Late at night, Shao An brought some guards to patrol the perimeter of the villa.
Two suspicious vans pulled into the parking lot across the street. Shao An secretly observed them for over 10 minutes but could not see the faces of the passengers inside. He felt that something was amiss and immediately sent guards to surround the exit.
Shao An, who was disguised as a security guard in a villa district, slowly approached the van and knocked on the glass window of the driver’s seat.
“Sorry, residents who are not from this district cannot park here. Please leave as soon as possible.”
Shao An said in a low voice. Someone in the passenger seat rolled down the window. He had a neat buzz cut and a murderous look in his eyes.
He took out two stacks of cash and handed them to Shao An. “Make an exception. We just need to park here until tomorrow morning.”
“Those are the rules. I can’t make an exception.”
Shao An circled to the passenger seat, wanting to spy on the situation in the back of the van.
The man in the passenger seat immediately sat up vigilantly and blocked Shao An’s view. His guilty reflex made Shao An certain that there was something fishy going on. He signaled with his hands behind his back before quickly subduing the man in the passenger seat. Guards ran over from all sides and blocked the van.
“Get out of the car now!”
“Put your hands behind your head! Squat on the ground and don’t move!”
The guards did a headcount and soon realized that these people appeared to be mercenaries.
The door at the back of the van remained shut for a long time. The guard reported to Shao An. He walked to the door and suddenly pulled it open. He was shocked to see the person sitting inside. The atmosphere in the parking lot became heavy and awkward because of the unexpected appearance of this person…
At the villa, the doorbell rang.
Qiu Tong saw Shao An’s grim expression and turned to call out to Jin Yang, who was playing with the children.
“Sir, there’s something I need you to handle.”
Shao An was obviously hiding something. Jin Yang grabbed his jacket and left with him. The two of them chatted for a short while outside. “We’ve already caught the people who tried to kidnap the children of the Qiu family, but their leader… I hope you can go take a look.”
Jin Yang kicked open the metal door of the warehouse and saw Xiao Zhen sitting on a rusty chair with a flustered expression.
When Xiao Zhen saw Jin Yang, he immediately stood up in fear. He bowed and said, “I didn’t expect to meet you here!”
Jin Yang scanned the mercenaries squatting by the wall coldly. Most of them were soldiers who had retired from the military.
“Why do you want to kidnap the Qiu family’s children?”
Xiao Zhen hurriedly shook his head and explained, “Mr. President, it’s just a misunderstanding!”
“My good friend in the capital lost his children not long ago and he asked me to help him search for them. Coincidentally, I received news that children who fit the description had appeared recently, so I wanted to come and look for them! I didn’t expect there to be a mistake. I got the wrong children!”
“I reprimanded my men immediately. Tonight, I wanted to find the parents of the children, whom we frightened earlier today, and personally come to apologize!”
Xiao Zhen fabricated a lie that was full of loopholes. Jin Yang narrowed his eyes and sneered. “You’re looking for lost children and had to hire an old granny to deceive them? Do you think I’m an idiot to be fooled?”
Extreme anger radiated from Jin Yang’s body, causing Xiao Zhen to shake his head in fear.
Xiao Zhen held an important position in the government and Jin Yang could not remove him from his post because of this. Jin Yang knew that Xiao Zhen was hiding something, but he could only warn him. “Stay away from the Qiu family. If I see you again, I will make you disappear…”
“Do you understand?”
Xiao Zhen’s legs trembled as he hurriedly agreed.
Jin Yang and Shao An led the team away. Xiao Zhen heaved a sigh of relief and collapsed onto the chair. He took out the phone from his pocket with a trembling hand and dialed the number.
Shao An followed Jin Yang and looked at his grim side profile. He could not help asking, “Sir, why did you release Xiao Zhen?”
“We found many kidnapping tools in the two vans, including ropes and handkerchiefs soaked with tranquilizers. We can confirm that the kidnapping is premeditated and part of the trafficking process. With the evidence we have now, we can send him to military court, then dismiss him and convict him!”
Shao An knew how concerned Jin Yang was with Qiu Tong and her children. He would never have let Xiao Zhen off with just a warning.
“Do you believe what Xiao Zhen said? He’s just here to help his friend find his lost children?”
Jin Yang stopped in his tracks. “I asked you to investigate Qiu Tong’s connections and social background, and everyone connected to her. Did you see any links between her and Xiao Zhen? There must be a deeper conspiracy behind this matter!”
“I released Xiao Zhen because I want to set him up as bait. I want to see who is the mastermind controlling him from behind the scenes!”
Shao An widened his mouth in realization. He gave Jin Yang a thumbs-up and praised him. “As expected, Sir is far-sighted.”
Jin Yang looked up at the round moon hanging in the sky. He had a vague sense of foreboding in his heart.
Xiao Zhen held a high position in the government. For someone like him to personally come to S City to kidnap the children of the Qiu family…
What was so special about Qiu Tong?
Or was Xiao Zhen actually here for him?!
