Chapter 1121 Reunion of the Trio
1121 Reunion of the Trio
Briefly shooting a knowing glance at the two that greeted him, Valyr soon let out a bit of laughter as he replied back, “Has it really been that long since we last met?”
“In any case, I’m really glad to see you two again. Hal. Vera.”
“So are we,” said Vera in response, to which Hal nodded in agreement.
Continuing to grin as he looked at the two of them, Valyr went ahead and looked at the two in greater detail, comparing their current appearances to what they looked like the last time they were at the inheritance.
Unsurprisingly, with how long they’ve been fighting at the frontlines, it went without saying that the two looked a bit worse for wear. Whether it was the expressions on their faces, or the pieces of armor they wore, both were affected by the vicissitudes of time, as well as the harshness of the battlefield itself.
Nevertheless, underneath the layer of exhaustion seen on both their faces and bodies, Valyr also took note of the slightly mature air they were now giving off. From what he could sense, the two also gave a faint hint of combat intent.
‘I guess their experiences at the battlefield have made them primed to fight at any time,’ thought Valyr to himself, inwardly letting out a faint sigh as he could imagine the hardships the two had been through.
Wanting to slightly alleviate a bit of their burdens, Valyr went ahead and led them to one of the nearby restaurants as he struck up a conversation with the two. “So, how have the two of you been these past few months?”
“Pretty good, with all things considered,” replied Hal with a slightly wry smile. “Then again, there have been a few incidents in the past where you could say we’ve had quite the close call.”
With that, Hal went ahead and explained what he meant by his words to Valyr, with Vera adding a few important bits of information here and there when necessary.
By the time the three of them arrived at the restaurant, the two were forced to put their story on hold for a bit as Valyr asked them what meals they wanted to eat.
Hearing that the young man was paying for their meals, it went without saying that the two thanked him for the kind gesture, to which Valyr smiled in response.
Surprisingly, it was only after their meals arrived did the two continue their story, chuckling as they realized there was nothing that would stop them or interrupt them anymore.
Seeing the two readily ignore the meals they ordered, Valyr could not help but wryly smile as he continued to listen to their story, only to become engrossed in it not even a few minutes later.
For a while after that, the three felt as if they were in a world of their own, with only the words that left their mouths being the things that connected them together.
Fortunately, the three eventually realized that an hour had already passed since they arrived at the restaurant, eliciting embarrassed smiles to appear on their faces as they silently ate their meals.
Nevertheless, that did not stop the three from forming a tacit agreement whilst they were eating their meals, their minds already wandering off to the place they met up earlier.
Because of that, it went without saying that the three of them soon finished their respective meals within a couple more minutes, only to beeline straight to the center of the military base after that.
Whether it was the excitement of being able to see each other again or the curiosity of being able to find out what the other side was doing, the three surprisingly did not run out of things to tell each other.
In the end, it was only after the sun had passed its zenith did the three finally run out of steam as all of them looked at each other with content smiles on their faces.
“To think the two of you had gone through all of that while I was still in the inheritance,” said Valyr with a wry smile as he looked at the two of them. “And that doesn’t even include the fact that the two of you decided to enter a relationship because of it.”
“Hehe.” Hal let out a chuckle in response, feeling immense pride at the fact that he’d become Vera’s boyfriend.
On the other hand, Vera’s face slightly turned red because of Valyr’s words. Then again, the faint smile on her face showed him that she was also happy with how things turned out.
“Enough about us, though,” said Hal after some time, grinning as he recalled the things Valyr said to them during their conversation. “Who knew you were the Azure Blade everyone’s been talking about in the frontlines lately?”
“Becoming a 6-star mercenary in just a week… even the people on our side of the frontlines have been talking about how nice it’d be to have a person like you on their group.”
“Please don’t call me that,” replied Valyr with an exasperated sigh, briefly telling the two how his nickname came to be. “It would’ve been better if they stayed with the first nickname they came up for me.”
“Lightning Rookie?” asked Hal back. “Didn’t that one come about because of how quickly you rose through the ranks?”
“Exactly.” Valyr nodded in agreement. “I’d rather be called that, to be honest.”
“But Azure Blade as a nickname does fit for you,” replied Hal, ignoring the frown that appeared on Valyr’s face. “After all, you’ve already showed us how powerful that dark blue energy is back in the inheritance.”
“Speaking of which, I’m now kind of curious.” As these words left his mouth, Hal began to release a bit of his combat intent into his surroundings, causing some of the passersby to look at him.
Though, once they realized he was the one giving out that faint combat intent, many of them began to look at him with shock and surprise.
In response to that, Valyr began to look at him with a raised eyebrow out of curiosity.
However, before he could even voice his curiosity out, Hal’s next words caused him to push his thoughts to the side as he looked back at the man with a faint smile.
“You know how nicknames on the battlefield come about. Is your nickname of Azure Blade just for show? Is death really the conclusion whenever one sees an azure light on the battlefield?”
“What do you think?” Ignoring the last question Hal asked him, Valyr let out a chuckle as he immediately figured out what Hal wanted him to do. “Wanna head to the battlefield right now to see if my nickname is well-deserved?”
“Surely you won’t mind, right?” Having his intentions seen through by the young man in front of him, Hal wryly smiled for a bit before giving the young man a slightly competitive gaze.
“Why do you think I’d mind?” With their conversation more or less confirming their next steps, the three of them eventually began to make their way to the main mission hall.
“After all, if you think about it, we’ll be able to find out who among the three of us has grown the most since leaving the inheritance.”
