Chapter 570.1: Hero (1)
Chapter 570.1: Hero (1)
Edavia tightly compressed the proliferated darkness into a single point in space, creating a bomb of epic proportions. When she finally released her grip, it released a cataclysmic explosion reminiscent of the one that started the world.
As darkness turned into flames, the two Divine Domains collapsed with a deafening shatter. Countless soldiers covered their ears in pain. Light and darkness vanished from the sky as devastating shockwaves rippled across the world, quaking the sky and earth alike.
The Savior had managed to escape a significant distance away in the brief moment right before the explosion unfolded, but the shockwaves rippled at an even greater speed. What they destroyed wasn’t just physical objects, but souls as well.
The angels in the sky plummeted with wretched cries. The Blood Clansmen, who should have been immune to all damage after slipping into the shadows, harrumphed in pain. The soldiers in Dragon’s Gorge trembled as the shockwaves threatened to jolt their souls away.
Terrified, the soldiers lowered their postures and nervously waited for this unprecedented feeling of discomfort to fade away.
At the center of the explosion, the severely wounded Roel looked at the sky and murmured with a peaceful expression.
“…It’s over?”
It sounded like both a question and a declarative statement. Staring at the sky, he slowly heaved a soundless sigh.
“Mm, it’s over. At least for the time being,” Edavia replied. She floated into the sky and looked at the distant shockwaves. “I didn’t get all of Him, but He has sustained severe damage to His soul. He will be incapacitated, at least in the short run.”
“You didn’t get all of Him?”
“Existences like Him are nigh impossible to kill. It is already a miracle for you to have inflicted such severe damage to His body and soul.”
“I see…”
Roel silently nodded. His body was far too broken down to feel joy and relief, but his heart felt peace like never before. It was like he had finally put down the burden weighing down his heart after accomplishing the mission entrusted to him.
After destroying the Savior’s body, the six-colored aurora descended from the sky and gathered around Roel in an attempt to preserve his tattered body. That reminded Roel of another issue.
“Edavia, how is the Mother Goddess?”
“That fellow had banished Her to the past using the power of this land, but the seal won’t be able to sustain itself now that He has died. Look; the sun is reaching its limit,” Edavia said as she pointed her finger at the sun.
Roel slowly raised his head. The brilliant sun that had dominated the battlefield with its divine might had started dimming at some point in time. Cracks could be seen forming on its surface as it started plummeting in the direction where the Savior had lost His life.
“The seal will be lifted once the sun falls. The Mother Goddess will naturally return to the world.”
“I see.”
“You don’t need to worry about Her. She’s much stronger than you think. Besides… don’t you think that you aren’t in a position to be worrying about others?” Edavia asked with a heavy tone as she slowly descended toward Roel. “I don’t intend to return to that room right after tasting the joy of freedom. You don’t have to live forever, but at least live well for a couple of centuries.”
“I’d love to fulfill your wish…” Roel smiled at her words. His long white hair quietly fluttered in the air as he heaved a soft sigh of helplessness. “Am I going to die?”
“I can at least preserve your soul. I am the Spiriteer Sovereign, after all… but this is the first time I have seen such severe injuries. I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to treat you.”
Edavia grimly looked at the silver-haired man before her.
His right arm had dissipated for daring to tap into Sia’s powers. His blood and flesh were splattered everywhere. His soul had become a mere wisp. He was barely holding it together with his remaining strength.
But before she could make a move, an unexpected voice suddenly echoed from afar.
“Leave it to Me, then.”
“!”
The familiar voice had Roel widening his eyes in astonishment. He could feel a slim arm wrapping itself around his waist and tightly pulling him into a warm embrace.
The Mother Goddess had descended.
…
A peculiar silence had befallen Dragon’s Gorge when the Mother Goddess escaped from the temporal cage and appeared on the battlefield. Two vastly different kinds of emotions rippled across the crowd at the fastest speed possible.
The Savior’s faction was in tatters after experiencing the earlier soul shockwave. Even if they still had the advantage in terms of military prowess, they had already lost all will to fight after witnessing the defeat of the Sun God.
The appearance of the Mother Goddess only stoked their panic. Without the Savior to suppress the Mother Goddess, they didn’t stand a chance at all.
Many races began to vote with their actions.
With terrified screams, the Beastmen frantically fled toward the west. The Giants turned tail and stampeded away. The Angels, Dragons, and Wingmen scattered in all directions.
It was a completely different sight for the survivors of the Mother Goddess’ faction.
The Blood Clansmen hidden in the shadows revealed themselves. The High Elves were so excited that they began skipping around like children. The Dwarves joyfully brandished their war hammers. The Undead raised their swords and cheered aloud.
It was such a miraculous turnaround that it filled them with indescribable emotions. They praised both the Mother Goddess’ grace and the Kingmaker’s astounding feat.
However, the Mother Goddess wasn’t in the mood to join in their celebrations. There was only one person reflected in Her eyes at this very moment.
“Mother?” Roel feebly called out upon sensing the familiar and reassuring aura.
“Mm. It’s Me,” the Mother Goddess answered with a quivering voice.
Looking at Roel’s fragmented soul and tattered body, Her crimson eyes wavered in agitation. Yet, Her movements only became gentler as She forcefully stopped Her body from trembling. She could tell that Roel was in such a feeble state that the slightest tremor could take his life.
Feeling the Mother Goddess’ concern, Roel faintly smiled.
“Mother… there are some things I have to tell You.”
“What is it?”
“I might have gone astray at times, but I didn’t betray You.”
“…I know, I know. Don’t speak anymore.”
Unable to hold back Her tears, the Mother Goddess lowered her head and began sobbing. Sensing its master’s grief, the six-colored aurora descended and quietly revolved around the two of them.
On the other hand, Roel was relieved to see the Mother Goddess safe and sound. Now that he had relayed the most important words in his heart to Her, the last bit of strength sustaining him finally disappeared.
The two of them simultaneously fell silent.
Meanwhile, Edavia stared at the Mother Goddess. She seemed to be seeing someone else in Her silver hair and familiar facial features. It took a while before she snapped out of her reverie and shattered the silence.
“As much as I don’t want to disturb the two of you, there isn’t much time left. You should make a move as soon as possible.”
“You are…”
“You should be able to recognize me if you retained your past memories.”
“…”
There was no way the Mother Goddess, who had inherited Sia’s memories, wouldn’t be able to recognize Edavia, the Spiriteer Sovereign. However, there was a complicated relationship between the two of them, and Edavia seemed reluctant to talk about it.
“His remaining soul won’t dissipate as long as I’m here, but I won’t be able to do anything about the portions he fused together with your powers. You’ll have to find a way yourself. As for his physical body, that should be a walk in the park for you.”
“I know what to do. Leave the rest to Me.”
“I see… I wish you the best. Losing him will hurt you much more than me,” Edavia said before her floating silhouette slowly faded away.
