Chapter 1110 Strength Testing
1110 Strength Testing
Bang!
Arriving at the mission hall’s strength testing area, both Valyr and the attendant were immediately greeted by the sight of people going all out as they struck the training dummies in front of them.
Staring at the training dummies for a bit, the young man was reminded of the training dummies Mystia brought out during the War Forge Assembly, briefly causing him to wryly smile as he inwardly shook his head.
‘Yeah… not gonna bring out the arquebus for this one.’
“Here we are, Sir Ylvar,” said the attendant as he looked at Valyr. “Since all of the training dummies are currently occupied, we’ll have to wait for a bit before we can confirm that you have the strength to complete missions made for 2-star mercenaries.”
At those words, Valyr nodded, only to then ask the attendant a question that came to mind. “Say, is there a limit to how far of a mission I could get as a novice mercenary?”
“Not necessarily,” replied the attendant, briefly watching the strikes some of the people landed on the training dummies. “As long as the person shows that they have the strength to complete it, then they could take on an extremely difficult mission if they wanted to?”
Hearing those words, the young man thought for a bit before responding back. “So, let’s say I decide to grab a mission from the highest rank one could reach. As long as I prove that I have the strength to complete it, then I’ll be able to take it?”
“Technically, that would be the case,” said the attendant as he nodded, only give Valyr a more thorough explanation on how it worked.
Giving Valyr a brief rundown on the ranking system that was currently in place, the attendant explained to him that, for mercenaries, their ranks commonly ranged from Novice Mercenary to 10-Star Mercenary.
After that, one would then go through Iron, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Crimson, with Crimson Mercenary being the highest rank a mercenary could ever achieve on the frontlines.
From what the attendant was telling him, Valyr was only able to do something similar to the question he had up to missions that were made for 10-star mercenaries.
As for missions that were made for Iron Mercenaries and above, not only would he need to reach the rank that preceded the rank that was made for the mission, but he would also have to do a separate strength test after that.
Sensing the confusion in Valyr’s expression during the last part of his explanation, the attendant clarified himself. “In other words, if you want to take on the missions of an Iron Mercenary, you’ll have to reach the 10-Star Mercenary rank first.”
“To take on a Silver Mercenary mission, you’d have to be an Iron Mercenary, and so on, and so forth.”
“I see.” Thanks to the man’s additional explanation, everything finally made sense to Valyr, prompting him to nod in understanding as he thanked the attendant after that.
Using the time they had while waiting for a slot in the strength training area to free up, Valyr decided to build a bit of rapport with the attendant that accompanied him, eventually finding out that his name was Aleos.
“Ah. One of the slots finally freed up.” Just as the topic of the conversation began to revolve around the ongoing war, Aleos noticed that one of the people occupying the strength training area had finally left, urging Valyr to occupy it to save both of their time.
Letting out a chuckle in response, Valyr went ahead and did just that, standing in front of the vacant training dummy not long after.
“Hey there.” Just as Aleos had begun to make his way to where Valyr was, a young woman in her twenties appeared before Valyr, donning a set of clothes that looked similar to what a mechanic wore. “What can I do for you?”
“Strength test, middle of Rank 4,” responded Aleos to the young woman’s question as he faintly smiled. “Protocol.”
“Protocol, eh?” Hearing Aleos’ words, the young woman grinned as she nodded in understanding, only to then send out a few strands of energy towards the training dummy in front of Valyr.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Feeling the training dummy undergo all sorts of changes, Valyr eventually heard the young woman in front of him give him a go signal, telling him that the dummy was ready for the strength test.
“Doesn’t matter how you attack ’em.” The young woman gave him a piece of advice. “As long as you make the dummy’s head flash green, then you pass the strength test.”
“Got it.” Committing her words to memory, Valyr took in a deep breath before landing a solid punch on the dummy’s torso.
Bang!
Putting all of his strength into the punch, it did not take long for the dummy to respond back, causing its head to immediately flash green.
“Well then. I now have confirmation that you have the strength to complete the mission you’ve just chosen.” Glancing at the flashing head in front of Valyr, Aleos took in a deep breath before beginning to infuse a bit of energy into the young man’s identification token.
Whoosh!
Watching a few additional lines being added to his identification token in real time, Valyr went ahead and focused his senses on it, only to realize that the man was just writing down the results of his strength test.
“Alright.” Letting out a faint sigh of relief by the time he was done, Aleos flashed a smile at Valyr before asking, “I’m guessing you wanna take another strength test, right? You wouldn’t have asked those questions earlier for nothing, after all.”
Feeling like he’d been caught red-handed, Valyr flashed a bitter smile back at Aleos before shifting his attention towards the young woman in front of him. “Would it be possible to set the training dummy to the peak of Rank 5?”
“The peak of Rank 5?” Hearing that, both Aleos and the young woman were briefly taken aback. After all, although Valyr showed them how he cleared the test just now with ease, they weren’t sure if the same would apply to his request. “You sure about that?”
“I’m sure.” Valyr nodded with determination, eventually forcing the young woman let out a faint sigh as she adjusted the training dummy accordingly to his preferences.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
“There’s no problem if I use stat-boosting skills, right?” After the training dummy had been adjusted to the peak of Rank 5, Valyr threw this question out at Aleos.
“No.” Aleos shook his head. “That’s also considered as one’s strength, after all. Why do you ask?”
“Just making sure,” said Valyr in response, only for him to flare his aura out in its entirety soon after.
