Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 574 Descent (6)

Crackle!

Osric’s body crackled with magic energy, and his glowing light blue eyes slowly turned white.

Tritus furrowed his brows as he felt his control over the bluish-green sea serpent and water spears decrease.

‘This…!’ His pupils constricted, sensing several thin magic threads entering the sea serpent and spears.

The magic threads surprisingly possessed the same energy wavelength as his, which was impossible since they were produced from Osric’s magic energy.

Although both of them possessed the same innate magic and could attract magic energy with water attributes, once the magic energy entered their magic cores, there would be some changes. This was because two mages with the same innate magic could not possess the same body structure and composition.

However, the magic threads that Osric summoned had the very same wavelength as Tritus. How could this be?

The truth was Osric did not create the magic threads from his magic energy but from Tritus’s sea serpent and spears. Mages with an in-depth understanding of their magic were the only ones who could do this. As a matter of fact, in this generation, Osric was probably the only one who could– so long as it concerned Water magic.

Osric used the magic energy from Tritus’s sea serpent and water spears to influence them. It was only a matter of time before he could fully control them.

Tritus narrowed his eyes as he cancelled the water spears. As for the bluish-green sea serpent, Tritus could not help but give a wry smile and thought, ‘If you want to control it that much, then be my guess.’

He removed the restrain on the bluish-green sea serpent, letting it do as it pleased. After all, the sea serpent was not a molded creature from his magic but was his trident’s soul.

RAWRGH!

Osric’s eyes widened as he sensed an indomitable will coming from the bluish-green sea serpent.

‘This…! Don’t tell me…!’

He realized that the magic threads that had almost covered a quarter of the sea serpent’s body shattered as a different magic energy erupted from it.

‘A magic weapon’s soul!’

Osric gritted his teeth as he glowered at Tritus. He did not expect the latter to release his magic weapon’s soul right from the start.

As a matter of fact, mages molding their magic into creatures that were known to possess the same attribute was common. Thus, Osric did not expect that the sea serpent that came out of Tritus’s trident was a magic weapon’s soul. Apart from this, mages rarely use the latter as an attack at the start of a battle. After all, magic weapons with sentient were rare. However, they were not invincible. If the magic weapon’s soul were destroyed, then the ‘magic weapon’ would end up becoming a normal one.

Osric waved his own magic staff and awakened its soul. The sapphire-blue magic stone on the sea serpent’s eyes let out a blinding light, and a bluish-white sea serpent emerged.

RAWRGH!

The moment the bluish-white sea serpent appeared, the bluish-green sea serpent let out another fierce roar.

Its roar carried a powerful killing intent, sending ripples in the whirlpool around Osric.

Tritus did not remain idle after releasing the trident’s soul. He gathered his magic energy and summoned several water pillars surrounding the whirlpool. A huge blue magic array appeared above when the pillars reached approximately fifty meters in height. After which, the center of the magic array stirred as a bluish-green light illuminated the ground.

The magic array Tritus summoned was a support magic that amplified his trident’s power. Normally, he only summoned small magic arrays around the shaft of his trident when doing this, but since the latter’s soul was released, he had to create a bigger magic array to accommodate it.

The ripples on Osric’s summoned whirlpool intensified, and the bluish-green sea serpent’s aura received a sudden boost.

RAWRGH!

The bluish-white sea serpent that emerged from Osric’s staff roared as it circled the whirlpool and went toward the bluish-green sea serpent. The former’s roar also sent a series of ripples that countered the latter.

The bluish-white sea serpent’s sapphire-blue eyes glowed in anger as it glared at the bluish-green sea serpent. It appeared to have been angered by the latter’s intrusion into its territory.

In a blink of an eye, the two sea serpents collided, followed by a powerful shockwave spread out in every direction.

The whirlpool exploded, sending water splashing out in all directions and soaking the dried land again.

As soon as the whirlpool was destroyed, Tritus brandished his trident and flew toward Osric.

Osric was already prepared for Tritus’s rush. He waved his staff and summoned large water arrows that shot toward the incoming Tritus.

Tritus whirled the trident in front of him, creating a vortex-like water barrier that easily deflected the incoming arrows. Using his free hand, he molded a whip that he flung toward Osric.

Seeing the water whip coming his way, Osric whirled around while waving his staff. As he stopped, he pierced his staff into the ground and created a ten-meter jagged crevice on it. Water erupted from the water crevice that shot upward, seemingly intent on blocking the water whip’s path. Surprisingly, after the water touched the whip, it solidified and trapped the latter’s advance.

Tritus’s eyes narrowed. Obviously, Osric had used another type of magic energy to make his water magic turn solid.

This was one of the downsides of a battle between mages above a Magus. Since both parties could summon without magic arrays, it was impossible for the other side to predict what kind of magic attack the other side would make.

Then again, in a fast-paced battle, even if they could predict what type of magic attack their opponent would use, it would have been too late to counter it.

‘So he can also utilize Air magic,’ Tritus thought.

If it were only a simple Wind magic, Osric’s Water magic would not have solidified like that. It actually looked similar to Ice magic.

Tritus smiled wryly as he struck the water that had solidified with his trident before rushing in toward Osric.

Osric waved his staff, and another set of water arrows appeared behind him and shot toward Tritus. After this, he summoned three sea serpents that emerged from three different directions surrounding the latter in an instant.

Tritus’s eyes narrowed. He made an abrupt stop and whirled his body along with his trident. Soon he became a human whirlpool that slammed at the incoming water arrows and sea serpents.

Meanwhile, while the two were occupied with each other, the two sea serpents also clashed from above.

They roared at each other as they opened their jaws wide and bit each other. However, because they were both made of water, they only passed through each other as water surged from every direction upon collision.

Their bodies reformed almost instantly, and they collided with each other again.

From the corner of Osric’s eyes, he was observing his magic weapon’s soul clashing with Tritus’s. He was surprised that the latter could withstand the pressure coming from the former. After all, compared to Tritus’s trident, his magic staff was forged during the Chaos Era and had experienced the baptism of war. Although there were still wars happening in this era, especially at the empire’s borders, their magnitude could not be compared to the wars they experienced during the Chaos Era. It was called the ‘chaos’ era for a reason.

With the advantage of the baptism of such war, Osric’s magic staff could be said to have acquired more power and killing intent. Nevertheless, Tritus’s trident did not seem to be lacking this.

Frankly, Osric faintly sensed that the bluish-green sea serpent’s killing intent was far more powerful than his magic staff.

A thought crossed his mind as he observed Tritus’s trident again.

Could Tritus’s trident also be a magic weapon from the Chaos Era? This was actually possible. However, Osric was familiar with all the mages that fought during the Chaos Era and did not remember anyone using a trident. It was also impossible for a magic weapon with a sentient to be reforged into another.

Besides, as far as Osric was concerned, every powerful Water mage in that era had died in his hand. It was the reason how he managed to achieve a rapid breakthrough at that time.

“Don’t space out.”

Osric snapped out of his reverie the moment he heard Tritus speak. He looked up and was surprised to see the latter had already closed in on him, and his trident had already extended out and was about to pierce his chest.

Whoosh!

As soon as the trident pierced through Osric, it passed through without much resistance.

A smile appeared on Osric’s face as he looked at Tritus, “Did you really think you could pierce me that easily?”

Slowly, Osric’s body turned to water as it sank into the ground.

Tritus’s expression distorted slightly as he watched Osric disappear into the ground.π”«π’πšŸβ„―π‘³π’π‘¬xt.π’Έπ“žπ”ͺ

It was quite annoying to deal with someone who could turn themselves into water.
