Chapter 88.1 The Intimidating Demon Sovereign (1/2)
Chapter 88.1 The Intimidating Demon Sovereign (1/2)
How powerful was the Demon Sovereign? Wang Ke had no idea, but he saw how the arrogant and unbridled Snake King had turned into a harmless quail that wouldn’t dare retaliate against the Demon Sovereign.
The latter eventually gave the Snake King a tight slap, sending it flying away.
The Snake King didn’t even dare explain himself after crashing into the ground. He quickly gathered all his snake generals and underlings and returned to their territory.
Only after the sovereign descended from the sky did the oppressive aura disappear. All the demonic disciples could finally stand up.
The Southern Gambling Saint and the other seven accomplices had been captured without needing the Demon Sovereign to act.
Each of them knelt in the hall of Zhu Hongyi’s residence, trembling in fear.
Zhu Hongyi and She Qingqing were also taken to the hall, including Wang Ke and the rest.
The Demon Sovereign sat down on the main armchair and looked at Zhu Hongyi, who had just woken up after expelling the snake venom.
“Zhu Hongyi, why did a puny little snake give you such a hard time? You used to handle him with a single hand!” the Demon Sovereign asked coldly.
“I was careless. Please forgive me, Demon Sovereign!” Zhu Hongyi immediately got up and replied with a bitter smile.
“Careless? Humph. She Miejue must have dealt you quite the fatal blow! Your injury is so severe that you can’t even deal with a little snake?” said the Demon Sovereign with a hoarse voice before looking toward the waking She Qingqing.
“Yes,” She Qingqing got up with a guilt-stricken face and replied, “I’m the one who injured Zhu Hongyi. I was going to die alongside him!”
The Demon Sovereign flicked his finger.
“Booom!”
She Qingqing received a heavy blow to her chest, which sank instantly.
“Pffftt!”
She Qingqing vomited a stream of blood as she flew backwards. She crashed into the ground, then continued spewing more blood. She was on the brink of dying.
“No, Demon Sovereign, please! Spare her!” Zhu Hongyi stood in front of She Qingqing to guard her, while feeling terrified.
“Spare her? Humph! Zhu Hongyi, I made her the Fifth Parlor Lord to show you my regard. But what did she do? She’s already a demon, yet she wants to perish alongside the demonic sect? And you almost died too! How many of my demonic disciples died because of her scheme? She doesn’t deserve my mercy!” the Demon Sovereign said coldly.
“Cough, cough!” She Qingqing vomited blood nonstop, completely unable to retaliate.
“Demon Sovereign, I don’t blame her! Please spare her! Please, Demon Sovereign!” Zhu Hongyi knelt down and asked for mercy.
He could already sense the Demon Sovereign’s murderous aura.
“Hongyi, you have never knelt to plead for someone before. Don’t kneel before him! Don’t…!” She Qingqing sobbed, feeling disconsolate.
“That’s not right. I, Zhu Hongyi, have never knelt before anyone because there was no one else worth doing it for. Qing’er, you are worth it. I’m willing to kneel for your sake, as long as you stay alive, Qing’er!” Zhu Hongyi pulled She Qingqing into his arms, full of grief.
The Demon Sovereign looked at the pair with a grave face.
“She Qingqing tried to kill you once; she will try again in the future. I won’t allow her to be by your side! It’s better to end her now than to let her cause more damage to the demonic sect in the long run!” said the Demon Sovereign as he walked over.
“Demon Sovereign, no! Don’t kill her. I will kill myself if she dies!” Zhu Hongyi begged with reddened eyes.
“Zhu Hongyi! Do you know what you’re doing?” The Demon Sovereign questioned harshly.
Zhu Hongyi, kneeling before the Demon Sovereign, kept on begging, “I know. My mind has never been clearer before. Demon Sovereign, you can punish Qing’er, but not kill her. You can’t!”
The Demon Sovereign looked extremely fierce with the fiendish mask on his face. He seemed unmoved by Zhu Hongyi’s pleading.
“Demon Sovereign, She Qingqing and Parlor Lord Zhu protected me when the Snake King attacked us. This counts as her rescuing me, right? So she has made some contribution… Why not…!” the Sacred Child chimed in to persuade the Demon Sovereign.
It was Wang Ke who had signaled the child to help with the pleading.
“Hmm?” The Demon Sovereign glanced at the Sacred Child.
“Demon Sovereign, Parlor Lord Zhu will also die if you kill She Qingqing. I don’t want him dead! He has been protecting me!” The Sacred Child continued his persuasion.
“She Qingqing,” the Demon Sovereign said after a moment of silence, “You rebelled against the demonic sect. You no longer deserve to be the Fifth Parlor Lord!”
Zhu Hongyi’s eyes glistened with hope, pleasantly surprised even before the Demon Sovereign finished his sentence. “Thank you for forgiving her, Demon Sovereign!” he said.
“I didn’t forgive her. I can spare her life, but punishment awaits. I will not relent on that account! As for you, Zhu Hongyi, stay away from her; she’s a crazy woman. She’ll do anything!” the Demon Sovereign warned, showing clear disapproval.
“Yes, yes. Thank you, Demon Sovereign, for being merciful and sparing her life!” Zhu Hongyi said with heartfelt gratitude.
“Humph!” The Demon Sovereign snorted in disdain.
The man then turned around and looked at the Sacred Child to say, “Sacred Child, you’ve changed a lot recently.”
“Me? It’s because I’m frightened. Someone out there is trying to kill me. Demon Sovereign, this matter has to be investigated thoroughly!” said the Sacred Child with tears welling up his eyes.
“Investigate the matter? I think I know the reason why, and I am also to blame. I shouldn’t have asked you to supervise how Divine Dragon Island’s prison complex handles prisoners! This must be the reason why you were put in danger. Don’t you think so?” The Demon Sovereign looked gravely at the Southern Gambling Saint and his accomplices.
“Spare us, Demon Sovereign! Spare us, please! We only carried out the Chapter Lord’s orders. No, he doesn’t deserve to be the Chapter Lord anymore. It’s all because of Tong An’an, that bast*rd. He ordered us to do it! He persuaded us to work with him!” The Southern Gambling Saint begged for mercy.
“Zap!”
The Demon Sovereign pointed his finger at the Southern Gambling Saint’s forehead. And instantly, the latter fell to the ground with a hole between his eyebrows.
The remaining seven prisoners were aghast.
“So, what is the truth?” the Demon Sovereign threatened.
He pointed to the next prisoner as he spoke.
“Bam!”
Another prisoner died with a hole in his head.
The remaining six trembled in great fear.
“Demon Sovereign, please spare us!” the six of them said in great terror.
“Speak the truth!” the Demon Sovereign said.
“Bam!”
The third prisoner died with a hole in his head.
“Bam!”
And there went another one.
One of the remaining prisoners spoke up, “Me! I will speak!”
“Oh?” The Demon Sovereign looked severely at the last four.
One of them started talking, “Yes, Tong An’an is the one who organized this operation. He has been scheming in the last few years, while luring us according to his plans. We couldn’t turn back once we fell into his plot. Only recently did we find out there was a Parlor Lord backing him, but we’re not sure which Parlor Lord it is. We only heard that this Parlor Lord dislikes how the Demon Sovereign does things. You were farming blood from prisoners, which contradicts our demonic sect’s dogma. Prisoners from the righteous sects should be eaten once we capture them, why keep them alive to only feed on their blood? A demon is supposed to eat humans. Farming those righteous disciples will only make us lose our demonic nature over time. That is why the Parlor Lord wanted to provoke you by killing the Sacred Child, and with this undermine your authority and foundation. We… We were used. We thought we were doing things no one knew. But… But…!” The prisoner explained while feeling horrified.
“Heh. Someone in our demonic sect doesn’t like the way I do things? How embarrassing. That person doesn’t come and reason with me openly, and simply tries to play tricks behind my back?” said the Demon Sovereign in a cold tone.
“Please spare us! We are only chess pieces. Please forgive us, Demon Sovereign!” the four prisoners begged for mercy.
“Chess pieces? You should know the befitting consequences for chess pieces then!” said the Demon Sovereign with a stern voice.
He straightened his right index finger and sliced horizontally across the air as he spoke. The four prisoners were instantly decapitated as though cut by a lightsaber.
