GHML – Chapter 8.2: An Unavoidable Confrontation (2)
It was a quiet drive back home.
When they were nearing the entrance of the neighborhood, Shang Jing piped up, “You can stop here. I would like to walk the rest of the way.”
Xiao Bei: “Ok, take care. Please stay safe.”
Shang Jing: “Thank you for your help today.”
“You’re welcome.”
After alighting from the car, Shang Jing bought a box of cut fruits from the fruits shop at the outskirts of the neighborhood and made a visit to the security guard’s room.
Placing the box of fruits on the table, he greeted each security guard politely, “I’m new in the neighborhood. I’ll be counting on your help in the future.”
“For sure, for sure. “ One of the security guards pulled out a chair and dusted off the crumbs on top. He gestured to it. “Here, here, take a seat.”
Shang Jing did not know He Jiang had already informed the security guards of his presence previously and was wondering why they were acting so friendly towards him. But he figured this was probably a common occurrence at these kinds of premium estates.
Claiming he was bored at home, he stayed to chat with one of the security guards. From the ages of the security guard’s children to where they were schooling, they talked about everything under the sun. In the meantime, Shang Jing subtly slipped in some questions about He Jiang.
The security guard had a deep impression of He Jiang. “Mr. He had only registered two people in the face recognition system. One is his manager and the other is you. The bond between you brothers must be strong.”
Shang Jing pursed his lips.
Right, to the public, I am still his younger brother.
“Are there any children currently learning how to play the piano in this vicinity?”
Shang Jing furrowed his brows and put on a concerned face.
The security guard racked his brains. “The youngest daughter of unit A13 is currently taking piano lessons every weekend morning. Each lesson lasts 3 hours. Did the noise disturb you?”
But Unit A13 was a distance away from Mr. He’s villa. He should not have been able to hear it.
Shang Jing shook his head. “No, I heard it by chance while walking around the neighborhood and am curious since I play the piano too.”
…
After Shang Jing left the security guard room, he made his way to unit A13, and waited politely after pressing the doorbell.
The sound of erratic piano playing sounded inside the house.
Within a few minutes, the door was opened by the mistress of the house. Frustration was written all over her face. She had probably just emerged from trying to teach her daughter how to play the piano. However, after seeing Shang Jing’s innocent and handsome face, her expression and tone softened.
“Can I help you?”
Shang Jing did not beat around the bush. He briefly introduced himself and expressed his wish of wanting to give piano lessons in the area since he was bored at home.
Hearing he was He Jiang’s younger brother, Mrs. Wang’s eyes widened with surprise. She had an exemplary impression of He Jiang which radiated outwards to anyone who was associated with him. Moreover, Shang Jing’s arrival was timely, considering her daughter had just driven her piano teacher away.
She welcomed him into the house gleefully and led him to the piano room where her four-year-old daughter was randomly poking at the black and white keys.
Shang Jing smiled. “Hi there. Shall I play a tune for you?”
Zhang Shishi: “Ok, pretty brother!”
Soon, the melodic tune of《Canon in D major》flowed in the room. Shang Jing’s movements were gentle and graceful as his finger danced across the keys, quickly capturing the little girl’s heart.
People of this era were indeed particular about looks.
However, Shang Jing’s dashing looks were only able to retain Zhang Shishi’s attention for half an hour.
Shang Jing: “Don’t you want me as your teacher?”
Zhang Shishi shook her head fervently. In her sweet little voice, she bargained, “I want. I-I am just going to go get ice cream.”
…
Within eight days, Shang Jing had gotten Zhang Shishi familiarized with the basics of piano playing and even taught her a simple tune. Pleased with the results, Mrs. Wang rewarded him with a 10k yuan paycheque.
With it and a mask on, he stepped into Huayue Neurology Hospital.
There were only a few people in the lobby. Probably because it was a hospital specializing in neurology, emphasis was placed on maintaining a peaceful environment, it was very quiet.
Shang Jing followed the signs towards the consultation rooms. Noticing a doctor on duty in one of them, he knocked. “May I come in?”
“Come in,” A young voice called out.
Shang Jing entered.
Inside, there was a young doctor studying an image of a brain. He had gentle features and an elegant disposition. On the table, there was a nameplate that read ‘Doctor-in-charge, Bo Ya’.
