League of Legends: League of Unknowns

“It’s hard to believe that Team Scarlet holds the advantage now. They’ve still got enough time on their Baron Buff to go for a team fight. They’re really getting a lot of mileage out of this ‘Hand of Baron’.

“All the way up the Middle lane, the four players of Team Scarlet—ah, right, Evelynn’s with them as well—the five players of Team Scarlet are right on the verge of breaking into Team Aviator’s base. Are they hoping to force a team fight?”

The MC’s lightning-quick commentary had the audience transfixed upon the screen, exhilarated. After all, this was a 4v5 game: Most of the audience had already written it off as a loss for Team Scarlet; and yet, they’d also been secretly hoping to see a miraculous triumph, against all odds…

… And that’s exactly what was happening!

Even beneath the chill of powerful air-conditioning, the whole exhibition hall was heating up with the fervor of the LoL fans!

“Just one minute left, and here comes another wave of minions, crowding beneath the tower. If we’re gonna have a team fight, now’s the moment!” the MC shouted.

As always, Yu Luocheng began with a fan of Wild Cards to wear down the enemy. He never threw them directly at his target, but instead sought to trap them between the cards, so that each volley always caught somebody!

With the mind-boggling collection of equipment he’d assembled at this point, it wasn’t just low-health champions like Ashe and Brand that had to fear him—even Olaf and Xin Zhao, who’d been picking up nothing but health items, would still feel every cut of his cards deeply.

“Positioning! Everyone watch your positioning!” Liu Qi, captain of Team Aviator, roared in annoyance.

In the space of a single minute, Twisted Fate (who had a Blue Buff) had thrown out fifteen rounds of ‘Wild Cards’, for a total damage potential of perhaps five thousand HP. Even Olaf only had a maximum total health of around four thousand HP. These harassing attacks alone could already be enough to remove one of their meat shields from battle!

Yu Luocheng observed their rapidly advancing minions, and turned to Xiao Dao, who was playing Jarvan. “We can take them! Jarvan, get ready to start the fight! Evelynn, follow up with an ulti on Ashe and Brand, in the back!”

Jarvan was excellent at forcing team fights. The enemy was obligated to come defend their tower. If he threw himself into their ranks with an EQ, followed by a ‘Cataclysm’, it would be mortal combat!

Team Aviator could sense Team Scarlet’s aggressive intentions, so both Ashe and Brand hung back a little—but Jarvan wasn’t after them, anyway!

‘Demacian Standard’, and then ‘Dragon Strike’!

Clad all in gleaming golden armor, Jarvan extended his lance, and then came sliding in, knocking both Xin Zhao and Olaf up into the air!

Without a moment’s pause, Xiao Dao used his ultimate skill, ‘Cataclysm’, trapping both men inside together with him!

Renekton snarled, wreathed in a palpable aura of bloodlust as he grew in size and strength. Using ‘Slice & Dice’, he bounced off of Olaf and Xin Zhao, passing straight through Jarvan’s Cataclysm crater as though it wasn’t there, as he descended like a demon upon Brand and Ashe!

Their first instinct had been to focus fire upon Jarvan as he made himself the tower’s target, so that they could take him out as quickly as possible—but now Ashe and Brand had to use their skills on Renekton, instead!

Brand had crap items. He’d spent the early game being bullied out of his lane by Twisted Fate, not to mention getting hunted down for solo kills repeatedly. A full combo from him could still have some effect against a fragile champion—but against a Renekton with his ulti on, equipped with ‘Warmog’s Armor’ and a ‘Banner of Command’, he could just stand there all day taking fire from Brand without breaking a sweat!

The real threat was Ashe, who already had an ‘Infinity Edge’, ‘Last Whisper’, and ‘Phantom Dancer’, allowing her to really dish out the pain. Not even Renekton could survive under such withering fire for long.

Fortunately, Ashe wasn’t a burst-damage champion, so blow-for-blow, it could well be that Olaf and Xin Zhao would fall before Renekton and Jarvan!

Nevertheless, the price for Renekton drawing away the attention of the back-line DPS ¹ was that his health was now falling at an alarming rate.

This was when Evelynn, slipping through the chaos of the battlefield, came dashing in towards Ashe and Brand!

Agony’s Embrace!

Her ultimate skill caught the both of them, Slowing them by 50%!

Renekton used this opening to hurriedly pull out with his now-refreshed E-skill, postponing his own death for a little longer.

Both he and Evelynn had a simple task, which was to disrupt the enemy damage-dealers and keep them occupied, so that they wouldn’t be able to bring their full might to bear effectively.

While Renekton and Evelynn bravely held off the enemy, Twisted Fate and Kayle were steadily laying down the damage from the broad stone steps outside the enemy base.

Foolishly, Leona presumed her ultimate skill would allow her to keep Twisted Fate in check long enough for Xin Zhao to Flash out and kill him.

Noticing their seething hostility, Xue Haiyang laughed and laid Kayle’s ‘Intervention’ upon Twisted Fate, and then activated ‘Righteous Fury’ to rain fire upon the enemy!

Xin Zhao and Leona had picked up a lot of Magic Resist items in order to help deal with Twisted Fate, but Kayle meanwhile had been buying AD items exclusively. Now, she was dealing considerable damage to them.

In fact, since she was only up against a Support and a Jungler, Kayle didn’t even need to move from her spot. What little damage they were able to do to her was immediately regained through Lifesteal. Best of all, they’d already wasted all of their crowd-control skills on Twisted Fate!

With 2.5 seconds of invulnerability, Yu Luocheng didn’t have to move and inch from where he was, either. Shoulder-to-shoulder with Kayle, he performed an instant draw and dealt out another devastating attack against Xin Zhao.

When the invulnerability wore off, Xin Zhao and Leona’s combined attacks immediately brought him down to half-health, and all his skills were on cooldown.

“Twisted Fate refuses to budge. What bravado!” The MC said in awe, seeing how Twisted Fate wasn’t even bothering to kite ¹ his attackers!

“Kill him! Hurry up and kill him!” Seeing Twisted Fate’s health dropping, Wu Kai was yelling in a mad frenzy. If they could just kill him, this team fight would be theirs. Now he wished he’d instead gotten something like a Black Cleaver or a Last Whisper, the better to cut Twisted Fate down to size!

Xin Zhao was attacking relentlessly as well. Seeing that Twisted Fate’s health had already fallen down to its last one-third, he went on dealing blow after blow like a man possessed!

Ding!

From head to toe, Twisted Fate had suddenly transformed into a golden statue, frozen out of time!

Zhonya’s Hourglass!

Another 2.5 seconds of invulnerability!

“What the hell!” Another invulnerability effect! Wu Kai and Li Sheng were flabbergasted.

Those 2.5 seconds of ‘Intervention’ had already driven them to the ragged edge of insanity, and now here was Zhonya’s Hourglass’: the same thing for another 2.5 seconds.

Twisted Fate had made himself untouchable for a total of five whole seconds. Wu Kai and Li Sheng were climbing the walls in frustration!
