Chapter 654: In My Past (part 19)

The Merman race had two Main professions of Bard and Polymorphs. Bards relied upon sound to give status effects to those listening to their songs.

This included amplifying their powers, nerfing the same, spiking their body’s natural healing power, causing them to be swallowed by their insecurities, putting them under a hallucination, etc.

The effects varied, but the cause was the beautiful songs that the Mermen sang. Those at the Pseudo-Saint Stage were even capable of transmitting the effects of the sound through mana alone, causing them to be even more difficult to guard against.

The second profession of Polymorphs allowed them to change their physique. It was a disguise technique in that only the target’s appearance was altered. Their powers, aura, strength, and even mana signature remained the same.

This was different from the Transformation Specialists of the Lizardmen race.

There were defects associated with the Polymorphs, but the advantages too were there, allowing them to maintain a beauty industry, being respected as the most beautiful of creatures, their beauty transcending racial barriers.

Many took on a Mermen’s services to slightly alter their appearance to make them look handsome/prettier. This wasn’t all. Even spies relied on the same means to infiltrate enemy territories.

The only ones capable of seeing through such disguises were the Divination Specialists of the Elven Race and the Cartographers of the Human Race. Of course, both were Sub-Professions and were too rare in the first place.

Currently, an entire group of Polymorphs was experimenting upon the girl to change her appearance as drastically as possible. From behind, the Bards were amplifying their powers, unleashing various status effects onto the girl accordingly to alter her transformation.

Their goal was the creation of a vicious Magic Beast race with the power of humans.

The girl was a Porter and made the perfect recipient for their experiment as the Magic Beast they wished to create was something that should be capable of devouring everything in its path.

There was a Pseudo-Saint Tamer seated at one corner, overseeing the entire project. He was a Demon Prince, the youngest among the Royalty. But unlike the rest of the Royalty, he was only a Tamer, not wielding the power of any other profession.

Though, as a Pseudo-Saint Tamer, he needn’t worry about protecting himself, having four Pseudo-Saint Magic Beasts under him that he had reared with care. This was not to mention the dozens of Grandmasters from various races that formed his personal guard.

Currently, he was planning to create a Magic Beast that would become his signature Tamed Beast, one that would be the most terrifying amongst Pseudo-Saint Magic Beasts.

Staring at the lady’s changes, the Demon Prince, Tirb Felera gazed without a change in expression, ‘That damn Daka always boasts about her Stomper.’

He then smirked smugly, ‘But now that she lost Gilthru, her influence fell a little. And once I finish creating this Magic Beast, my sphere of influence would surpass her.’

He then stared at the girl, asking, “How’s her status?”

“Your excellency! Her physique is changing without any significant dangers as we have predicted. But, the problem is the same as usual. We’re still struggling to convert her profession’s power into a Magic Organ.” A Pseudo-Saint Merman spoke. She was the head of the Merman group, once a Queen, but now a mere Tamed Beast.

She was both a Bard and a Polymorph, heading the operation to use her powers and create a Magic Beast. If they were to succeed in this, they could create a new, stronger breed of Magic Beast that possessed the power of Humans, including their intelligence.

Porters were just too rare among Humans. And even at this point in time, they were guarded against due to the social stigma of them being able to steal the wealth of others. Moreover, the stigma was so strong that the moment a child becomes a Porter, their parents would kill them.

This was to prevent the Porter from dragging the family down with him/her. So, not to mention strong Porters, even finding a Novice Porter was too difficult.

Thankfully, the Divinisation Specialist in the Demon Army had discovered the location of one, an orphan that was surprisingly an Expert Porter.

“What was her name?” Tirb Felera whispered to the Merman Queen.

“The older one, the Porter is named Yifa while the younger one, the Cartographer is named Yela.” The Merman Queen said, “Both have the potential to become a Pseudo-Saint in the future. So, they are incredibly valuable, especially since there is neither a Porter nor Cartographer Pseudo-Saint among the Human Race.”

“I see…” Tirb Felera nodded before shouting at the morphing beast, “Yifa! If you wish for your sister to live a happy life, cooperate fully. If this experiment succeeds, you’ll live a life better than a King in my country.”

“Do you want the life of a Royalty or that of an orphan like before?” He extended both hands, making eye contact, “The choice is yours.”

“Will my sister be safe?” Despite suffering from bone-crunching pain, this was all she cared about.

“She’ll undergo the same experiment as you. But, if you succeed, we’ll use you as an example to turn your sister into a Magic Beast without pain.” Tirb Felera said.

‘Fucking bastard!’ The Merman Queen snorted mentally.

Tirb Felera stared at her, saying, “I can hear your thoughts clearly, you know.”

“Sorry, I’m just being honest.” The Merman Queen smiled wryly, “If you don’t wish to hear that, tighten the enslavement on me.”

“It’s fine. A Tamed Beast you might be, but you’re still Royalty like me. I’ll not tamper with your dignity.” Tirb Felera didn’t seem to mind her opinion regarding him as he focused on Yifa, “So, what’s your choice?”

“Please…” Yifa cried, bowing in submission as suddenly, the powers acting upon her spiked in response.

“Sister!” Yela cried in response as her mana flowed out like a stream, causing the torn notebook in her hands to reveal itself on its own as her mana began to inscribe words onto it, describing her emotions and the scene she witnessed, like a personal diary of sorts.

And, there was even a picture of her older sister—in her beastly form—bowing to Tirb Felera being drawn on one side.
