump into the fire knowingly, right? Hera would never dig her own grave. He was trouble. He was a pain. He was a nightmare. He was not going to hypnotize her mind and rule her heart again. She won’t let him in, never again.
With that decision made, Hera opened his message to see what he’d got to say and it only made her scoff.
Ace: “Sorry, LOVE, couldn’t call you. I’m kind of busy with something important. I can’t wait to meet you, though. See you soon, Goddess Hera.”
He had texted such a short message and didn’t even mention the reason for being busy. Hera was avoiding the moment, not wanting to talk to him. She should be glad that she got off with it, but it only made her heart sulk in disappointment. Why? Because unknowingly, she was counting the minutes and seconds waiting for his call the whole evening. What was he so busy with that he couldn’t spare a minute to call her?
She reread his message, and her mind remembered everything Danny said.
‘He is missing you, be nice, don’t hurt his feelings, oh blah blah blah. So much for missing you.’
Danny’s phone pinged again showing an incoming message. This time Hera didn’t hesitate opening the message. It led her to their group chat. Whatever she read there, made her even more furious. They were all discussing her, and she decided to read the whole conversation starting from the beginning.
And what did she discover?
Hunter’s best friends were teasing him about “his girl” being a ripened fruit now, and that he was the only one to taste and enjoy it. She cringed at the mess they called “thoughts.”
‘How disgusting!’
Hera closed the message inbox and carefully placed the phone on her bedside table, not wanting to cause any damage to it and threw herself on her bed with a thud. There were days when she couldn’t wait to go back to London. But now, she’s dreading reaching her destination. Her gaze turned to the ceiling above her, and she sighed helplessly.
As Abby said, for sure, her Prince charming came to her rescue when she was in desperate need of love. However, her Prince charming had turned himself into an evil monster now. Who would save her from this heartless Satan?
‘Can anyone please tell me that a knight in shining armour still exists? There’s a damsel in distress to rescue here.’
