Loki’s Successor System

Chapter 40: My luck is utter garbage

Chapter 40: My luck is utter garbage

One day later.

Jin woke up from his slumber; yawning with closed eyes. He stood, with his arms to his sides. He was awaiting the presence of something.

When suddenly, that ‘something’ manifested just as he had expected.

A translucent screen had appeared before him, hovering in his field of view.

[New Task: Complete 210 push-ups]

[Reward: +5 Exp]

He yawned again. “It looks like the amount of push-ups is finally increasing. Though, I don’t see how five more push-ups or so could make it any harder.” he drawled, apathy in his tone.

He shrugged his shoulders, “Ohh, well. Let’s just get to the gist of things … ” he started stretching, veering his body from left to right.

[Task Completed!]

[+5 Exp]

[Congratulations, you have leveled up!]

[+5 UP, 1 Spin]

[Exp: 1/20 | Level 4]

[Lucky Draws – Unlocked!]

He covered his mouth with a hand, “Oh, I unlocked something new!”

He was only this excited in that he had not done anything fun with the system yet. And from what he could tell, Lucky Draws in games like Grim have players on their toes while biting nails all the time.

“I’m gonna just spend my upgrade points first … I’ll get to that in a moment.” he tapped a finger upon the screen.

He pressed on the ‘Stats’ tab, and was promptly taken there accordingly.

[Stats]

[Strength: 5]

[Health: 15]

[Speed: 2]

[Skill: 5]

[Available UP points : 5]

From the time Jin opened his statistics, he knew right then what criterion he was going to spend his upgrade points in. And provided that he had grown adamant, there was no changing his resolve.

Essentially, Jin was used to spending his points on defense when playing Grim. Provided that when he did so his health increased, the situation was perfectly akin to a degree that if he upgrades his Health with the system, it would be no different from what he always did in Grim.

He started tapping on the plus sign next to the health criterion, such that his stats immediately went up after every tap.

He watched as his Health went up.

[Health: 15]

[HP: 10/15]

He callously wrapped his arms around his chest; and smirked faintly. “Alright, now I watch as my hp goes up…”

[HP: 11/15]

[HP: 12/15]

[HP: 13/15]

[Consume sufficient sustenance]

Having seen the screen, Jin cursed aloud. In doing so, he felt his belly snarl at him, growling ferociously. “Damn it.”

He looked down at his abdomen, “You greedy fuck. You’re worse even than Benjamin when you snarl at me like that!”

“This confirms it. Food is needed to generate health. I get it now.” he droned, narrowing his eyes at the screen again.

“Anyways … now that I’m a little less vulnerable when it comes to taking hits, let’s move on to the main event!” excitement in his eyes.

There was a completely new tab. It was at the extreme top right corner of the system screen, and displayed ‘Lucky Draws’.

Jin simply tapped on it, and a new screen appeared before his curious eyes.

[Lucky Draws: 1]

[Do you wish to spin?]

[Spin]

Jin had radically nothing to boast about when it came to his luck. He was practically so unlucky that one would even deem his entire life rigged.

What will he receive in this spin?

“Okay, let’s find out if my luck’s increased since I last exercised it.” he crossed his fingers.

Then, he edged a hand with a pointing index closer to the screen. The finger drew closer, and closer. Until, it eventually touched the ‘spin’ button.

Suddenly, new messages began to appear on the interface.

[Spinning…]

His eyes kept to a widened state as he peered with some form of hope at the screen.

[Spinning…]

His pink lips began to slowly part; revealing teeth.

[You have received: Mask Skill]

Jin quickly grimaced at the screen, contorting his face. “Mask skill? What the—” he paused.

Recognition dawned on his face. No way he could be seeing right.

He snapped, “What would I do with a mask skill!?”

“That’s it! My lucky is utter garbage…” he slapped his forehead, and began to shake his head.

Jin constantly tapped a foot on the ground. “How am I supposed to even activate the skill?”

He heaved, “Okay. I’m not the person to rage about things like these…” he rubbed his temples.

He peered at the screen again, navigating through it.

[Skills]

[Skills: 2]

[Active Skills in Use (2/10): Deceptive Delusion, Mask]

He sighed, “Now … I wanna use the mask skill. How do I activate it? Does a mask shoot out from the screen, or does a mask appear on my—”

Suddenly, his face started becoming completely white. It started at his forehead, and gradually made its way down to his chin like an automatic garage door when it slowly closes.

Then, the white mask suddenly became green.

[Mask (Active/Passive): Conjure a mask to conceal your identity from your foes. (Extra: alters as you level up)]

Jin quickly rushed to the bathroom having felt the manifested mask lingering on his skin.

He peered into the mirror at himself. “What the fuck!?”

The mask he had been wearing was pretty cool to Jin despite its simplicity. It looked like something you would see in a Superhero movie. Except that it looked like something only a villain would wear.

The mask had a daunting grin with laughing eyes. It was glossy, and rather robust.

When Jin tried removing it from his face however, his efforts transitioned to nothing but vain.

He tried pulling the mask from his face; but to avail. He tried breaking it; but to no avail.

But ultimately, he ended up removing it. Then was when he remembered that most of the system was controlled by his mind.

And so, when he thought deeply about removing the mask, the system detected conscious volition and suddenly, the mask was gone.

“What a relief,” he sighed, “Thought I was gonna replace Jim Carrey for a second there,” he grinned.

He then left his bedroom. When he was in the living room, he noticed Dobby sleeping on the couch, half his body shrouded in the seat.

Tristan was sitting on a couch. Having heard the door open, he looked at Jin. “Ohh, hey, Jin. You’re up early today…”

“What do you mean? What time is it?”

“It’s pretty early,” he looked down at his phone, “It’s six fifty-nine … actually, now it’s seven in the morning on the—”

Suddenly a screen appeared before Jin’s eyes.
