Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 977: The Cause of the Fall (10)

Kyran’s pupils dilated. He knew in that instant that he fell to The Emperor’s trap and trying to escape unscathed was impossible.

He could warp, yes, but he needed to focus his thoughts to a place he was familiar with or had been to before he could do so. Not only that, his magic energy consumption would depend on the distance of that place.

Previously, when he went to Somuli, Kyran had to warp at a nearby plane he had been to to get there. Even then, his used up almost all his magic energy. Fortunately, he did not pass out after that.

Another thing Kyran had to consider was his current location. He had an inkling he was already way outside the range of the planes he had been to. It was for this reason that he could not warp to the Human plane immediately. He needed to make sure if his magic energy was sufficient to make that long-range warp.

Finally, there was also the matter of gathering his magic energy. He needed to rouse his Void core and circulate its magic energy before he could warp. No matter how fast he could gather his magic energy, it would be impossible to accumulate enough to attempt a long-range warp.

All these thoughts flashed in Kyran’s mind in an instant. Ultimately, his survival instincts kicked in before he could fully absorb the situation he was in.

Black armor covered Kyran’s upper body as his eyes turned reddish-purple.

He could not warp fast enough to avoid the incoming doom The Emperor unleashed. However, he could still teleport!

BOOOOM!

From outside the dead plane, The Emperor’s glowing golden eyes flashed from under his white hooded robe as he stared coldly at the expanding devastation that befell it.

Like what Kyran predicted, The Emperor did bet on the fact that he possessed the Draconic core and use Draconic magic to endure the destruction of the plane. The Emperor did not even held back on his magic attack to destroy the plane because he was worried his target might get away unscathed from that.

Alas, he was giving Kyran too much credit! While the latter could use Draconic magic and enhance his physical abilities and defenses, he knew little of Draconic spells to really survive an attack that could destroy a plane.

The plane Kyran was alreadt dead, thus, it could not resist The Emperor’s attack. For this reason, the latter’s move could easily destroy the plane even if the Lower Realm placed a huge restriction on him.

As to how The Emperor could find Kyran after wiping that plane off the Lower Realm completely, especially when the latter possessed The Heart of the Cosmos to conceal his presence, it was very simple. The Emperor was not bombarding Kyran with attacks earlier just to injure him. It was also to inject some of his magic energy into his body, allowing him to find him through his own magic energy.

The Heart of the Cosmos’s ability to conceal its owner’s aura and presence might seem like a boon, but in truth, it could be exploited.

Inside the plane, the destruction spread out, starting from the point where The Emperor aimed his attack.

Unfortunately, that point was the crater where Kyran landed. He might have entered a crevice and ventured in for some time but the speed and range at which the destruction was going was way too fast and large. In a blink of an eye, the destruction was already near the inner cave Kyran planned to recuperate. The defensive array he set up exploded, at the same time as the whole cave turned to smitherens.

Before the destruction could get close to Kyran, however, he already teleported away.

Even so, the moment he reappeared, the destruction was already fast approaching from behind.

Kyran fully immersed himself in teleporting, ignoring the destruction that clinged onto him like a God of Death.

He could feel his insides burning, but the pain was nothing compared to when True Void forced the Elixir into him. Although Kyran was already unconscious then and was unaware of the pain he had gone through, the fact that he was unconscious for almost a month was a testament to what he had gone through.

Kyran might have been training with Caelan in his sea of consciousness while he was recuperating, but even if he was not training, it would have been impossible for him to wake up.

In any case, Kyran could still ignore the excruciating pain of his insides being roasted.

The side of Kyran’s right eye twitched slightly as thr destruction touched the soles of his armor.

The soles dissolved at the moment of contact, even grazing Kyran’s feet. Even so, he ignored the pain and teleported again.

As he did, the destruction was already very close to the point where he was about to appear. His eyes narrowed as their glow intensified.

Kyran barely appeared on that location as he teleported again.

Not bothering to confirm if he gained any upperhand in terms of distance from that one move, Kyran teleported once more. He continued to do this that his reappearance seemed to have become afterimages because of how fast he teleported.

Finally, Kyran gained enough distance and slightly changed the trajectory of his teleportation target. He had been going in a straight line but now he added elevation to his trajectory.

Kyran aimed to leave the plane. He knew The Emperor was waiting for him outside, but he prefer enduring the latter’s magic attacks than getting caught up in the destruction of the plane.

Unfortunately, the destruction of the plane started to expand outside as well.

Thus, even as Kyran added some elevation to his trajectory it continued to cling onto him.

Nevertheless, Kyran remained calm. His feet were in pain, and even his insides were being roasted, yet he continued to focus on teleporting.

Outside the plane, The Emperor watched as it was engulfed in a blinding light of destruction.

Others woulf have averted their eyes from the blinding light, but not him. He was not bothereed by the light and even felt a slight endearment from it. Besides, he did not want to close his eyes and miss his target. Although he did not believe his target could escape the plane’s destruction, in the off chance he did, The Emperor would see him immediately.

He would also be able to confirm his target’s location by pinponting the magic energy he injected into him.

The magic energy from The Emperor’s attack that destroyed the plane might be similar to the one he injected Kyran, but because there was a difference in frequency The Emperor would be able to differentiate them.

Finally, the blinding light started to dim, allowing The Emperor to have a clear view below.

Remnant rubbles were the only ones left of the plane, as it got obliterated by The Emperor’s attack.

A small smile tugged at the corner of The Emperor’s lips as he saw this. The plane might already be dead and destroying it would not make any of the mages in the Higher Realm break a sweat, but the satisfaction that came after seeing one’s handiwork would always be something to look forward to.

The Emperor relished in his handiwork for a few seconds before returning his focus in locating his target.

Half a minute rlater…

The Emperor’s smile disappeared. His brow also furrowed gradually as he realized he could not sense his target anywhere nearby.

His target could not have died from that level of destruction, could he?

The Emperor expanded his search but to no avail.

Soon after, a realm-shaking wretched scream reverberated within a thousand miles around the destroyed plane.

A few hundreds of miles from there, a lone patch of land floated unperturbed by The Emperor’s wretched screams.

At the center of the plane was a cave, where inside was a black mist swirling around a glowing red eyes.

At the moment, those eyes were staring at something just a few meters from where it was.

A peal of laughter suddenly came from within the black mist, which resembled the crackling of thunder.

“I have been wondering when I’ll get the chance to find you, but it seemed… you’re fate is still tied with me… Shaiha.”

The something that the black mist was looking at was none other than Kyran, who had just escaped from plane’s destruction.

Actually, he did not escape but was rescued by the black mist.

To be more accurate, Kyran was captured the moment he successfully left the plane.

He did not know what the black mist did but after he teleported, the next thing he knew he was already inside the cave.

Kyran knew the black mist did not rescue him because he was benevolent. The fact that the black mist knew Kyran had the Shaiha, and even called it as such, was proof enough of why he captured him.

Still, Kyran remained calm. Although his body was in pain, and the soles of his feet were still bleeding, he did not show it on his face.

That was right.

At that moment, his face was exposed to the black mist. This was because, when he donned his armor, he could only cover his upper body. He was too focused on escaping that he could not be bothered to cover his head.

The black mist cackled upon seeing the calm, yet stern expression of the young man before him and said, “Ah… my apologies. You must think I am someone like that nutjob after you. Do not worry, I have no plans in taking Shaiha from you.”

Sensing that the young man before him had no plans to respond to his idle chatter, he said, “Allow me to introduce myself… then again, I have been called many names that I am unsure what to use to call myself…

“But if I had to choose one, I would say… I am the Cause of the Fall.”
