Chapter 278 - Solaguer Library
The wind was getting colder and the skies was getting darker. The only thing they knew that was absolute was that the Championship of the Greats would be paused for a day.
This one day pause was only as a placeholder for the actual time it needed for the judges to examine what had happened, which was indefinite.
Elliot could only sigh as he walked back home. He had found himself in front of the library. He still hasn't been able to finish the library quest. It says he should find words that would unearth secrets that was related to the Twilight Bless.
Looking at the skies, Elliot pushed the door hesitantly. For a moment, he thought that the library would be dark and creepy at the current time, but it was brightly lit.
The indoors was wooden with stacks and stacks of bookshelves that stood from the floor to ceiling. There was a marble stairs that led upstairs to which more books were being stacked.
All the shelves were lit up with ember lamps. The lamps would come from one end of a shelf and to another. The place was rather bright for a place that should feel dark because it doesn't have any windows.
"Do you need anything, dear?" an old woman asked him as he entered the library. Elliot looked around to see if the woman was talking to someone else but the he was the only one inside.
"I'm looking for history books," Elliot replied. To be honest, he wasn't really sure what to get or where to go. Since the clue from the quest was about the past, he had figured out that he should go to the history section.
"Oh, that would be on the second floor, on the right portion," the old woman said. But please hurry up, dear. The library will be closed in an hour."
"I think an hour is all I need," Elliot smiled and proceeded to go upstairs. His eyes wandered around the layers and layers of books. It was filled with books up and down, everything was filled with just books.
Looking around, his eyes found an old book with a worn out cover. Elliot looked around to see if anyone was watching him. When no one was around, he went closer and inspected the book.
It had a wooden cover but was rotten with time. Opening the book, the first page was blank. And then the next page, and then the rest of the pages turned out to contain nothing.
"This is…" Elliot trailed off and leaned in. "Do you talk?"
'Connecting…'
He backed away when he saw the message on his Console. It says connecting, but to where?
'Thoughts connected.'
'The book's name is Genesis.'
"Genesis?" Elliot whispered. "That's an odd name for a book."
'That is the Book of the Beginning,' Irus said from his mind that made Elliot jolt in surprise. He leaned closer to the book and inspected the pages. They were still blank with nothing but time as the decorator of the book.
"What does it do?" Elliot asked Irus. He waited for the voice to reply, but Irus never did.
With a sigh, Elliot took the book with him and decided to take it home. He would just inspect the book back in his inn while he explored to finish the quest. It's going to be hard for him to finish the quest tomorrow if he still need to figure out how the Book of the Beginning works.
Elliot walked around the second floor and watched the wooden casing of the shelves. The quest said that the words would be written not on the book, but on the wooden parts of the library.
It took him a couple of minutes before he found words written on a wooden column. He leaned closer to read it, but it was in another language. The symbols didn't look ancient, but it looked foreign.
And for reasons unknown, the thoughts in his mind was going to the Kkeuner couple. Elliot took out a pen and paper from his Inventory and copied the words written on the column. He was trying to copy them as close as possible, but it was hard considering that the words were in another language. The language was so forein that it felt like he was writing gibberish.
"Is this right?" Elliot asked himself. He took a look at his written words and the words on the wooden column, comparing them one last time.
When he was satisfied, he took the Book of the Beginning and walked downstairs. He looked around to see that the woman on the front desk wasn't there anymore.
Elliot gulped and brandished his sword. It made him remember the moment in the inn with Gaston. The man could alter the entire inn's lobby. Maybe he could alter the library too.
"Is this what you want to take home, young man?"
Elliot flinched in surprise after hearing the woman ask. He turned around and saw the old lady there, shaking with old age and offering her hand. "Let me scan the book first, dear. And I will require a library identification card."
"Oh, I don't have a library identification card," Elliot said.
The old woman curled her brow up and sighed. She placed the book down and took a piece of paper from the side. "Write your name and age, I'll list it down for you so you can start your library identification card process."
"H-How long will that process take?" Elliot gulped as he watched the old woman took a pen out. She handed him the pen and paper before returning to her seat.
"A couple of minutes," the old woman replied. "I sense some dangerous magic from around the library today."
The woman stepped out of her chair and took a lamp from under her counter. She placed the lamp on the counter and flicked her fingers, making the ember gem from the lamp lit up brightly.
It felt as though there was an explosion in Elliot's part. He felt the light from the lamp explode with a burst of power that made him cover his face with his arms. "So bright."
"Purify," the old woman said. "There, everything will is clear."
Elliot opened his eyes when the light dissipated. He looked around and took a deep breath, feeling the calmer and more serene feeling of the library.
"What was that?" Elliot asked the old woman.
"A trick I use to get rid of evil," the old woman said. "I can teach you if you want."
This lit up Elliot's face with happiness, "That would be amazing, please teach me."
