Chapter 995 - The Merits Couldn't be Counted
Chapter 995: The Merits Couldn’t be Counted
When other people saw Qin Feng’s actions, they all wanted to give him a whack as they felt that he was being disrespectful to Blooming Lord.
However, there was no reason to do that. They just could not help but feel sullen.
“Damn, is that kid using that attitude so he can attract Blooming Lord’s attention?”
“Indeed, it’s gotta be because of that. That kid is so calculative!”
“However, his strength is incredible, although he’s only an S-tier, no matter how you look at it he is stronger than Leafsoul. An absolute monster!”
The others chatted amongst one another, their gazes going Qin Feng’s way were full of scorn laced with a mixture of admiration and envy.
He did not care about any of these, and he then found an airship and stepped into it. After battling for so long, Qin Feng had killed plenty and used up a lot of his consciousness and internal force, but his body had gotten stronger.
As such, now all he wanted was rest.
With him, a person who was not afraid of offending Blooming Lord, setting an example, other people did not want to stay on this planet any longer too.
“Everyone, this place is not safe to linger in. Take the slain creatures to exchange for your spoils and quickly board the ships to return to Omnesflores!” said Blooming Lord.
The others were allowed to sweep up the battlefield and return to their airships.
Then, the airships returned to Omnesflores, all concentrating on Petalbrook City, the planet’s central city!
That was because the person who established it was also called Petalbrook.
There were still some Bloodlust Centipedes causing trouble on Omnesflores, but they were not very strong and he believed that this problem was going to get wrapped up soon. He did not plan on participating. Although he had made it into the limelight, he knew that a human like him from a realm that did not have an Immortal would be easily measured by others when outside.
He had made his play and taken advantage of the situation, he did not plan on staying any longer and went on ahead to submit his task.
What he did not expect was when he was submitting, he would encounter another problem.
“You’re telling me, based on how many beasts I’ve hunted, that would be how many I need to turn in otherwise it won’t be counted for merits?”
When the staff member saw the series of spoils that Qin Feng was issuing, it was not that he was looking down on Qin Feng, instead he found this absurd.
“Sir, it has always been a rule to submit the whole corpse of your kill in exchange for merits. If you want to sell them at a high price, you can choose not to get merits and go to the merchants outside.”
This staff member pretty much just said: You are not handing out your spoils and you are asking for merits. If you turn around and go sell the corpses to a merchant, are you not basically just taking everything for yourself?
Qin Feng really could not hand things over. He had consumed all the Bloodlust Centipedes, what loot would he actually have? Even though he recorded all of it, if there was no way he could receive any merits without spoils, there was nothing he could do.
The flesh of the broodmother was very useful and Qin Feng naturally did not want to give it up.
“Forget it, if you don’t wanna pay then don’t pay. They probably don’t have anything good anyway. You’re already S-tier! We can go to another realm and adventure there!” Bai Li said.
“Yeah, then I’m not trading!” Qin Feng said.
“This rule’s weird but it’s weirdly kind of fair when I think about it, why is it that we don’t do things like that on our end?” Bai Li did not quite understand.
Qin Feng did not understand it either at first, but as the two stepped into the elevator and reached the first floor from the S-tier seventh floor, he finally figured it out when he saw the crowd of aptitude users outside.
“That’s because they have too many aptitude users!”
Bai Li still did not understand, so she tilted her head and looked at Qin Feng, as if waiting for him to explain.
“In our realm, the aptitude users are the ones with high status and there are too many ordinary people that need protection. Therefore, the civilians live humble lives, squeezed into the labor force and have to pay high taxes each month. The taxes are basically protection fees to ensure their survival in the cities!”
“Once a beast wave occurs, that money would be pushed forward and rewards would be issued!”
“The city pays its taxes to the state, the state pays to the region and the region pays to the alliance. Layer by layer, it forms this reward based policy.”
“This kind of decision making ends up with the aptitude users obtaining a huge advantage over the civilians because of their admiration for them. For some smaller alliances, maybe in a few years they would get dragged under because they don’t have a high population and not enough to protect the people. Without taxes, the rewards would be scarce and those aptitude users are likely to leave that alliance for other places.”
It was like that for corporations as well, the boss was the one that gained most of the profit and the rest was split among the employees. These kinds of undesirable situations would definitely happen.
Fortunately, Qin Feng was not like that, he had far too many things to earn money from.
“So, which one is actually good then?” Bai Li asked.
“The pros and cons depend on the situation. At the very least, we can’t manage such a method right now! Look at this place, besides the young ones, nobody needs anyone else to protect them. Everyone knows how to fight, they can take care of themselves.”
Therefore, when everyone was an aptitude user, there was only the strong and the weak, not a split between the incapable and the capable.
The strong would earn more, the weak would earn less, but their status remained the same.
Of course, this method might suffer from corruption or embezzlement as it was not known where the materials would even go to or be used for and the prices start becoming a little fishy. Nobody would know.
At the same time, people here could choose to not spend the spoils on the army and sell them to merchants. That was the freedom they had.
Bai Li nodded this time having figured it out.
After all, their realm was too low in terms of power and could not make things fair. They could only let aptitude users take advantage of and exploit the civilians’ lives.
At this point, Qin Feng recalled Z’s elixirs and suddenly felt that Z’s original intentions and purpose were actually right.
“Alright, let’s go!” Qin Feng planned to go back and think more about this later.
The gates to this realm were also within Petalbrook City. After all, this was the heart of the realm. As long as Qin Feng left the Aptitude User Hall, he could find another spatial gate exclusive to the Human Alliance.
At this time, Qin Feng came face to face with Leafsoul and Blooming Lord.
“Mr. Qin, where are you going?” Leafsoul inquired out of confusion.
Qin Feng had just walked out of the Aptitude User Hall.
“About to leave!” Qin Feng said.
Leafsoul did not respond for a moment, then said, “Makes sense, the battle hasn’t passed for long but it was very terrifying. Thank you Mr. Qin for your help, I will send someone to arrange for your rest!”
“I think you’ve misunderstood me, Marshall Leafsoul. I’m not going to rest, but I’m planning on leaving Omnesflores. I was just here on vacation and originally planned on leaving today. Now that the situation here has been effectively resolved, I’ll be on my way!”
Upon hearing this, Blooming Lord and Leafsoul were surprised.
“Mr Qin, the results of this battle have not been evaluated yet, but you are leaving now? Do you not want to claim your rewards? I’ve heard from Leafsoul that the person with the most outstanding performance can open the secret vault to retrieve an S-tier god weapon. I have already approved this.”
