Chapter 1097: To Obtain a Core
Chapter 1097: To Obtain a Core
“An Elder Wyvern Core?” Julian raised his eyebrow as he looked back at Valyr in slight confusion. “Where are you gonna use an item like tha—”
“Oh, right.” Fortunately, it did not take much time for him to understand what the young man was planning to do with it, causing him to let out a wry chuckle as he sheepishly smiled. “It’s for that armor of yours.”
“Now that I think about it, it’s been a while since you asked me to grab a Wyvern Core for you,” continued Julian as he laughed at the thought. “If I remember correctly, you asked me for the core sometime before the inheritance.”
“Yeah.” Valyr nodded in response, smiling as he thought about how much he and his armor had already gone through.
Hearing his reply, Julian planned on asking the young man as to why he decided to upgrade his armor, considering how good it already was.
However, before the question could even leave his mouth, the man clamped the thought down as he inwardly shook his head with a smile. “Though I am quite curious to hear why you’ve decided to upgrade your armor, I’ll keep that curiosity to myself.”
“Then again, it doesn’t really take much to figure out why, considering our current circumstances,” said the man with a chuckle before letting out a faint sigh.
“In any case, an Elder Wyvern Core… let me check.”
With Julian pulling his screen before him, Valyr watched as the man go through his messages in a slight frenzy, causing his heart to slightly warm up as he thought about the kindness the man had shown him all this time.
At the same time, the man’s earlier words made him ponder over why he decided on upgrading his armor, his train of thought eventually matching the thoughts that plagued Julian’s mind just earlier.
‘To be honest, the True Wyvern Armor set is already more than enough to support me up to when I become a Legend,’ thought Valyr to himself. ‘In terms of its performance, it’s already one of, if not the best sets of armor one could ask for.’
‘However, when I compare it to the amount of time it took me to go from the Half Wyvern Armor to what it is now… I do think the armor is a bit overdue for an upgrade.’
From the set of Half Wyvern Armor he’d forged in Clossbay City to the Nascent Wyvern Armor that Braum had witnessed him forge in the Imperial Production Guild, only a month had passed between the two.
On the other hand, it took less than a month for him to go from the Nascent Wyvern Armor to the True Wyvern Armor, mostly due to the fact that he needed to increase his combat prowess as much as possible before entering the inheritance.
Considering the number of the days he’d spent in the inheritance in total, only a couple of months had passed for Valyr since he’d transitioned to the True Wyvern Armor.
If one were to view it from the perspective of someone who’d stayed in Veldanyr all this time, then 10 months had already passed since Valyr transitioned to the True Wyvern Armor.
Though, with all of the various realms he’d gone through with varying time ratios while both in and out of the inheritance, the young man had ultimately spent over two years improving himself to where he was today…
While his armor set had remained stagnant all this time.
‘If I looked at it from that perspective, then the armor really is overdue for an upgrade,’ inwardly muttered Valyr to himself, only to then shrug his shoulders soon after. ‘But if I were forced to come up with an actual reason why I’m upgrading what’s already an excellent set of armor…’
‘Then wouldn’t the need for greater strength in the ongoing war be the best reason?’
“Well, Valyr, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.” Just as Valyr was finished with his train of thought, Julian moved his screen to the side as he gave him an update.
“The good news is that the Meltierre Empire branch of the Blacksmith Guild has a few Elder Wyvern Cores in the storage,” the man told him. “After hearing that you’re the one requesting for it, they’ve also decided to give you the scales and claws of an Elder Wyvern.”
“I’ll be needing those scales and claws, actually.” Valyr’s eyes widened in response to the man’s words, causing him to ask Julian if he could relay his thanks to them. “How about the bad news?”
“Well, the bad news is that the Elder Wyvern Cores have already been in their storage for a couple decades already,” replied Julian, to which Valyr immediately frowned in response. “Then again, they did tell me that they wouldn’t mind grabbing a fresh Elder Wyvern Core for you, but it’ll take a while for it to be delivered here with the ongoing war.”
“How long would it take to get here?” asked Valyr after a bit of silence. “Also, how much merit points would I need to pay?”
“According to them, the best case scenario would be around a week to a week and a half,” said Julian with a wry smile. “However, it’s more likely that it’ll take three weeks at the very least for it to come here.”
“As for how much the core would cost, they only plan to charge you the price for the core itself. Consider their act of grabbing a fresh core for you a show of their goodwill.”
“Then again, even if they don’t plan to charge you extra for that, an Elder Wyvern Core would still set you back 400,000 merit points.” At those words, Julian looked at Valyr with a slight
shrug.
“And how much do I have at the moment?” asked the young man back.
“255,000 merit points,” replied the man not long after, causing Valyr’s eyes to widen in surprise once more. “I was already expecting you to ask that question to be honest.”
“That’s… a lot more than I thought I would have,” said Valyr after some time, only to do a bit of computation in his mind to make sure Julian’s figure was in line with what he remembered.
After confirming that the number the man gave him correct, the young man soon thought about the number of Technology Points he had, considering that he earned a similar amount of them whenever he finished a forging quota.
‘I should really take the time to use my Technology Points after this.’ With that thought in mind, Valyr took in a deep breath before looking at Julian with a calm expression.
“So, if my calculations are correct, that means I need to complete three more forging quotas to be able to afford the Elder Wyvern Core, right?”
“With how much I’m giving you per quota, yes.” Julian nodded after some time, only to get an idea of what Valyr was planning to do.
Briefly feeling a hint of fear from the realization, the man inwardly took in a deep breath as he talked some sense into the young man. “Of course, there’s no need for you to do those quotas
all at once.”
“With how long the Elder Wyvern Core would take to arrive here, you could do a forging quota once a week and still have enough merit points to pay for it.”
“In fact, now that I think about it, you could even have the Elder Wyvern Core be part of your conditions for the blueprints you plan on sharing and you’d be able to get it without even spending a single merit point.
Seeing the young man become silent after his lengthy explanation, Julian inwardly let out a sigh of relief as he felt that the young man would make the wise decision to not overexert
himself for no reason.
Unfortunately for him…
Valyr planned on going against Julian’s advice from the start.
“The part about how I could add the Elder Wyvern Core as a condition to the proposals is definitely interesting… but why would I do that if I’m more than capable of getting the core through my own effort?” said Valyr with a teasing smile.
“Plus, even if I did need extra Elder Wyvern Cores in the future, I did say back then that one of the conditions the Blacksmith Guild has to agree upon before I share my blueprint is to be
able to request for any material I want.”
Hearing those words, Julian went silent for a bit as he processed the information in his mind.
Then, letting out a low sigh, he looked back at the young man with a bitter smile. “So, it would be correct to assume you’re planning on completing three sets of forging quotas at
once?”
“I’ve already done two at the same time before,” replied Valyr with a bit of laughter. “What’s wrong with adding another one?”
Letting out yet another sigh at the man’s response, Julian decided not to think about it any further as he fulfilled his duties as the Blacksmith Guild’s Guildmaster.
Ding!
Watching the man in front of him swiftly interact with the system, Valyr soon obtained a notification from his own system in regards to the quest Julian gave him.
Taking a look at its description, the young man nodded after seeing that the rewards were in
line with what he expected.
However, when his eyes fell on the deadline Julian gave him, the young man could not help but inwardly smile. ‘He really gave me two weeks to complete three sets of forging quotas.’
‘I mean, it’s still better than how it was before,’ thought Valyr to himself, recalling the back and forth he had with him when he first wanted to do two quotas at once.
‘But just like before, he still underestimates my capabilities.’
At that thought, the young man recalled the time he spent back in the Mystic Plane, conjuring
all of those arms with Mystic Energy while keeping [Ephemeral Limbs of the First Blacksmith]
active.
‘Then again…’ Thinking about the number of arms he would now be able to work with, Valyr began to grin as he made his way towards a private workshop.
‘Even I don’t know where my capabilities lie now.’
