Chapter 299 Champion of Greed
Chapter 299 Champion of Greed
After watching the thousands of demons pour into the portal and vanish to someplace unknown, Alex spent a few minutes overserving the preparations made by a demon to defend against attacks before he decided to leave the place.
Alex navigated the complex maze of tunnels, his footsteps retracing familiar paths, but all he had on his mind now was the strange way Omori and his team acted when there was no trap in the hideout.
Alex found no trouble as he retraced his steps, using the narrow passage to reach the lake, and like before, he swam upstream instead of using the ground to travel fast because he knew it was littered with traps.
It didn’t take long before Alex reached the place where he expected to find Omori and his team. However, as he emerged from the water and scanned the area, there were no signs of them, and before he could search for them or leave the area, he heard footsteps.
‘What is he doing here?’ Alex thought, looking at the man with a commanding presence, walking toward him.
The man stood over six feet tall and possessed a youthful yet commanding presence. He had long, flowing silver hair and piercing whitish-gray eyes, and chiseled features adorned his ageless face, framed by unblemished, porcelain-like skin.
‘Caden Silver, the heir in line to ascend the throne of the Gold Kingdom, and he will ascend it after less than two years, following the untimely demise of King Corvin,’ Alex thought as he locked eyes with the Caden, who kept walking toward him with an emotionless look on his face.
‘Is it a coincidence he is here,’ Alex thought after seeing no abnormalities in Caden’s status, but he remained cautious, knowing a good treasure could easily trick his appraisal, and he didn’t need to wait long to get answers.
“Do You want to know about my hidden secrets, but there would be a price of equal value to pay if you accept?” Caden began as he stood only inches away from Alex, their eyes locked in an intense gaze.
‘What is he on about,’ Alex thought but still nodded in approval to hear the hidden secrets.
“Yes, I want to know about your hidden secrets, and I am prepared to pay the price,” Alex said after seeing Caden pointing with his hand to speak and hearing his words, a smile broke on his face.
{System Notification: The player has agreed to a contract of exchange, bound by the “Law OF GREED.”}
‘What the Fuck,’
Alex’s mind went blank momentarily as he looked at the notification, and through its translucent screen, he observed Caden’s smile widen, resembling a snake closing in on its unsuspecting prey.
‘I can’t summon my sword nor make use of any skills,’ Alex thought after his failed attempt to retaliate.
“My name is Caden Silver, a prince hailing from the Gold Kingdom silver Royal family, and I stand as the only successor in line to ascend the throne as the next King.”
“I am also a member of the Demonic Cult, holding a high position as a Champion of Sin,” Caden said, and after moments of silence, continued.
“To be precise, I am the Champion of Greed,” Caden said, his eyes never leaving Alex’s.
As those words left Caden’s lips, an unsettling chill sent shivers down Alex’s spine. Yet, he maintained his composure, as he was confident in escaping, and even the worst-case scenario would be his death either by his own hand or Caden ending his life, so there was nothing to gain from panicking.
Intrigue swirled within Alex as he pondered the situation. Why had a Champion of Sin, someone wielding such high authority within the cult, come to meet him and make him agree to a law contract?
And more importantly, what hidden plan lay beneath the surface of this encounter?
Alex had questions about how he got forced into this Law contract because he knew even though he verbally agreed, the worldly law shouldn’t have recognized it as an agreement.
An individual needs to be aware of agreeing to the contract, knowing all its terms without any kind of tricky or outside influence involved, but Alex was clearly tricked into a law bind, and he had no answer for how it happened.
“Now that I have told you my deepest secrets that only a few individuals know, it is only correct that you be a gentleman and do the same,” Caden said, with a wide smile that stretched from ear to ear, his once-cold and noble appearance transforming into that of a sociopath.
“I am Aeon— — –,”
{System Notification: The player is prohibited from lying, and if he lied more than three times, the second individual would decide on a suitable punishment (Caden Silver).} (Lies: 1/3)
‘So there is not a predetermined punishment, and I can’t even leave as that would be considered a breach of contract, so that leaves me with no option but to tell the truth,’
‘I can feel a burden on my shoulders, which is increasing ever so slightly with every passing moment,’ Alex thought about how he should answer.
‘I need to give info of equal value, but it doesn’t say it should be related to me,’ Alex thought after he came up with a solution for his predicament.
“I know that the Elven Continent is filled with Devourer beasts who the demons plan to unleash in some time. While I am also aware in some time you plan to kill King Corvin,” Alex said and stopped the moment he felt the weight disappear from his back.
‘Let’s try to find out what he wants from me before getting the hell out of here,’ Alex thought.
Alex knew that Caden didn’t arrive personally to recruit him into the cult, and even if he did, there was no way he would be joining after revealing such wild secrets that very few should be aware of.
“If you were to reveal your own secrets, I would have been pleased but more disappointed.”
“However, what you’ve disclosed is not the kind of information that even an elder from the cult or higher demons should be aware of, and that makes me only want to learn more about what is special about you,” Caden said, his eyes narrowing to small slits, his grin stretching from ear to ear, only worsening his appearance.
“What the hell are you talking about, and what do you even want from me?” Alex questioned.
“I will tell you what I want from you, and I would even tell you how I forced you into a law contract, but in turn, you need to tell me what makes you special, what is unique about you,” Caden said and went silent.
‘This would lead nowhere, so let’s leave this place before he makes use of some other logic-breaking ability,’ Alex thought as he stepped back, creating a few meters distance before summoning his sword and using temporal beacon skill.
Alex felt his body getting covered in temporal energy, his vision turned dark, and moments later, when his sight returned to normal, to his absolute shock, he was still standing before Caden, who looked surprised but still held his wide psychotic smile.𝚋𝚎𝚍𝚗𝚘𝚟el.𝚌o𝚖
