Chapter 30: Team Leaders
Chapter 30: Team Leaders
Once he was alone, Lucas used the key he obtained from Lock and opened the door to his new room.
The ‘key’ was actually a card that he had to swipe on the device by the doorknob.
After opening the door, Lucas entered the room and immediately began looking around.
The room was quite empty with nothing but two empty beds and some furniture. As for the room itself, while it isn’t anything too grand, there was more than enough space for two— even three people to occupy at once, and it was much larger than the hotel rooms in the guild, so Lucas has no complaints.
Hell, he wouldn’t complain even if the room was only as spacious as a bathtub.
And while Lucas checked out his new living quarters, Ken went to meet with his Team Leader.
“Leader, I’m telling you— we need to get this newbie into our team!”
The Team Leader did not immediately respond, as she was busy looking through Lucas’ information.
However, since Lucas didn’t provide them with much information, it didn’t take long for her to finish reading through the entire thing.
“You want to invite a level 13 into our team? What’s your reasoning for such a decision?” The Team Leader calmly asked him.
“He nearly killed me— that’s my reason.” Ken quickly responded with a solemn face.
“You must be joking with me.” The Team Leader clearly didn’t buy it.
In her eyes, there was simply no way for a level 13 to kill someone who’s level 60 unless Ken purposefully stuck his neck out as an offering for Lucas.
“I’m serious. There are other witnesses. You can ask them if you don’t believe me.”
“…”
“You’re dead serious?” The Team Leader frowned.
“Dead serious.” Ken nodded.
“Tell me more about this newbie.”
Ken proceeded to explain his fight with Lucas.
“That newbie is crafty, bold, and even a little crazy. He dared to keep all of his skills hidden until the last moment even though he was fighting someone triple his own level. If it were not for my ability, he would’ve seriously injured me if not outright killed me.”
“After all, who is crazy enough to kill the interviewer during a guild recruitment?”
The Team Leader pondered in silence as Ken spoke.
Once Ken was finished, she spoke in a calm voice, “It says that he’s a frontline attacker. Our team already has more than enough people for such role, and they are all above his level— while being more skillful and experienced as well.”
“I know, but I think we should still recruit him into our team. He’s too good to pass up, especially if you consider his future potential. Hell, he might even become our ace member.”
“Basically an investment, huh? Give me some time to think about it.” The Team Leader said.
“Alright, but don’t take too long, because I’m sure that the others are also speaking with their Team Leader regarding Lucas. You’ll regret it if the other two take him first.”
The Team Leader smiled and said, “You really care about this newbie, huh? I have never seen you this impatient and excited for a newbie. You sure he’s not your cousin?”
Ken laughed and said, “You would understand my feelings if you sparred with him.”
Meanwhile, the other two Team Leaders were also engaged in conversations regarding Lucas with the members that witnessed his strength during the interview, just like Ken had anticipated.
However, in the end, these two Team Leaders were just like Ken’s Team Leader— hesitant on accepting a level 13 newbie who has little to no experience when compared to the other members in their party.
Furthermore, none of them have witnessed Lucas’ fight. In their eyes, they were far more experienced and knowledgeable when compared to the other members, so their views greatly different from each other.
For example, the members may be impressed by Lucas’ performance, but in the eyes of these experienced Team Leaders, it might not be as impressive.
With that being said, it was not as though these Team Leaders had no interest in Lucas. In fact, they were quite interested in Lucas after learning that he’d forced Ken to fight seriously despite the level gap. They are merely being cautious, as not everyone would be willing to have a low level in their group.
After all, even though they all belong in the same guild, the Team Leaders have to pay their members a monthly income just like real workers even if the member doesn’t go on a dungeon raid.
Meanwhile, Lucas decided to sleep early.
“These beds are multiple times more comfortable than the ones in the guild…” Lucas mumbled as he tucked himself under the fluffy blankets, feeling incredibly blissful for being able to sleep in such a place.
And in just a couple of moments, Lucas managed to fall asleep.
During his sleep, Lucas had a dream. It was a weird dream that could neither be called a good dream nor a nightmare.
In this dream, he was surrounded by darkness, and he would get this feeling of someone— something that was hidden in the darkness glaring at him.
However, no matter how much he called out to this unknown entity, it would not show itself, and it would continue to remain hidden, silently watching him from the darkness until he woke up the following morning.
*Knock* *Knock*
Lucas woke up to the sound of his door being knocked.
He quickly got out of the bed and went to open the door, expecting Ken to be outside.
However, it wasn’t Ken.
Instead, he was greeted by a tall beauty with long, silky black hair and a slender body, and she had this cold expression on her face that appeared to be natural at glance.
“Are you Lucas?” She asked him.
“I am. Who are you?” Lucas responded.
“I’m the Team Leader for Team Blossom, Eva, and I’m here to evaluate you to see if you qualify for my team. Hurry up and get dressed. We’ll head out in ten minutes,” she said.
Although his situation was quite sudden, Lucas quickly washed his face and got dressed.
