Then Song Qingchun used the table as support to stand up and walk toward the door. Her vision was blurry, and she teetered, looking very unsteady.
"Miss, be careful…" The waiter reminded her, and he held out his hands to support her. However, before he could reach Song Qingchun, Song Qingchun knocked against the corner of a chair, and her whole body collapsed to the floor.
The floor of the room was thickly-carpeted, so Song Qingchun did not suffer any injuries. Song Qingchun lay on the floor, her eyes red with tears.
The waiter immediately squatted down beside her and asked with concern, "Miss, are you alright?"
Song Qingchun raised her head to the sound of the voice and demanded out of nowhere, "What can I do if I don't want to go to hell? Why must I go to hell on my birthday?"
Song Qingchun then grabbed at the waiter's sleeves and held onto it tightly like it was her life buoy. "Tell me, what can I do to not go to hell?"
The waiter had no clue what she meant by 'hell', but he thought about it and came to the conclusion she probably meant that kind of work. Therefore, he replied gently, "Miss, you are so drunk that I am sure you won't be able to work today. Why don't you call your boss and ask for a day off?"
A day-off? There was a sudden glow in Song Qingchun's eyes.
"Yes, day-off… I need a day-off…" Song Qingchun nodded as she mumbled those words to herself. She pulled out her phone and scrolled through her contacts, but she was unable to find Su Zhinian's number. Thus, she tossed her phone to the waiter and asked, "Which of these belongs to Maniac Su?"
…
Su Zhinian had an emergency meeting to attend to when it was close to the end of the day. When he returned to his office, it was already almost 7 pm.
Su Zhinian collapsed onto the sofa rather tiredly. He massaged the middle of his brows and out of the corner of his eyes, he saw an exquisitely decorated birthday cake box.
Su Zhinian stopped moving and then he turned to study the box. After that, he stood up slowly and walk over to the box. From the clear packaging on the top, his attention was lost looking at the crème fraiche cake within.
The office door was pushed open following a series of knocks. Su Zhinian frowned as he turned around. Cheng Qingchong walked in hurriedly, balancing a series of documents in her arms. "CEO Su, these documents require your immediate…"
Cheng Qingchong paused when she saw the cake beside Su Zhinian before continuing in a normal tone, "… signature."
Su Zhinian nodded as he took the documents. He flipped through them easily, and after ascertaining they had no problem, he walked around the office table and signed them. Su Zhinian handed them back to Cheng Qingchong. As his secretary turned to leave, Su Zhinian suddenly called after her.
"Wait."
Cheng Qingchong turned around with surprise. "CEO Su, do you have other orders?"
Su Zhinian's lips were forced into a thin line. After three seconds of silence, he pointed at the cake and said, "Toss this out."
Every year on this date, Su Zhinian would call her to order a birthday cake in the morning, and he would have her toss it away in the evening.
Even though this had happened without fault every year, Cheng Qingchong was still startled for a moment before nodding and replying with a soft "yes" as she carried the cake out of his office.
