GHML – Chapter 11.2: To Boost Your Brain Power (2)

He stretched himself lazily and opened his closet to pick out his outfit for the day. The weather has been getting colder and colder recently as the season changed. Without any instruction from He Jiang, Lin Lin had sent over a few more sets of autumn clothes for him.

Subconsciously, he pulled out a set of business suit that was suitable for the autumn weather.

Crisp white shirt sleeves with the top two buttons undone, paired with indigo-colored business pants that fitted his body like a glove and a deep V neckline blazer, he looked casual yet formal.

The indigo made his skin look fairer and brighter in contrast. He was like the most eye-catching slice of cake displayed in a cake shop that was decorated with cherries and blueberries and finished off with an exquisite blue silk bow.

One of the solutions given by netizens on how to please their husbands was to dress themselves up. That was much easier than cooking up a storm.

Uwu… It’s better than nothing.

When Shang Jing finally stepped out of his room, he was met with the sight of He Jiang grabbing his car keys, ready to leave the house.

In his peripheral vision, He Jiang caught sight of Shang Jing and froze in position for five seconds. His hand tightened around his car keys.

“Where are you going?” Both men asked at the same time. Wariness was present in both of their voices.

He Jiang: “I’m going to that hospital we were at previously. What about you?”

He is usually dressed in loose boxers at home. Now that he’s going out to meet others, he is dressed to the nines.

A gentleman will dress handsomely for his sweetheart. He Jiang felt a twinge in his heart.

Shang Jing quickly processed the situation. If He Jiang leaves the house, wouldn’t his outfit for today go to waste? It was so troublesome to fix his hair too.

He could not let his efforts go to waste.

Moreover, Dr. Bo had advised him to interact abundantly with things he was familiar with in the past to stimulate his brain.

The only person he knew from his past was He Jiang. If he followed him, he might just meet someone he was familiar with in the past.

Shang Jing: “I’m not going anywhere. Can I accompany you to the hospital?”

He Jiang did indeed have the intention to keep this little butterfly under his close watch. However, since he was going to fetch someone from the hospital today, it would not be appropriate for Shang Jing to tag along.

His aunt, He Silan, had been diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. When he was younger, he had lived with her for a year and had formed deep bonds with her.

Sometime ago, He Silan had slipped and fell at home, causing some external injuries to her head. It was not a deep wound but the entire family had panicked and admitted her into Huayue for fear that the wound would accelerate the worsening of her Alzheimer’s disease.

After half a month of observation, she was finally ready to be discharged and He Jiang was on his way to go fetch her.

Shang Jing: “Can I visit your aunt with you?”

He Jiang thought about it. Considering He Silan’s fondness of the younger generation, she agreed, “Fine, but watch what you say there. Don’t blab needlessly like last time.”

He Jiang had spent an entire hour explaining before his dad finally understood his predicament. However, it would not be that easy to change his aunt’s mindset once it was formed.

Shang Jing: “Sure, sure. I’ll make sure to do more and talk less.”

He quickly put on his shoes but was stopped by He Jiang halfway. “Go catch a bite before we leave.”

Shang Jing: “There’s breakfast available?”

He Jiang replied emotionlessly, “Dumplings.”

Shang Jing did not have the courage to ask whether the dumplings were still intact or not.

Obediently, he dished out a bowl of dumplings soup, together with the dumplings skins and fillings, and finished all of them without leaving a single drop.

On the way to the hospital, He Jiang collected the bouquet of fresh flowers he had ordered from the guard room, and briefly updated Shang Jing on his aunt’s condition. He specially emphasized, “You better keep your mouth shut if you don’t want to invite troubles to yourself. My aunt is not someone you can easily fool.”

Shang Jing thought of a wise and strict old lady and pressed his lips together. He was not daunted. He loved interacting with the elderly, like Auntie Huang who made him feel like a loved kid with a doting mother.

The seventy-nine year old He Silan was relatively in the pink of health and had long since packed her stuff and was waiting for He Jiang to fetch her.

Her Alzheimer’s symptoms would relapse intermittently. Most of the time, she appeared normal and it was hard to tell whether she was having a relapse. As such, they could only treat her normally and act accordingly on a case-by-case basis.

Shang Jing could tell He Silan was different from Auntie Huang at first glance. Even though her facial features were peaceful, she had a sharp glint in her eyes that made him feel like she could see through the relationship he had with He Jiang. He had a feeling that if he lied in front of her, he would be subjected to a palm slap by her.

He automatically assumed an obedient and reserved posture as his mindset shifted from meeting his landlord’s parent to the nerve-wracking situation of meeting his husband’s extended family.

This was after all He Jiang’s aunt! Judging from his willingness to personally pick her up from the hospital, they must have a close bond with each other.

Shang Jing panicked slightly. As compared to talking to He Jiang’s dad on the phone, this was way worse.

But what was there to panic about when they were about to get a divorce?!

Shang Jing hammered himself mentally but in the end, it was all for naught. After paying his respects to He Jiang’s aunt, he merely stared at the floor shyly like a coy little wife.

He Jiang: “Aunt, I’ll send you back to the main family home for you to rest up today. I’ll come by again tomorrow with my uncles to have lunch with you.”

He Silan stared at the both of them and pointed at Shang Jing. “Is this your wife?”

Alarm bells rang in Shang Jing. He looked at He Jiang with panic.

He Jiang, on the other hand, was calm and collected. “No, he’s just a friend.”

However, He Silan was not convinced. She rubbed her wrist and said, “I am not stupid, I can tell.”

She addressed Shang Jing once again, “You tell me.”
