Chapter 1057: Expanding Possibilities
Chapter 1057: Expanding Possibilities
“Wow…” Hearing the system send a notification to him all of a sudden, Valyr took a while to understand what was going on, opening up his notification screen the moment everything clicked.
Seeing that the system confirm with him that he had obtained a second subclass slot, a look of surprise briefly appeared on the young man’s face as he shifted his gaze towards Marcus. Seemingly proud of what he’d done, Marcus looked back at the young man with a wide smile, showing off the authority and prestige that the Overseer of a concept plane held.
However, that image swiftly died down as the man returned to his usual level of strength not long after, only for it to regress to an even lower level of strength sometime after.
“Don’t worry.” Noticing the looks of concern that were on Mystia and Valyr’s faces at that moment, Marcus went ahead and reassured them that he’d be fine, reminding them that his current condition was temporary. “This is a decision I made on my own.”
Feeling both gratitude and guilt as he listened to the man’s words, Valyr inwardly let out a sigh as he briefly acquainted himself with what he received from both Mystia and Marcus’ gratitude.
Though the entire process of bestowing him a second subclass slot happened in less than an instant to the young man, with enough pondering, Valyr was eventually able to recall the faint sensation he felt from Marcus before the system responded.
In a way, the sensation felt a bit similar to the Mystic Energy he wielded whenever he used to gain insight into a field he did not know much of.
At first, Valyr wondered as to why that was the case, seeing as the two had no connection whatsoever.
Fortunately, it did not take long for an idea to pop up in his mind, feeling as if the idea he had was the best way to describe the exact sensation he felt.
‘Omniscience…’ inwardly murmured Valyr to himself at the thought, realizing that there was a connection between the two in the first place.
After all, with his Mystic Energy taking on that purpose, he did feel like he’d gained insight and knowledge towards that field at a level that even those who’ve spent their entire lives on it wouldn’t reach.
On the other hand, the thing that Marcus threw at him at the very last moment gave off a similar kind of energy, giving him the feeling that merely looking at it would give him insight and knowledge to the secrets of the universe.
Shaking his head to remove all of the errant thoughts in his mind, Valyr went ahead and focused his attention to the notification that he’d received earlier, prompting him to look at Marcus and Mystia after that.
“All I need to do now is accept the prompt you gave me earlier, right?” asked the young man, his gaze questioning as he looked at Marcus.
“Yeah. It should be that simple.” Marcus nodded, only to bitterly smile at Valyr soon after. “Though, I do have to apologize in advance.”
Seeing the young man raise his eyebrow in response to his words, the man explained himself. “Although I was successful in giving you a second subclass slot, there are a few caveats to it that I was made aware of since I’ve only temporarily boosted my strength.”
“If the Mystic Plane were a true middle concept plane, or was closer to becoming a middle concept plane, then perhaps I wouldn’t have mentioned this to you.” At these words, Marcus looked at Valyr with an apologetic expression.
“What caveats are there?” In response, Valyr reassured him that he’d done all that he could, and that he was thankful for being able to get his hands on an additional subclass slot in the first place.
Not wanting the man to dwell on the thought any further, the young man quickly shifted the topic, somewhat curious whether the caveats Marcus was talking about were severe or not.
“As far as I know, the second subclass slot has a hard cap on how high of a rarity its subclass could reach,” replied Marcus after some time. “In any case, it would’ve been at a level that neither you, nor I would even possibly reach.”
“However…” The man could not help but let out a sigh. “Because of my hasty actions, that hard limit was lowered down to Rare grade.”
As these words left Marcus’ mouth, the man imagined Valyr becoming mad at him in response, though he was unsure where he’d gotten that thought in the first place.
Though, in reality, the response he got from the young man was the exact opposite.
“That’s all?” Valyr let out a faint sigh of relief at the man’s words, having already prepared himself for multiple worst-case scenarios that made sense for an additional subclass slot to have.
Then again, even if those worst-case scenarios were to become reality, the young man would still feel like the additional subclass slot was more than worth it with the caveats.
After all, he’d still gain more strength from it either way. Plus, the need for him to complete the special quest the system gave him was lessened because of it.
‘Nevertheless, I still plan on completing it at some point,’ thought Valyr to himself, wondering if there were some loopholes he could use to keep it while also having the Mystic Rune Alchemist subclass.
Of course, that was because, just like his current subclass, the subclass that the special quest would give him was also a Growth-type subclass.
‘Speaking of which, isn’t Mystic Rune Alchemist also Growth-type?’ asked the young man to himself, recalling Mystia’s words of persuasion from earlier.
With that, he pushed his thoughts to the side for the meantime, assuring Marcus that the caveats the man mentioned were something he could accept.
Only after he was certain the man had gotten over the issue did Valyr finally accept the prompt Marcus gave him earlier, immediately feeling a wave of strength wash over his body not long
after.
Ding!
[You have obtained the subclass ‘Mystic Rune Alchemist (Common – Growth)’.]
[Due to your first subclass slot already being occupied, the subclass you’ve received has been placed on the second subclass slot.]
[Note that the stat gain of second subclasses are only 80% effective compared to first subclasses.]
Hearing the notifications go off in his mind, it went without saying that Valyr went ahead and opened them up, wanting to acquaint himself with the information that came along with
getting a second subclass.
With that in mind, the part where he was told he’d gain less stats from a second subclass caused his eyes to slightly widen in surprise, though he did feel not long after that something like that was par for the course.
‘…Considering how it’s entirely possible for someone to start off with a Divine-grade Rank 1 class, this definitely seems like a vain effort from the system to enforce balance,’ thought the young man to himself, though he still shuddered at the thought of someone having two high- rarity subclasses that weren’t affected by the loss in efficacy.
If they were at the peak of Rank 5, then Valyr was more than certain that they’d be able to contend against Myth-level beings at their normal state.
And if they were to empower themselves with various skills?
‘Perhaps even those beyond the limit of what Veldanyr could handle would tremble under that
person.’
Returning his attention to the notifications that were constantly popping up in his mind,
Valyr glossed over the part where it contained the stats and skills he’d gained from the subclass, feeling like it was something better saved for later.
Instead, he focused his attention on a couple of notifications he didn’t expect to receive, causing him to raise his eyebrows in slight confusion as he read through them in detail.
Ding!
[You are the 336th person in the planet of Veldanyr to obtain a second subclass!]
[Due to this feat, you’ve obtained the title ‘Expanded Possibilities – 4th Phase (Veldanyr)’.]
‘Wait… there’s over 300 people in Veldanyr that have a second subclass?’ Taking all the time he needed to process the information he just read, Valyr soon began to tremble in fear as the thought finally clicked with him.
After all, from what he could recall in his past life, only a couple million out of the entire player base had access to a second subclass, considering that the minimum level of strength needed to find a way to obtain one was at the Myth level.
With that in mind, the young man felt that it only made sense that the number of beings throughout the universe who’d obtained a second subclass was a far higher number than that.
Of course, that wasn’t only from the perspective of the total population of the universe, but also from the perspective of these same beings having wider access to knowledge compared to the players who needed to start fresh.
Yet, among all of the beings in the universe that got their hands on their second subclass, over 300 of them were in Veldanyr.
At first glance, this information did not seem all that shocking, considering that the universe contained millions, if not billions of planets that housed life.
However, Greater Beyond classified Veldanyr as a starter planet, a planet that would allow players to gradually acclimate to the vast expanse of the universe.
With that, although there was beings within the planet that had transcended mortality, the general level of strength throughout the planet was still below the Myth-level.
And that part was what stood out in the young man’s mind.
After all, it meant that… out of all the beings in the universe that obtained a second subclass,
300 of them possibly obtained their second subclass before even becoming a Myth, just like
Valyr did.
Surprisingly… that thought excited him.
