209 Feeling Nostalgic?
[1 Monster has been found]
[1 monster joined the game]
“Huh?”
The black floor right next to Hiro suddenly gave off a bright and dazzling light. In the next second, a spider-like zombie-monster appeared on the floor while staring at Hiro with its eight black eyes.
Hiro was ready to draw his sword, but when he did… his hand only reached for empty air, and Hiro Hiro’s sword remained intact behind his back.
[Wait until the game starts]
[1 new monster has been found]
[1 monster joined the game]
On the same floor as the zombie spider, the same light appeared again, followed by the presence of the second monster. The second monster took the form of a half demon woman with its half face shattered horribly. It had a pair of small wings on its back and continued to flap.
“I know you really want me from that look in your eyes, traveler!” the woman hissed, talking to Hiro. Hiro was surprised by the deafening sound that hurt his ears. However, he was even more surprised that the monster could talk to him.
Only monsters with special abilities could do the same thing like the half-demon woman did.
“He is mine, you shatter-faced evil demon!” Liberty retorted along with a hiss, trying to imitate the demonic woman’s intimidating voice.
Hiro chuckled. Liberty’s behaviour made him want to pull her red cheek. She was really adorable. He didn’t expect that the girl would reply to the monster’s words.
“Yosh… yosh… Libe good girl.” Hiro stroked the top of Liberty’s head gently, making the girl blush again.
[The game is ready to be played.]
[Objective: The team member who can reach the door of the color according to the chosen floor first will be the winner]
[Player must choose the role used and walk in the same way as the chosen role path. Important message to remember! This is not just an ordinary chess game. You might be killed and eliminated from the game if you make a wrong move.]
Hiro arched an eyebrow, thinking hard. He tried to guess what game he should actually play right now. And how could a game appear in a dungeon that no one had been able to conquer before?
Ding!
[White team registered first]
[White team can choose the role first]
[Please choose your role!]
[Queen] [Bishop] [Knight] [Rook]
Hiro instantly chose [Queen] which had more movement patterns than the other roles. That was if his guess was correct. If the chosen role really affected the way they played in the game, the role of the queen would be really advantageous.
[Are you selecting for yourself or your teammate?]
Hiro looked at Liberty who was looking at him with a confused expression. The girl didn’t seem to know how to play chess and that meant Hiro had to think for her too. He would become the strategist in this team.
“No,” said Hiro.
“Eh?”
[Role (Queen) will be given to your teammate, Liberty]
[Proceed?]
“Yes.”
It would be easier to protect the girl if she had very free movement with less restriction. Besides, if it was possible, Hiro would bring the girl to touch the white door first.
[The white team has chosen the Queen]
[Next, the black team has chosen a role]
[The black team has chosen the Rook]
Hiro guessed that the two monsters weren’t pure monsters. It seemed like someone was controlling them, so both of them had a smart enough brain to be able to play chess as Hiro’s and Liberty’s opponent later.
The proof was from the way they chose Rook as the first choice. Also, the shape of the room was a rectangle. And with a role that could move in a straight line, it would be easier to reach the door rather than choosing a Knight or Bishop which had a restricted movement.
[Your turn]
Hiro had already known what he would choose.
“Knight.”
[The white team has chosen the Knight]
[The black team will automatically get the remaining role]
[The black team has chosen the Bishop]
Ding!
[The preparations before the game started]
Buzzzzzz!
,ᴄ-ᴏm Suddenly, the ground inside the room vibrated as if there was a great earthquake outside, shaking them violently. Hiro couldn’t keep holding on to Liberty because of the vibration, and the two eventually parted away again.
When Hiro glanced at the two monsters that were his new opponents, they both seemed to be struggling to stay on the same floor.
Ding!
[The preparations have been completed]
[All players will randomly appear on the floor according to team colour (3s remaining)]
“Eh?”
Hiro felt the sensation of being pulled back and stuffed into a narrow pipe. He suddenly felt nauseous, as if his stomach was turned upside down, but the next second… he had regained his consciousness.
Hiro was standing in the middle of the room while Liberty was at the far end of the room, not far from where the two of them were before.
The two monsters were far apart, at the far end of the other side of the room. Hiro was relieved when he checked the colour of the floor near Liberty. At least the two monsters couldn’t suddenly approach the girl.
Ding!
[Players are prohibited from using pets, weapons, items, and special buffs that are owned while playing]
Ding!
[The distribution of special features based on the roles begins]
Spyro suddenly turned into crystal shards, then disappeared completely.
The room suddenly felt like it was expanding, a change that gave Hiro a dizziness. The white floor that he stepped on was also increasing.
A few seconds later, a white light appeared in front of Hiro. That light brought forth a very beautiful white unicorn, complete with armor and a silver spear tied to its body.
“Wow!” Hiro walked over to the unicorn and stroked its smooth neck.
[Knights can only walk using a unicorn. Remember! When your unicorn dies, you die too. So, protect your unicorn like you protect yourself]
Hiro swallowed hard after reading the notification that popped up in front of him.
He then turned to look at Liberty and see what the girl had got.
His eyes suddenly dilated and his mouth opened wide when he saw Liberty had changed into a queen’s dress complete with a golden crown on her head. She was very beautiful and fit perfectly in that dress.
However… What was the use?
Hiro saw that the only weapon Liberty carried was a staff. And it reminded him of his first meeting with the girl.
“Really? A magician staff? She’s not even a wizard!” He protested the system.
