Chapter 278: Killing The Goldfish

Chapter 278: Killing The Goldfish

<Ding!>

[Quest: Obtain the orb of the four-horned goldfish]

[Description: The mysterious goldfish is the cause that can bring about new changes. Its ability is of utmost use to the Host. Obtain it]

[Rewards: The goldfish's ability]

Upon noticing Shika's intention to retreat, the Night Ranger System generated a Quest. Of course, it wished for her to fight her for as long as possible. That way, its profits would be the highest.

Moreover, it was also interested in the goldfish's ability, for that would strengthen its host in an interesting direction. Anyway, it sensed that once she obtained the goldfish's ability, she would be pulled into countless icky situations in the future.

Everything converted into juicy Mental Energy for its growth. After all, only when the higherups commanded it would it take charge to go after Rhizen. Until then, it could do as it pleased and accumulate Mental Energy.

Since they needed Mental Energy for everything, the higherups didn't stop them, turning a blind eye to their actions. It was the Coincidental Luck System's property anyway. So, they weren't worried about anything, rather wishing for the actions of all the Hatchling Systems to prevent any Mental Energy from streaming into Rhizen.

Based on the plan, it was supposed to execute its plan two days later. So, until then, it wished to accumulate as much Mental Energy as possible.

Compass Carburettor gazed at the Quest window, smirking as he obtained a clear idea of the Night Ranger System's character. He slowly got up, getting ready to leave at a moment's notice.

'System, but it has four horns. I'm only at Stage 3. I cannot handle its ability.' Shika spoke mentally.

[Host, don't worry about it. I'll add a restriction on it to limit it to three horns once you obtain it. It'll unlock its fourth horn once you reach Stage 4.]

'That's great!' She sighed in relief, accumulating power before activating Night Blanket, instantly plunging the entire place into absolute darkness, causing everyone to be worried.

The moment it became pitch black, she felt stronger as her injuries began to heal automatically. Moreover, despite the lack of light, she was able to see everything around here as if it was the day.

This was her primary advantage. Moreover, adding onto the Night Mask, she was like a spectre, unable to be detected.

Kiek!

Suddenly, the four-horned goldfish screamed in pain when countless arrows landed on it, injuring it. It wasn't a battle-type mutated beast, having neither strength nor speed, not to mention being able to fight.

It was a sitting duck that faced all her attacks.

"Blub Blub is being attacked! Everyone, protect it!" The three-horned man shouted as he exhaled fiercely, causing the dust of burst element to spike in quantity.

Shika watched her skin peel off instantly while the muscle layer too began to pop out like thousands of balloons. She was unable to defend against this attack, struggling when a thought emerged in her.

She quickly focused her Vital Energy on herself, barely healing herself enough to remain alive before shooting a powerful arrow that was stronger than what she shot at Dwun.

She had basically sacrificed all three of her mutated beasts to unleash one powerful attack. She then hurriedly swallowed two orbs and a bunch of pearls, arriving before the goldfish as she condensed a spear in her hands and thrust it into it.

Countless defensive abilities arrived atop the pool, intending to shield the goldfish. But, Shika continued to attack, clear of her advantage.

There was a limit to how long they were able to sustain their attacks. But for her, she had a large reserve of pearls to rely upon.

This was a sheer contest of their accumulation now as Shika suddenly took out a machine gun from her dimensional storage, grinned before shooting them forth in a flurry.

"Kyak!"

"Ahh!"

"No!"

The horned men screamed as they fell dead one after another.

On one side, Shika was pressuring the barrier on the goldfish while on the other, she was attacking them with a machine gun.

Even though they tried their best to shield the attacks, due to the alarm they signalled before, more of them arrived at the place, falling prey to her attacks.

Crack!

The barrier shielding the goldfish cracked as Shika grinned, plunging the spear into the goldfish's head, killing it in the process when it unleashed a burst of energy.

Without any hesitation, she pierced her hand through its flesh and pulled out its orb and four pearls, storing them within her dimensional space.

With that done, she continued to shoot through the group of horned men, changing the bullet cartridges from time to time before she arrived before a pile of corpses, cutting them open to indeed see an orb in each.

'So, they are just like mutated beasts.' Nodding in response, she stored all the orbs and pearls they had, smiling in response as she continued to kill them without stopping.

Even though she too was getting injured, she didn't wish to waste this opportunity.

She first targeted the three-horned man, blasting at him continuously until her bullets ran out. She then threw her spear forward, piercing him, causing him to slump to the ground, "You…murderer!"

"Welcome to the apocalypse," Smirking in response, Shika severed his head, surprised upon seeing his orb, "Awesome! His ability is pretty strong!"

Now that he wasn't there to destroy most of the bullets she had launched, Shika intended to kill more. Unfortunately, she had expended all her bullets, hurriedly beginning to escape under the cover of the night.

Soon, she had exited the clubhouse, arriving atop a building as she retracted the Night Blanket, slumping on the terrace, sighing as she gazed at the sky, "That was dangerous."

Her only concern was about how close she was to death there and not about the number of lives she had taken, something she stopped caring about more than a month ago.

She gazed at her hands, noticing that they were bereft of skin, with a lot of nerves bleeding out blood, destroyed mostly, "I'm a mess."

Her Vital Energy slowly began to heal her body as she sighed, hearing the commotion at the bottom.

In the meantime, Compass Carburettor was excited, "So, this is the secret to your dimensional storage."
