GHML – Chapter 13.2: Unchartered Territories (2)
After five seconds, He Jiang woke up his phone again in frustration.
He Jiang: 【Not just car accidents. He is also scared of the sound of gunshots and anything similar to that. Hearing them will cause him serious insomnia. I’ll fill you in on the details when you are back.】
It was daytime where the psychiatrist was. Feeling full of energy, he decided to tease He Jiang: 【So he’s that guy you wanted me to treat three years ago. Didn’t both of you break up?】
Three years ago when He Jiang left for the US, he had contacted this friend of his. However, before this buddy of his even stepped out of California, he had already broken up with Shang Jing.
He Jiang: 【Mind your own business.】
…
The next day.
Shang Jing woke up at 6.30AM with a jolt of wariness. Noticing he was under the same blanket as He Jiang, he spared no time to scramble out of bed. But seeing as both of their outfits were still neatly in place on them, he let out a sigh of relief.
Shaking He Jiang’s arm, he called out, “Wake up! Time to go to Aunt He’s house!”
He Jiang mumbled sleepily with his eyes still closed, “What time is it?”
Shang Jing: “6.30AM!”
He Jiang flipped over onto his side to block out the noise. “Who will go to their aunt’s house at 6.30AM? I am not crazy.”
Shang Jing knew it was not an easy task to wake He Jiang up. That was also the reason he had agreed to share a bed with him last night. Looking at the current situation, a surround sound alarm system was necessary.
With both his arms and legs, he climbed onto the side He Jiang was facing. “But both Aunt He and I have issues with our heads.”
He Jiang: “…” Memories of yesterday’s conversation came back to him.
Right, I have to replenish the stock in my aunt’s storeroom.
He Jiang opened his eyes with difficulty. The sight of Shang Jing kneeling on the bed next to him filled his vision. From his angle, he could see Shang Jing’s collarbone as well as…
He Jiang: “…”
“…”
“Keep quiet, let me snooze for another half an hour.”
“Aunt He’s house is a distance away. If you don’t wake up now, you won’t be able to make it there on time,” Shang Jing was a bag of nerves. Climbing over He Jiang back to his side of the bed, he started to fold his blanket and arrange his pillows, creating as much commotion as he could in an attempt to form a conducive environment for waking up.
He Jiang froze. With a deep breath, he said, “Go cook me a bowl of dumplings. I’ll leave after I’ve eaten.”
Shang Jing: “Ok, sure.”
He hopped off the bed and turned on the induction cooker to boil some water. However, he was faced with a dilemma when he opened the refrigerator to take some dumplings.
All three drawers in the fridge were filled with the dumplings he had wrapped. Apart from them, there were two additional packets of supermarket-bought dumplings.
The douchebag is only worthy of eating instant food.
Shang Jing pulled out a box of his homemade dumplings. “I’ll let you have some this time since I’m also having them for breakfast.”
When He Jiang came out of the shower, he saw Shang Jing dart into his room to get a set of his clothes then took position at the entrance to wait for him.
He Jiang: “…”
On the dining table, there were two bowls of dumplings. A sniff of the aroma and He Jiang could tell they were made with his favorite fillings.
Shang Jing took out a small plate of vinegar. “Do you want to add some vinegar to yours?”
He Jiang: “Yes.”
Shang Jing took out his handphone. “Do you want to add me on WeChat?”
He had received his phone bill today. It was at that point did he realize his handphone plan did not include SMS.
Every time he sent He Jiang a text message, he was charged twenty cents.
It was not worth it.
He had never cared to add He Jiang on WeChat unless he initiated it. After all, SMS does the job as well as WeChat.
He Jiang took out his phone, unlocked it, and handed it to Shang Jing, “Help yourself.”
At first, he was dead set on cutting ties with this little troublemaker and did not want to have anything extra to do with him. However, little did he know, Shang Jing was here to stay. Moreover, Shang Jing was so used to sending SMSes till he had already gotten used to receiving them, and had totally forgotten about adding him on WeChat.
Shang Jing took over He Jiang’s phone, changed his contact name to ‘Wife’ and sent a few ‘Good morning’ texts to himself followed by a screenshot of these texts before deleting the chat history. When all of these were done, he changed his contact name to ‘The clever Shang Jing’.
