Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1043: Capture

Kyran did not try to refute Shaiha’s notion this time. While the reason could be that he was busy dealing with the two Blade Dancer Clan representatives before him, he could not deny that the magic energies in the surroundings were avoiding them.

On the other hand, Kyran could sense the magic energies swirling around him, akin to moths drawn to flames. He even felt that they wanted him to use them as he pleased.

No matter how sensitive a mage was to the flow of magic energies in the surroundings, such feelings should not have been possible.

Kyran could only feel that way because his sensitivity to them had reached a whole new level.

One of the things Kyran learned in the Higher Realm was how mages developed their magic senses to another level. In the Lower Realm, there were five levels to a mage’s magic senses. Kyran managed to achieve the highest level, but that was not enough compared to the magic sense the mages of the Higher Realm could utilize.

At that moment, Kyran was finally experiencing the magic sense that exceeded the level a mage from the Lower Realm could attain. Nonetheless, he was unsure if this feeling was only possible because the tower had indeed recognized him.

Meanwhile, when Uilleam realized they could no longer utilize his magic, he endured the pain of his injury and grabbed Shiloh before sprinting away from the enemy mage with all his might.

“Tsk,” Kyran clicked his tongue.

There were a few reasons he refrained from revealing his cards at the start or middle of the fight against his enemies, especially his insta-kill moves like the Black Hole or Void weapons.

One reason was that he wanted first to gain as much information about his enemies as possible before going in for the kill. Depending on the kind of information he was after, he might even act weak.

Another was that overusing his insta-kill moves was pretty draining. It was mentally and physically draining even if he had substantial magic energy reserves and could absorb magic energies in the surroundings like a vacuum. At the moment, his body was strengthened after consuming the Elixir, but the improvements did not involve his mentality.

Like others, he possessed a strong mental fortitude but would still get exhausted. This was especially true whenever he used two Ancient magic alternately, or in combination.

Finally, there was the reason he did not want to scare his enemies too early and let them escape before he could gather any intel about their intentions or origin.

There were more reasons, but these three were the topmost ones.

At that moment, Uilleam’s move to escape pissed Kyran.

Kyran had mostly guessed their reason for appearing there. But having a guess was not enough. He needed to understand more about the intentions of the other clans. Although they were not after him because of his real identity, he still had other doubts he wanted to clear before disposing of them.

Kyran intended to kill Shiloh, but at the very least, he wanted to capture Uilleam. If the latter cooperated, Kyran intended to spare him. It might have been impossible to make him a Servant or a Sigil because of his higher mage level, but placing a mark on him was still possible.

Crackle!

The space around Kyran distorted as he disappeared and appeared right in front of Uilleam.

Uilleam seemed unfazed when he saw him and even looked like he expected him to appear there. He made an abrupt stop just in time before colliding with Kyran and swerving his body to gather enough force. Then, using all the weight he could muster and adding it to the force, he threw Shiloh away.

“No! Uilleam!” Shiloh shouted in protest as he realized what Uilleam intended to do.

Seeing Uilleam’s move, Kyran felt a little conflicted. Capturing Uilleam had been Kyran’s intention, but the former’s treatment of Shiloh showed the latter held a higher position among the three.

Now that Kyran’s sight was no longer obstructed, he glimpsed Shiloh’s features and could not help but associate him with the crazy woman who had chased him back in the unnamed plane. They also possessed similar innate magic— Sound.

The Blade Dancer Clan was also among the clans that supported The Emperor. If Kyran could infiltrate that clan from the inside…

These thoughts flashed through Kyran’s mind in but a mere second. The next second, he decided to capture both of them alive.

Of course, capturing them alive did not mean he would spare them from injuries. The least he could do was ensure the two could not escape.

With that in mind, Kyran did not hesitate to cut both Uilleam’s arms.

“AAAAARGHH!” Uilleam bellowed in pain as he fell to the ground.

Since Kyran’s swords were imbued with Void magic, Uilleam would not suffer loss of blood after his arms were cut.

“UILLEAM!” Shiloh, who was still in the motion of being thrown at the time, shouted in both anger and fear. As much as he wanted to go back and save Uilleam, he was useless if he could not use his magic. This was because even if he wielded a magic dagger, that did not mean he was a combat mage. He was a full-fledged mage and an Enchanter.

Compared to Shiloh, Uilleam, an Abjurer, was their combat mage.

For the record, Britta was also a mage, and she was a Transmuter.

In any case, looking at the enemy mage, Shiloh knew he had little chance of saving Uilleam.

No. That was not entirely correct.

At the moment, there was no way for Shiloh to save Uilleam. After all, he did not even know if he could save himself.

As this thought crossed his mind, Shiloh witnessed the enemy mage’s figure disappear again. After that, a sudden thought came to mind, making him break out in a cold sweat instantly.

‘That is no movement technique—!’

Shiloh’s pupils constricted as the enemy mage appeared before him.

As he appeared before him, Kyran saw the shadow of recognition mirrored in Shiloh’s eyes. But that did not stop him from making a move. In fact, when he appeared, he was already in the motion of cleaving Shiloh’s legs.

“NGH—!” Shiloh bit his lips before he could utter a scream. With his legs cut off, his whole body wobbled, and he fell directly to the ground. As if like a ragdoll, he bounced off the ground a few times before skidding to a stop.

Like Uilleam, his legs did not bleed. It was unbearably painful, but in the end, there was no blood. This occurrence only convinced Shiloh of his last thought.

“Y-You… You have the Void core!” he stuttered as bits of sweat trickled down his face.

Shiloh’s sweat could have been from his fear upon recognizing Kyran’s identity, the pain of having his legs cut off, or maybe both. Regardless of the reason, his reaction was expected.

Uilleam, who was a distance away, barely heard what Shiloh said and was shocked by this revelation. Only then did it make sense to him.

How the enemy could move in the blink of an eye, how his armor could destroy anything that made contact with it, or how no blood came out even after Britta, him, and Shiloh were cut.

Kyran tilted his head as he stood before Shiloh. Like The Emperor, the latter did not say, ‘You possess Void Magic,’ but instead, said, ‘You have the Void Core.’

By now, he was already aware that the Ancients were the ones who created the four Ancient Magic Cores. And apparently, everyone in the Higher Realm, or at least those who realized he had one, referred to it as such.

Once again, Kyran wondered why the Ancients created the Ancient Magic Cores. Moreover, how were they all connected to Shaiha and the Realm Scion? He felt the Ancients were creating the Ancient Magic Cores to produce a new Realm Scion. But if this was true, why did they want to make one? Wasn’t the Higher Being the Realm Scion at that time?

These were only Kyran’s conjectures. A conjecture that he felt was close to the truth, especially when Shaiha, who could sense his thoughts regardless of whether he wanted to or not, refrained from commenting on it.

“Don’t try to commit suicide,” Kyran told Shiloh, choosing to ignore the latter’s remark. “Because I have ways to bring you back from the dead.”

Of course, Kyran was only saying that. He did not know that he had such capabilities. He was not the Soul Emperor, after all. Even if Cyneah was there, she did not have the Soul Core; thus, she could not utilize her magic to that extent. Although Cyneah might be able to imprison their souls inside the Macabre Glacier, at least.

Shiloh’s eyes widened upon hearing this. This was because he knew the implication of the latter’s words.

“I see… So, you have gathered at least two of the Ancient Magic cores…”
