Chapter 1039: Unseen
Kyran did not hesitate to enter the range of the enemy’s multi-casted spells. Doing so was not to say he underestimated the level of magic the enemy had used because they were all cast by a peak Sovereign or probably even a High Sovereign. The reason Kyran was not worried about being affected by the spells had more to do with the nature of his Void magic.
Before Shaiha took over Kyran’s central core, his Void core would proactively circulate his Void magic energy. Thus, he was immune to status spells and other harmful magic attacks that aimed to affect his body.
Yet, when Shaiha assumed control, a sacrifice was made. In order to ensure Kyran’s safety from those who could recognize the Void core’s energy or magic signature, the Void core’s circulation was regulated. This decision, while reducing Kyran’s immunity to unseen and harmful magic attacks, allowed Shaiha to conceal his aura and presence better.
[The moment I cease regulating the circulation of your Void magic energy, they might discern your aura. You must prevail over them, no matter the cost.]
Shaiha reminded Kyran as he plowed right through the range area of influence.
‘I know,’ Kyran responded.
It would be hard to fight against three mages at the same time, but so long as his senses were unhindered and he could use his magic without any restrictions, there was a chance for him.
Within the multi-casted spell’s area of influence, Uillea and Britta had no trouble closing in on the approaching enemy mage. With Uillea in front serving as their shield, Britta could focus on dealing with the offensive, and Shiloh with the support.
‘Here!’ Uillea told Britta and Shiloh the moment he saw the enemy mage’s figure.
Kyran narrowed his eyes upon entering the enemy’s area of influence. He thought that with Shaiha no longer regulating the circulation of Void magic energy in his body, the multi-casted spells’ effects would have a dramatic decrease. But the decrease was barely noticeable.
From Kyran’s perspective, the whole place remained dark, and the only way for him to judge the enemy’s position was through their killing intent. In fact, even the enemy’s killing intent was not enough for him to fully grasp their position because they were quite skilled at hiding them.
Whoosh!
BAM!
“Ngh…!” Kyran barely lifted his arms to block a powerful punch coming from above. Because he was caught off guard by the punch, his lower body failed to receive the brunt of its attack properly, almost forcing him to fall on one knee.
Ultimately, Kyran managed to endure by widening his stance. The punch’s strength was powerful, but compared to his father’s or Nolan’s, it was weaker!
Kyran pushed his arms upward to force back the fist that was still connected to them. However, the enemy had already started to retreat before he could fully do so.
Because the object of Kyran’s push disappeared all of a sudden, he nearly lost his balance. Fortunately, it did not happen because he had widened his stance just a while ago.
Kyran had no time to relax, though. After preventing himself from losing his balance, he sensed an incoming attack coming from his side. His initial reaction was to lower his arm and use his forearm as a shield to block.
However, he heard a different sound that trailed after the movement and knew that blocking it with his forearm, while not totally impossible, could lead to an injury.
Because.
Slash!
A faint gold glowing arc appeared from Kyran’s side, which was aimed at his torso.
Kyran’s eyes narrowed as he immediately deployed the Void armor to deal with the incoming slash.
Britta’s pupils constricted the moment she saw a dark purple armor suddenly cover the enemy mage’s body, starting from the area that her short blade should have cut.
‘Retract your blade!’ Shiloh’s warning rang out in her head and she instinctively stopped her blade a centimeter away from the enemy’s armor.
Without waiting for the enemy to retaliate, Britta jumped back and switched position with Uilleum once more.
‘Did you sense something, Shiloh?’ Uilleum asked as he prepared to drop a kick over the enemy’s head that had yet to be covered by its armor. He asked this question because he sensed something ominous the moment the enemy mage’s armor appeared, which was why he avoided attacking it and instead aimed at the enemy’s body that had yet to be covered by the armor.
‘Yeah. I feel like I’ve sensed the aura coming out from it before and had a foreboding,’ Shiloh replied truthfully.
Kyran sensed another incoming attack from above and simply used his arm to shove it aside before sending a punch of his own.
After his kick was shoved aside, Uilleam predicted the enemy mage’s next move and used the advantage of having a slender and flexible body. The enemy mage’s punch came out, but Uilleum successfully twisted his body to the side, avoiding it by a centimeter.
‘!’
Nonetheless, Uilleam felt a sharp sting when the enemy mage’s fist barely grazed past his sides.
‘His punch is also packed with magic energy,’ he warned Britta and Shiloh at once.
‘Then, I’ll change the weapon to deal with the offense,’ Britta said, returning the short blade to the magic array that was still hovering behind her. She then grabbed the javelin that was half sticking out from another magic array and whirled it in her hands.
A glowing faint golden light appeared with every whirl Britta made with the javelin.
‘I’ll disrupt his senses again,’ Shiloh also said as a bell appeared on his hand.
Ting!
Another bell-like sound reverberated in the surroundings before Kyran could even do a follow-up attack.
‘…ngh!’ Kyran’s brow furrowed as the soundwave from the bell distorted his senses.
[Sound is a little tricky to block.]
Shaiha told Kyran, her heart beating nervously as she observed what was happening outside. To be honest, she was a little bit annoyed at how the enemies before them were able to fight without affecting each other.
Because of the Sound magic’s nature, it should have been impossible for the other two mages who also heard it not to be affected. However, that was exactly what happened.
[Gain some distance while you regain control over your senses!]
Shaiha told Kyran.
Kyran did not need to be told twice, as he rolled to the side in time to avoid another incoming attack from the opposite side.
As soon as he gained his balance after rolling, however, he felt a sudden foreboding. Because of this, he instantaneously rolled back to the side where he had just left.
BAM!
Uilleum’s fist slammed on the floor where the enemy mage had just rolled. But because the latter managed to roll once more, and this time back to where he had been, Uilleum missed and only destroyed the floor.
“Not bad,” he could not help but comment under his breath.
‘Why are you praising him!’ Britta complained as she jumped with the javelin raised high above her head. Her javelin emitted a blinding golden light as she cleaved it toward the enemy mage who had yet to complete his motion. Find joy at m-vl_em|p,yr
Kyran had yet to recover his senses, and with the effects of the spells inside the range, he could not see the blinding light that was about to cleave his head.
Javelin’s attack pattern would normally include pummeling, piercing, stabbing, or thrusting. Cleaving would only be applicable if the tip of the javelin were aimed properly at its target.
In Britta’s case, however. The weapon did not really matter. As long as she coated them with magic energy, even the shaft of the weapon could cut or slice.
Slash!
Sizzle!
“What?” Britta felt a stinging pain in her core as the javelin’s shaft touched the enemy mage’s armor.
At that moment, the Void armor had finally covered Kyran’s body completely and displayed its full protective capability.
Britta hastily retracted her javelin and retreated while Uilleum stepped in to launch another punch.
‘Be careful! His armor has some strange properties!’ she warned.
BAM!
By the time Uilleum’s fist made contact, the enemy mage had already rolled to the side once more successfully.
Kyran finally regained control over his senses. He was once again aware of the position of the two enemies that were proactively attacking him. His view remained dark, but that did not stop him from retaliating.
If the multi-casted spells were Arrays, Kyran could easily destroy it by punching the area where the formation was placed. But since it was a magic spell, the only way for him to remove it was to kill the caster.
Obviously, the two enemy mages attacking proactively could not be the caster because one wrong move could destroy their advantage of being hidden if he or she was killed. Of course, there was also a possibility that the caster was indeed one of the two mages confronting Kyran, but he still leaned more toward the former.
Since this was the case, Kyran knew the caster was hiding at the back of their formation.
