Chapter 581 Choice
Kyran said what he said because he knew Osric was up to no good.
If Osric convinced Light that Kyran and Haylee might be at odds, but only the former was hostile towards the latter, Light might side with Osric to detain Kyran.
Of course, this was only Kyran’s guess, and Osric might have a different plan in mind, but that was unimportant. What mattered to Kyran was preventing Light and Osric from working together.
Though Light was inside Kyran’s Void domain, it was impossible to imprison the former for long. The Void domain only prevented all mages inside from using magic or circulating their magic energies. However, it did not stop people inside from moving. The domain was also immobile; thus, if Light decided to leave, it was not that hard to do so.
Kyran could adjust his domain, but it would be impossible to sustain it. Besides, Kyran did not want to use his domain mainly because his movements would also be restricted. He could not move around as long as the Void domain was active. Although he could still use his Void magic to attack, his range would be limited. Most of all, the Void domain drained his magic energy at an alarming pace. And since the magic energies in the surroundings could not enter the domain, he could not replenish his magic energy naturally.
“Why are you at odds with the Soul Emperor?” Light asked after a short pause.
Before Kyran could respond, Osric beat him at it.
“It was all a misunderstanding,” Osric said with a wry smile.
Kyran frowned. But in the end, he did not say anything and only turned to look at Osric.
Osric focused his attention on Light and ignored Kyran’s gaze. He continued, “Another aide of the Soul Emperor acted without her consent, resulting in the misunderstanding. However, my mistress has been trying her best to rectify the situation. Alas, there are just too many meddlesome people getting in her way.”
Kyran could not help but chuckle at Osric’s story. In the end, the latter chose to make Gael the scapegoat.
Light looked at Kyran with a slight frown, “Do you find his story strange? Why are you laughing?”
Kyran only shrugged his shoulders without saying anything. No matter what he said at this point would only sound like a child whining at the situation he was in. Besides, it was true that Gael did act without telling anyone the truth.
Kyran also knew Gael had ulterior motives, which was why he wanted to capture Kyran without the whole army and the Royal Family knowing. He even dispatched the army’s Special Ops, that only listened to his orders as the Grand Marshal, to find him. Ultimately, Haylee found the truth, and Gael’s plan was ruined. Then the latter was marked by the former to ensure he would not do anything against her scenario again.
At least, that was how Kyran guessed what happened to Gael. As for being marked by Haylee, he confirmed it during his fight with Gael at Tracomill camp.
“It is reasonable for him to think what I am saying is strange,” Osric pressed on, trying to keep Kyran from saying anything. “As I said, there are too many meddlesome people getting in my mistress way, preventing her from establishing a civil discussion with his side.”
Light fell silent. If Osric was telling the truth, then taking Kyran with him to meet with the Soul Emperor was a good opportunity to fix their relationship.
As much as possible, Light wanted to avoid a scenario where their faction had to choose between the Dark Sage and the Soul Emperor. The treasures which the Dark Sage possessed were something their faction coveted, while the nature of the Soul Emperor’s magic was very crucial to their plans in using the Macabre Glacier.
If there was a chance for the Dark Sage and the Soul Emperor to reconcile, then it was the best possible outcome.
“Fine,” Light said after falling into contemplation for a moment. It looked at Kyran again and extended its free hand, “Come and let us meet the Soul Emperor.
“You said war is about to happen, but such a petty war need not happen. If you two can reconcile, it is for the best. Besides, when the War of the Sovereigns happens, it will not be good for your plane to lose too many fighters.”
Kyran’s eyes narrowed after hearing Light’s words. It was not just him. Osric’s eyes also constricted especially when he heard about the War of the Sovereigns. It was his first time hearing it.
Osric remembered a talk he had with the Crown Princess and fell silent.
The Crown Princess mentioned something about creating her own army. When Osric told her it was unnecessary because they could easily take the Royal Army and all of the Noble Families’ military, the Crown Princess said such an army was not enough. She needed an army that could crush any adversaries. For this reason, she wanted the Regis Clan.
As for Kyran, the Crown Princess did not mention anything, but his strength was definitely necessary. A mage with a physique that could win against any combat specialist. Even those combat mages paled in comparison to what Kyran could offer.
At least, that was how Osric saw it.
‘Then,’ Osric thought as realization dawned on him. ‘Does she want the Regis Clan because she was preparing for that war?’
“What’s with the war of the sovereigns?” Kyran asked Light.
When True Void told him about the real horror of the Soul Emperor, Kyran had wondered why the Soul Emperor was trying to sow discord to create an undead army. Hearing Light talk of war, Kyran could not help but think that this might be the real reason.
Light tilted its head to one side and said, “You do not know about the War?”
Kyran did not respond and simply looked at Light.
‘Could this be why the faction said it is best to contact the Soul Emperor first?’ Light wondered.
Deception already confirmed that the new Soul Emperor was aware of the War of the Sovereigns. So talking about it with her would be easier. As for Kyran, Light was now hesitant to tell more.
“Then come with me to meet the Soul Emperor and we will tell you.”
”We,” Kyran repeated in his mind with a slight smile. He was sure that Light did not refer to their faction when it said ‘we’ but together with the Soul Emperor. This proved that Haylee did know about the war.
Kyran was now 90% convinced that Haylee was doing all of this to prepare for the war.
Unfortunately, when Kyran went on a ‘rampage,’ Haylee’s preparations were disrupted. If his guess was correct, Haylee planned to activate the Macabre Glacier after she got ‘Disciple Tyr’ to create several puppets for her.
Kyran’s face darkened as all the clues and guesses he made seemed to fall into place.
All this time, Haylee was not going to use his clan as leverage to make Kyran submit to her.
No, it was only part of it. She was after his clan because she wanted to use their souls and transfer them to the puppets. Thus, creating a real powerful undying army.
Kyran was sure that Haylee was not only planning to use his clan. Since she believed Tyr was from another nation, she planned to declare war on the rest of the other nations and find more suitable souls to add to her undying army.
‘But why?’ Kyran wondered while clenching his fists. ‘Why does she want to create such an army for the War of Sovereigns? What is so special about that war that she doesn’t even care about sacrificing others to create her army?’
Obviously, Haylee believed what she was doing was for the greater good. A noble deed. It was likely the reason why Lira supported her.
But Kyran thinks otherwise. Regardless of her reason, what she was doing was genocide. A ruthless massacre. Targeting powerful mages and taking their souls…
Kyran took a deep breath to calm his raging heart.
“Now then, Dark Sage, let us be on our way.”
Light’s voice pulled Kyran out of his reverie.
Kyran looked at Light, who had started to walk toward him. Since the Void domain was still up, Light could not use its magic and could only walk to him like a normal person.
From behind, Osric waited for them in anticipation. In his head, as long as Kyran and Light left the domain, he would make his move and seize Kyran. If Light made a move, Osric could convince the latter that he was only preventing Kyran from using his magic. After all, he was still hostile toward the Soul Emperor’s people.
Kyran watched Light walking toward him in silence. At the same time, the range of his domain retracted slowly.
A smile appeared on Osric’s face upon seeing the shrinking domain.

BOOM!
An explosion suddenly erupted, sending both Osric and Light stumbling backward.
