Chapter 658 Special Ops (3)
Contrary to what Osric speculated about Kyran’s magic sense, Kyran could only use it offensively within a specific range. After that, he could only use it to observe.
As Kyran said before, he was not omnipotent. If he could attack others by using his magic sense alone, he would have already wiped out Osric’s side, just like he did to the enemies inside the Tower of Conclave. It did not matter if Osric was protecting their camp or not. With the Void magic’s property, Kyran could destroy or ignore Osric’s protection and kill all the mages below Magus with him.
Truth be told, Kyran only managed to kill the enemies inside the Tower of Conclave because they were within the ‘specific range’ at which he could attack them with his magic sense. Aside from that, they practically invited his magic to finish them off when they used scrolls and tokens that could imitate the Void’s warp ability.
At the moment, Kyran could only observe as Osric, along with five thousand High Masters, three thousand Grand Masters, and a hundred Exalted, marched toward the Tower of Conclave.
If they were only looking at the total number of enemies, the Conclave had the advantage. But Osric’s side had the power advantage once the mage level was added to the equation.
Hugh, Vaness, and Emery were gathered outside the defensive array’s core. They were waiting for Kyran to fix the array while they were keeping an eye on Osric’s movement through the map he gave them.
All three had grim expressions while looking at the red dots approaching the Tower of Conclave.
“Are we really not going to make a move?” Emery asked worriedly while looking at Hugh and Vaness. “Judging by their movement speed, they will arrive in less than half an hour.”
Vaness could only take a deep breath in response.
Hugh did not respond as well. Instead, he turned his attention to Kyran, sitting cross-legged at the center of the array’s core. A miniature projection of the tower’s multi-layered array formation circled him, and they could only see him move his hands around, fixing the destroyed areas.
After a few seconds, he finally said, “Kyran plans on warping everyone out of the tower. We need to stay in one place so we don’t have to gather everyone again.”
“I understand that, chairman…” Emery replied, still sounding worried. “But the tower’s defensive array is currently down. We are practically exposed to the enemies. Although there’s still half an hour before they arrive near the tower’s periphery, they can still launch range attacks at any minute.”
“You’re right,” Vaness agreed. “Which is why Kyran is protecting the whole tower using his magic sense.”
Emery furrowed her brows as she looked at him questioningly.
Hugh also nodded, “You can’t feel it because you are not sensitive to magic energy. But now, Kyran’s magic sense has covered the whole tower.”
“You two are talking about ‘magic sense,’ right?” Emery said, emphasizing the magic sense. “We are talking about the same thing, or are we not?”
Vaness could not help but smile wryly at Emery’s reaction. He had the same reaction when Kyran casually told them earlier that they were safe because he had covered the whole area with his magic sense.
Recalling how Kyran had been doing and saying things that defied the standard mage knowledge, Vaness learned to accept his words and not ask questions.
Hugh had the same thoughts. Although, he was able to accept it faster than the others.
“Kyran is almost done fixing the array,” Hugh assured Emery. “The only move we have to make is to check on Malia and our guest’s progress in healing the injured. This way, we can let those who are healed go first.”
“There is no need.”
Hugh, Emery, and Vaness immediately looked toward the array’s core after hearing Kyran speak.
The multi-layered miniature projection of the tower’s array slowly dispersed as Kyran stood up and looked at them.
“We can all go together.”
Without waiting for a response, Kyran walked out of the array’s core and made his way to the stairs to the right.
The tower’s array core was located in the basement of the main tower. Its location was too obvious, to be honest, but because of the main tower’s own defensive array, it somehow served as a ‘blindspot.’ After all, it was common knowledge in the Human plane that an array formation’s core could not be placed near another array formation. This concept was similar to how one could not create an array formation inside an active array formation.
But Kyran, and now, every member of the Conclave High Council, were aware that such a restriction was not true. If one knew how to stabilize the gathering of magic energies of both array formations, then both could work without disrupting each other.
Hugh, Emery, and Vaness followed Kyran.
Malia had Avrum prepare a small tent, which they attached to one side of a large tent where all the injured members were being treated. They had Cyneah stay in the small tent while she covered the large tent with healing magic.
She was able to do this because, like Kyran, her magic sense had achieved a higher level. Her range was also several times larger than an average High Master. Although it was still far from Kyran’s range, it was enough to cover a few hundred kilometers.
To avoid distracting Cyneah, Kyran did not warp directly into the tent.
Stella looked at Kyran as he entered the tent.
Cyneah also perked up after sensing Kyran’s presence. However, she ignored him and only focused on what she was doing.
Kyran looked at Stella, who was smiling at him in amusement.
He ignored her teasing smile and telepathically said, ‘Osric and the remaining mages with him are coming. I’ll have to warp all of you to the Regis Estate.’𝐍𝒪𝔳𝑒𝐋𝐧𝗲xt.𝗰𝗈𝗆
If the cottage in the Misty Forest were large enough, he would warp them there. Unfortunately, the cottage was too small. At most, it could only accommodate a hundred people.
In the end, Kyran decided to warp them to the Regis Estate’s Inner Wall. With Ames’s promise of protecting that area, he did not have to worry about any sneak attacks.
As for Cyneah, he would not take her there. If he did, Ames was sure to kill her.
Stella’s smile vanished as soon as she heard Kyran.
‘How much time do we have?’
‘Less than half an hour.’
Stella frowned.
‘I can’t leave this place.’
‘Why not?’ Kyran asked.
He knew she was not talking about how ‘Stella’ could not leave the Tower of Conclave because the Royal Family was keeping an eye on her. It was something else that he did not know.
‘The Tower of Conclave is here for a reason,’ Stella replied evasively. It was obvious she was hiding something.
Something that Kyran found unwanted at the moment.
‘It’s not like you are not allowed to leave,’ he pointed. ‘If you are worried about this place getting destroyed, you don’t have to be. I already fixed the defensive array.’
Stella did not respond. She still wore a frown which meant she was not convinced.
Seeing that Stella had no plans on saying anything more, Kyran could only sigh in defeat as he said, ‘I’ll try to warp the whole tower. Will that help?’
‘Warp the whole tower?’ Stella repeated, looking at Kyran incredulously. ‘Are you insane? Doing so will likely drain all your magic energy!’
Kyran did not respond because what she said was true. In the first place, Kyran had True Void assist him during the times he had to warp things or people out of his capability and warping the Tower of Conclave would be the same.
However, he could not leave Stella here.
Kyran knew that Cyneah was not the only one Osric was after. When Layla decided to ask Osric to attack the Tower of Conclave, it was obvious she was after Stella– or, at least, the current Time Keeper.
After discovering that Cyneah was also there, Osric was even more adamant about succeeding.
Kyran did not know why Layla wanted to take Stella.
No.
That was not exactly right.
He had an idea, but since he was not entirely sure.
In any case, anything that would help Layla gain another leverage against him was definitely a no. This was why, Kyran had to convince Stella to leave with them. If he could not do that, he would bring along whatever prevented her from leaving. In this case, the Tower of Conclave.
‘It’s either that, or you come with us,’ Kyran told her.
Stella’s frown deepened. However, she seemed to be considering his words.
‘Then…’ She looked at Kyran and asked, ‘Can you warp the central tower at least?’
Kyran raised his brows in surprise. Initially, he had thought she would not compromise or even think of another way to stay. He did not expect her to suggest warping the main tower.
