Chapter 1007: Meeting the Alltide (1)
Closing his eyes for a bit, Valyr took in a deep breath as he went over the various pieces of information he’d collected so far.
Then, feeling like he’d gone through everything a couple times, he returned his gaze to the being in front of him, only took out Vaughn’s talisman from his spatial bracelet after that due to a random thought.
“Are you perhaps… the Alltide?” Putting the talisman to the side, Valyr eventually asked the being before him a question, hoping that the response he’d get to his question would resolve the confusion he was feeling.
Fortunately, it did.
“And here I thought you wouldn’t recognize me.” Hearing Valyr’s question, the being faintly nodded as he showed a toothy grin, only to let out laughter soon after.
As the being was laughing, Valyr took the opportunity to get a better look at the Alltide’s appearance, immediately realizing that both Vaughn and Sellifer did not use the term ‘Divine-level werebeast’ to describe the Alltide lightly.
Though he had an idea of what werebeasts looked like thanks to the memories Vaughn had shared with him from Veldanyr’s past, the Alltide looked vastly different from all of the werebeasts in those memories.
Taking on the form of a werewolf, the Alltide spanned a height of at least four meters, its maw terrifying large enough for Valyr to imagine himself being devoured whole by the Alltide before he could even react.
Sporting a pair of light blue eyes, most of the fur covering the Alltide’s body were dark gray in color, with the only exception to that being the fur covering his face and his upper torso.
With those parts of the Alltide’s body taking on a light gray color, Valyr briefly thought that the Alltide looked more like an exotic dog breed rather than a wolf, only to discard those thoughts soon after as he felt the being’s aura wash over his body once more.
Feeling the faint pressure that was pushing down on him because of the aura, Valyr swiftly recalled the imposing aura Sellifer’s true body radiated back in the Void World.
Then, using the aura she’d briefly left unsuppressed as his reference point, the young man surmised that the Alltide would probably weaker than Sellifer, even if the former were to go all out.
‘I’m sure he’s reining in his aura right now because of me,’ thought Valyr to himself, noticing that the Alltide was now looking at him with interest. ‘Then again, the aura he’s exuding right now is already stronger than the aura Vaughn’s memory extension showed.’
Oblivious to what was going in the young man’s head, the Alltide had a faint smile on his face as he stood up to move closer to him. “I suppose you have a lot of questions in your mind right now, which I am partly to blame for.”
“With that, ask any questions you have, and I shall respond to the best of my abilities.”
Distracted by the realization that the Alltide was actually wearing a pair of dark shorts, it took a while for Valyr to regain his bearings as he made full use of the opportunity to answer the queries in his mind. “You’re the one who brought me here… right?”
“That’s correct.” The Alltide nodded, resting on the corner of his table. “I used the curse that I’ve implanted on you to show you the directions to this place.”
Feeling like the veil covering the entire mystery in his mind was slowly being removed, Valyr felt a hint of trepidation as he decided to take his chances to ask the questions he had in mind that would remove the veil completely.
“The curse… did you put it on me because I used the body of that Prodigious Lesser Tidemother to strengthen my spear?”
“Or was it for a different reason?”
Watching the Alltide’s reaction with bated breath, Valyr soon released his breath as he listened to his response.
“It’s to keep an eye on you,” said the Alltide, making Valyr feel as if a burden was slowly being lifted off his shoulders as he continued to listen.
Shrugging his shoulders, the Alltide had a nonchalant expression as he spoke. “To be honest, I don’t care that much on what you do with the Tidemothers. I just made them on a whim back then because I wanted to expand my powers as a werebeast.”
“Then again, having those things around has definitely helped me forge a connection with you through the curse.” The Alltide grinned with pride. “Thankfully, you decided to make use of that Greater Tidemother as well.”
“We wouldn’t be interacting right now if not for that.”
Taking a deep breath to compose his thoughts, Valyr felt like he was just one step away from truly answering the mystery that was on his mind.
With that, he suppressed the eagerness he was feeling as he asked the Alltide the question that he felt would finally put the matter to an end.
“So… does that mean you intentionally put the curse on me?”
As this question left Valyr’s mouth, the young man thought it would take a while for the
Alltide to come up with an answer that would satisfy him.
Yet, surprisingly, the Alltide merely nodded in response.
“Pretty much,” replied the Alltide to Valyr’s question. “Ever since you used those vials of Tidemother blood to improve your spear, I was alerted to your presence.”
“Curious, I kept an eye on your journey, only to feel more and more certain that you were the one I was looking for.”
“Seeing that you planned on transforming your spear once more with the blood of the Prodigious Lesser Tidemother, I decided to manipulate a couple of things with my own
hands.”
“Of course, the result of that is the mark that’s on your back to this day.”
Though he was relieved that the confusion regarding the Mark of the Alltide and his spear had finally been dispelled, a different kind of emotion took over the young man the moment he listened to the Alltide’s explanation.
He did not know whether it was disgust, or anger, or some other negative emotion. However, if one thing’s for sure, it was the fact that he did not like the feeling the Alltide had given him.
The feeling that he was being led down to this moment all this time.
Taking in a deep breath, Valyr pushed those thoughts to the side for the meantime, deciding
to ask the Alltide a question that seemed obvious to ask next in his position.
“Why go through all that to catch my attention?”
“Why me?”
“Haven’t I already mentioned it earlier?” Seemingly unbothered by what Valyr was feeling at the moment, the Alltide continued to adorn a faint smile as he looked at the young man in the
eyes.
“I’ve chosen you to become my successor.”
“The Alltide’s successor.”
