As Valyr went ahead and took a look at his notifications, the young man was immediately greeted by the sight of a plethora of kill confirmations, causing him to pause as he read through them in great detail.
“…Huh.” By the time he was done going through them, Valyr’s eyes widened in slight disbelief, surprised that the system considered the entity he killed to be 25 separate entities.
‘Hmm…’ Slightly furrowing his brows, the young man pondered over why the system classified the entity that way. ‘A creature with backup bodies, perhaps? Or is it a hive mind of some sort?’
At the same time, he thought about how the effects from the Partial Mark of the Alltide hadn’t activated while he fought the entity at all, recalling how the entity didn’t revive shortly after The landed the final blow.
Slightly confused as to why that was the case, Valyr went ahead and brought up the
description of the mark in his mind, only to immediately come up with a hypothesis as to why it did not activate.
‘Is it because the entity isn’t considered either a beast or a monster?’ thought the young man to himself, eventually feeling like his hypothesis was the answer he was looking for.
After all, if the entity were either a beast or a monster, then it wouldn’t have the ability to talk with Marcus while it was bound in chains made out of pure Mystic Energy.
‘Then again… some beasts and monsters also have the ability to talk,’ inwardly muttered the young man to himself, deciding not to think about the matter any further.
Either way, the young man was satisfied with the amount of XP he’d gained from killing the entity, seeing as it allowed him to recover a huge chunk of the XP he used to push his level to the peak of Rank 4.
‘Pretty neat with all things considered,’ thought the young man to himself, only to inwardly let out a sigh soon after. ‘On the other hand, spending almost 4 billion XP just to push myself to the max level of Rank 4 isn’t neat.’
‘Originally, that would’ve only began to run out after I became a Myth, even if I were to take into consideration using XP to upgrade my skills.’ Valyr inwardly let out yet another sigh. ‘A shame the heavens above seem to have a different plan laid out for me.’
Other than the notifications regarding the kill confirmation, Valyr also received notifications involving his progress in upgrading [Slayer of Ascendants], smiling as he noticed that he was closing in on reaching a tenth of the total value needed.
‘It’ll be a while before I get to 10,000 kills, ‘ inwardly muttered the young man to himself, only to continue looking through the notifications he’d received from killing the entity.
“Hmm?”
Raising his eyebrow as he reached the end of the list of notifications, Valyr had a slight look of confusion on his face as he focused his attention on a couple of notifications he received.
Ding!
[You have defeated an intruder of the Mystic Plane.]
[You have absorbed the strength of the intruder.]
[Your Mystic Energy has improved by 269 points.]
‘I gained Mystic Energy?’ Going through these notifications over and over again, the look of confusion on the young man’s face gradually deepened. ‘But wasn’t the entity part of something called the Extreme Toxic Plane?’
Wanting to know what was going on, the young man moved his notification screen to the side for the meantime before heading to where Mystia and Marcus were.
Oblivious to the fact that they stepped back the moment he showed an overwhelming level of power for his rank, he went up to the man with an expression filled with both curiosity and confusion before opening his mouth. “Say, Marcus.”
“Yeah?” Recalling the power he’d witnessed from Valyr just earlier, it took a while for Marcus to snap back to reality, only responding after a brief silence. “What’s up?”
“The entity I killed was from the Extreme Toxic Plane, right?” asked Valyr, causing Marcus’ expression to relax as he nodded in response.
“Yeah. What about it?”
“Well, I received a notification from the system that I gained Mystic Energy after killing it,” replied the young man as he looked at Marcus with slight expectation. “Do you perhaps know why?”
“Hmm…?” In response, Marcus rubbed his chin for a bit as he mulled over the question Valyr asked him.
Fortunately, it did not take long for the answer Valyr wanted to appear in Marcus’ mind, pushing the gears in his mind to turn as much as possible as he opened his mouth. “Ah. It was that feature.”
“Remember how I said sometime ago that a lot of planes target the Mystic Plane since absorbing the plane would give them strength?”
“I think you did,” replied Valyr after a bit of silence, somewhat unsure whether the man before him really did talk about it at some point. “Anyways, what are you trying to say?”
“What I’m trying to say is that… just like how they attack the Mystic Plane to obtain greater strength, we could attack the other planes to improve the Mystic Plane’s strength,” said Marcus in response, causing Valyr’s eyes to widen as it clicked in his mind.
“As the Guardian of the Mystic Plane, that effect is more pronounced, allowing you to benefit from killing beings of other planes far more than we would,” continued the man. “That’s
probably why you gained a good chunk of Mystic Energy.”
“So, you could say that the Mystic Plane converted the energy within the entity I killed into strength for the two of us?”
“Pretty much, yeah.” Marcus nodded in response to Valyr’s question.
“I see.” Valyr nodded back, only to sport a confused expression not long after. “Wait a minute… how do I improve the amount of Mystic Energy I have, then? Can I only gain Mystic Energy by kill those that target the Mystic Plane as its Guardian?”
“You could,” said Marcus in response, only to shake his head soon after. “But that’s not really
advisable.”
“Mystic Energy isn’t really an offense-oriented energy like the Shadow Energy you could wield,” continued Mystia where Marcus left off, showcasing her greater knowledge towards the latter. “With that being said, gaining Mystic Energy is simpler than you think.”
“You just have to sit on the ground, close your eyes, and slowly absorb the ambient Mystic Energy in the surroundings into your body.”
As those words left Mystia’s mouth, she soon went ahead and did a demonstration for the young man, going through the steps she mentioned before letting out a calm exhale
sometime later.
Whoosh!
Within a few seconds of her closing her eyes, a large amount of Mystic Energy began to manifest around her, only to then revolve around her as if she were the eye of a massive
storm.
Fortunately, the large mass of Mystic Energy did not affect the surroundings whatsoever, instead slowly making their way towards Mystia’s body as she absorbed the motes of Mystic
Energy that came close to her one by one.
Swoosh!
Watching as the motes making up the maelstrom of Mystic Energy around Mystia were gradually being absorbed by her, Valyr focused all of his attention towards the entire demonstration, committing every step to memory as he went through the process in his mind. With that, by the time Mystia stopped absorbing Mystic Energy from the surroundings, the young man decided to try his hand at absorbing, sitting cross-legged on the ground before
taking in a deep breath.
“Huuu…” Then, closing his eyes, he gradually attuned himself to the Mystic Energy in his surroundings, slowly feeling the energy around him become more tangible by the second.
Whoosh!
After some time, a considerable amount of Mystic Energy appeared around the young man’s body, causing Mystia to widen her eyes in slight surprise as she recalled the first time she attempted to absorb Mystic Energy in her body.
“If I remember correctly, you were only able to manifest around a quarter of what Valyr just manifested the first time you did it,” said Marcus as he glanced at Mystia, getting an idea of what was going on in her mind.
“Then again, you were at the peak of Rank 2 when you tried it for the first time,” he
continued.
“Even if we take that into consideration, he still caused a lot more Mystic Energy in the surroundings to manifest in his first attempt,” replied Mystia with her gaze still fixated on
the young man’s actions.
Swoosh!
Seeing as part of the Mystic Energy started to begin moving towards Valyr’s body, a faint smile began to appear on Mystia’s face the moment she saw the young man absorb motes of
Mystic Energy.
“It seems we’ll be staying here for a while.” Getting the feeling that Valyr planned on
absorbing all of the Mystic Energy he manifested, Marcus decided to give Mystia a heads-up.
“Do you have any plans other than this?”
“Not really.” Surprisingly, Mystia didn’t mind. “Though, I did plan on making him the plane’s Guardian, if ever that were to fail, I still planned on bringing him to the Mystic Plane to improve the amount of Mystic Energy I’ve given him.”
“However, now that I’ve caught a glimpse of his affinity with Mystic Energy…”
“I suppose it won’t be too hard to teach him a thing or two on how to properly use it.”
