Chapter 1222 1222 Is Here
With the energy from the storage mostly integrated into her body, Nico began to feel the profound level of change that Max had experienced when his System had evolved his body. It wasn’t quite the same for her, as she was directing the process, but the System had understood her intentions and was currently working with Max’s System nanobots to determine what the best path forward would be. 𝒍𝓲𝒃𝙧𝓮𝙖𝒅.𝓬𝙤𝓶
According to the system, they were two entirely different species at this point, but they wanted to be compatible, and that was one of the priorities that the Nanobots weren’t willing to let go of. So, they had determined that they would make Nico compatible with Max, as the second of the new empowered humans.
They had researched the human media database to see what the two of them might be going for, but there were very few references to a matched pair of super humans. Mostly, the evolved humans in the movies were a solitary evolution, as Max had been, and there was no other like them, so their lineage couldn’t continue.
That was the trigger for the System. If there was no media reference, it must mean that Nico intended to continue her lineage, using Max. That was a thing that the System knew very well. It continued its lineage with the children of compatible users a trillion times a year if you considered the entire human species.
So, the System brought in every other human that it could contact.
If there was a way to adapt Nico to be compatible with Max and create new children with perfect system compatibility and a power level on par with Greater Energy Beings, they would find it.
But Nico was also a pilot and combatant first and foremost. That would make things difficult, unless they modified the process so that it didn’t hinder her combat capability.
That part would also be difficult, but since they were working with a biomechanical life form this time and not a regular human, it should be possible.
Nico was blissfully unaware of what the System thought that she wanted it to do. Her primary goal was to overtake Max as the greatest fighting force in the human species, but after she had integrated his energy, the System had completely focused on the need for compatibility in order to advance her next evolution, and had taken that in a comprehensive manner and not in a battle focused context.
So, while the System worked to remake her body even further, Nico set out to hunt the energy that it would need to complete the process.
[Commander Nico, there is a large gathering of the red demons aboard a crashed cutter class vessel reported by the advanced scouts one hundred and seventy kilometres to the northeast. It was found in a ravine, and the scout team is currently monitoring.] Felicity informed her.
While Sylvie helped Max, Felicity helped Nico, a compromise between the two AI systems to prevent overlapping information relays and suggestions. They conferred on everything, with the final decision and transmission going to the assigned interface. 𝓵𝒊𝒃𝙧𝙚𝒂𝓭.𝓬𝙤𝙢
The two were having a brilliant time with this battle, finally getting to work together with another AI. Felicity had created over a hundred of them, with base programming, but as she was assigned to the construction zone, she had never had the chance to really coordinate with them in battle on this level.
“Thank you, Felicity. I’m on my way.”
[Nico to scout unit, I am inbound with a light reconnaissance force. We will take on the troops at the cutter, with a focus on the Demons. The research team is doing experiments on them right now, in hopes to advance our technology, so where possible, please use your Disintegrator to kill them, to free energy from their cohesive forms.]
The scouts smirked as they read the message. Of course, Nico’s solution would be to kill them in a specific way. There had been plenty of chances to capture one, but none of them had ever seen any such order. Instead, they focused entirely on killing.
Nico didn’t pause as she rushed past them with a sword in each hand. Nor did she pause as a crossing sweep of her arms cleared a swathe of the red demons from existence. What stopped her was the appearance of a main battle tank that made her roll to the side to avoid a massive plasma discharge.
“That was close, Commander.” The scout leader laughed as the shot came close enough that it made the Mecha’s void shield glow as it passed by.
He ordered his troops to move to the flank and let the Mecha work. The fast attack unit attached to Nico’s troops would do the hit-and-run efforts, so his scouts could focus on staying hidden and assassinating priority targets.
The red demons were like the blood soaked warriors, they didn’t really have or need leadership, they were more like mindless berserkers, but picking off ones that got into good ambush or sniper positions would reduce the casualties among the fast attack team.
Those were the primary targets this time, as if the Demons could sense the energy from the life forms inside. They almost entirely ignored the drones unless they were under attack, and even the Android Piloted Mecha were given a lower priority than the Valkia Archangels.
It was a phenomenon worth noting, and the scout made a recording to send back to Alliance Command. They would surely want to know about this, if they hadn’t realized it on their own yet. If you used a mostly android force, you could use your biological scouts as bait to draw the lesser energy beings into a trap.
Command likely wouldn’t dare to risk such a thing, but desperate times call for desperate measures, and there would certainly come a time when that sort of thinking would be needed in order to win a battle, so the information had to be made available to the troops on the ground.
