Loki’s Successor System

Chapter 197: Now Way!

Chapter 197: Now Way!

Jin turned his head and looked at Cliff. “Cliff, how come he’s not right in front of me.” [Successor Revelation in 3s]Cliff looked over his shoulder. “Probably a system glitch. Or Benji resisted your summoning and hindered it. He’s outside right now though. Outside of the house.”[Succsssor Revelation in 2s]Jin tried dismissing him but it didn’t work. He quickly got up, starting toward the wooden door. He couldn’t afford for Kai and Kaylie to see Benji.[Successor Revelation in 1s]He was walking through the house, approaching the front door. There, he saw Kaylie, in the middle of the kitchen, getting something in fridge. She turned to face him upon hearing his footsteps. “Oh hey, Jin. Good—”Suddenly a gold ring started to manifest around her neck. A green ring appeared around Jin’s. Jin’s eyes bulged in shock. There was a golden ring hovering in a fixed position around Kaylie’s neck. She dropped a glass cup on the floor. It fell and shattered. Her eyes were widened. She couldn’t believe what she had just seen. Jin? A Successor? She refused to believe what stood clear to her. Jin stood there, shocked out of his mind. Unlike Kaylie, Jin believed what was in front of him: what stood clear. Kaylie was a Successor all along. There was an awkward silence. No one spoke a word more. Jin’s raised brows pressed downward. His gaze took form of a glare. Suddenly, Kai came walking into the living room, rubbing his eyes. He immediately halted upon seeing Jin and Kaylie staring at each other. He looked at Kaylie. He looked at Jin. He grimaced. “What the hell’s going on here? What are you two doing? A loud shattering noise woke me up. What woke you two up?””Your sister …” Jin words trailed off and didn’t continue. He chose not to make it a sentence. Kai raised a brow. “What about her?”Jin shook his head. Kai looked at Kaylie. “What’s wrong? Why are you looking at each other like that?”Kaylie looked at Kai. “Your new friend and partner is hiding something from you.”Kai grimaced at his sister. Then, he turned to face Jin. “Jin … ?” It sounded like he was begging for an answer. Jin finally gave Kai his gaze. “Your sister and I are …””Weird,” Kai interjected, “you both stare at the air and even touch it as if it were a phone screen. You’re both also incredibly strong with many different abilities—which is quite impossible when you think about it long and hard. You both have been hiding something from me, haven’t you?”Jin looked at Kai. Then, he looked at Kaylie. Kaylie quickly averted her eyes, and looked away. She sighed while absentmindedly staring at the floor. “We’re Successors,” she said softly, “we carry the God’s asset. And we are soon to become Gods ourselves.”Kai tittered. “Yeah right.”Kaylie continued, turning to face her brother. “I’m being serious, Kai. We have to level up and get stronger so that we get closer to divinity. There are others … others who will try to steal our systems—so we keep it a secret.”Kai got ready to walk away. “Alright, I’ve had enough jokes for the night. Have a good night of sleep, both of you. Oh and I do hope you weren’t staring at each other like that because you were thinking about making out with each other.” Kai turned around and started walking away.”Kai, this is serious!” Kaylie snapped.Kai stopped. “I’m not making any jokes right now. Everything I’m telling you is the plain truth. I wish this was just a joke, but it’s not.”Kai sighed. He had heard the old man talking about the Successor of Gods in the past. He just never got a grasp of them. He never understood them—but he always feared them. He turned back around to face Kaylie. “I just wanted a single night of damn sleep.””I’m sorry,” Kaylie said. She then suddenly glimpsed at Jin. “But this is incredibly urgent.”Jin heard Cliff in his head, only he was able to hear it.”She’s a Successor,” said Cliff’s voice, “And she’s been looking for another one for quite some time now. She’s trying to complete a certain task.”Jin glare burned into Kaylie. Kaylie was forced to look away again. “I don’t know what to do or say right now. I’ve never met another person like me before. I was just never able to find one.””And why were you trying to find one?” Jin asked curtly. She glimpsed at him. “So that I’m not alone,” she said, “so that I could perhaps team up with them. I’m tired of hiding in the dark alone, Jin. I don’t like it.””Bullshit,” Jin said. Kai grimaced at Jin. “What’s with the attitude? Just remember you’re talking to my sister here.””What system do you own?” Kaylie shamelessly asked.”You first,” Jin insisted. “Well,” she said, smiling, “I own the ability to wield time. I’m the Successor of the God Chronos. Your turn,” she clasped her hands behind her back.”Like hell I’d tell you that,” Jin smirked. “Not after knowing what you just told me.”Kaylie pouted. “That wasn’t fair, Jin!”Jin scoffed. “What is fair nowadays, huh?”Kaylie rolled her eyes. “Look, I’m not trying to steal your fucking system. I’m just being friendly here.””One interesting way of being friendly,” Jin said, “am I crazy or it sounds like you’re trying enlighten yourself so that you know if to attack me or not?””It doesn’t sound like that!” Kaylie snapped. “I don’t want your system.””But I bet you want to take me out,” Jin said.”On a date? Of course, why not?” Kaylie asked.Jin narrowed his eyes at her. “You know what I’m talking about.”She quickly looked away. “Ohh fuck! Why’d you have to be a Successor, huh? That’s not fair. I like you. I can’t just kill you like that. I can now if I wanna b—””Tell me,” Jin interrupted, “tell me how.””How I can kill you now if I want to?” She asked. Jin nodded at her. “Well,” she said, “I can just freeze time, and then give you blows until you die. When the time replays, you’ll just be either on the verge of death and confused or dead already, seeing the lights of the other side.”Jin smirked. “You’re that powerful, huh?”She raised her chin up, and placed her hands on her waist. “Yup. It took a long time to reach this stage.””What,” Jin said, “by killing villagers here at the village for Exp?” He kept his eyes to slits. She looked at Jin. Then at Kai. Finally, she looked at Jin again. “That’s a bold of assumption for you to make, Jin. What made you say that?””Woman, I’m a Successor too,” Jin said, “we think practically the same.”Guilt besieged her face. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.””Stop pretending,” Jin said, “and you will.””This isn’t going anywhere,” Kai cut in. “I’m just standing here confused. And Jin are you suggesting that my sister is the mole?””What else?” Jin asked.Kai furrowed his brows. “Not cool, man. Not cool. My sister would never be such a thing.””I don’t know,” Jin looked at Kaylie, “would you be such a thing, Kay?”Kaylie gazed down at the floor. “Of course not. Can you just stop, please?”Kai facepalmed. “This is all too much for me to take in right now—the head watches are starting to come in. What are we even doing?””Yeah, Kaylie,” Jin said, “what are we even doing?”Kaylie looked at him. “I’m supposed to try killing you—but I can’t. And if I don’t, I’ll run out of time. I won’t complete the task, and my punishment will be death.”Kai looked at her. “Death?”Jin smirked. “I have a proposal to make,” he folded his arms, “how about we fight fairly. Promise not to attack me when I’m off guard, and I’ll promise not to do the same. We’ll have a spar with each other. What level are you at?””Twenty eight,” she replied.’Fuck, I’ve got a lot of leveling to do …’ Jin thought. “Oh, that’s great. That makes me three levels under you. Give me a few days and we’ll have the battle. If I win, I get a whole lot of experience points. If you win, you get to kill me, which leads to you completing the task. Is this a deal, Kaylie?”Kaylie looked at Kai. Then she looked at Jin. Her pale face became crimson. “Deal,” she said. “Okay,” Jin rubbed his hands together, “I guess things are normal again for a while.” ‘I need to level up, so that I actually have a chance at beating her. Even if things go south, my teleportation ability will save me.”Jin started toward the front door. He pulled the door open. “I’ll be outside. Got a little problem I need to fix,” he walked through the door and closed it.
