Chapter 978: Laying Out the Groundwork

Chapter 978: Laying Out the Groundwork

“Now that I think about it, calling it a faction doesn’t right.”

“It would be better to call it an alliance.”

Even though the thought of forming his own alliance was something he considered he’d do at the very end of everything, it wasn’t as if he’d forgotten the reason why he wanted to form an alliance in the first place.

The final battle.

Due to their side of the final battle not being united enough to defend against the onslaught of the opposing side, they were easily wiped out, rendering the planet they lived in a shell of its former self.

With that, Valyr was taking the initiative to form an alliance beforehand that would act as the one uniting everyone against those that would oppose them at the final battle.

Then again, the reason why Valyr held back on forming the alliance at the beginning of his journey through Veldanyr was because he did not have the necessary strength nor the resources to establish one.

Of course, trying to establish one now was a different story.

Though he was still considered to be a peak Rank 3 class holder, his combat ability had the potential to exceed Legends, even giving him the ability to fight against a couple of Myth- level beings if need be.

As for resources, he could gain access to those in spades as long as he forged a couple weapons that were strong enough to garner the interest of many.

For reference, the ten pieces of Rare+ grade equipment he sold through the Blacksmith Guild had garnered him a profit of 300 platinum coins.

On the other hand, the Epic+ grade spear he’d sold through the auction was able to fetch a final price of 30 platinum cards.

In other words, 3,000 platinum coins.

Aside from that, he felt like he could easily garner support for his alliance with the help of Julian and Noel, allowing the name of the alliance to spread throughout the continent.

Plus, as long as he used the name of the alliance while he was fighting against the orcs on the frontlines, its prestige would spread even further, making it a lucrative organization for others to join.

“An alliance, huh?” Ryvrthe pondered over Valyr’s words, rubbing his chin for a bit. “What’s the goal of the alliance, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Hmm…” Though he’d already expected the man’s question, Valyr still pondered over the question, choosing his words wisely. “For now, think of it as an organization that’s focused on keeping Veldanyr safe.”

“Keeping Veldanyr safe… how?” asked Ryvrthe back, wondering if Valyr was forming an alliance against beings beyond Veldanyr.

With that, the young man decided to give Ryvrthe a brief overview of what was going on in Veldanyr at the moment, causing the man’s expression to become somewhat grim by the time he was done.

“We’re currently fighting a war against beings called… orcs?” asked Ryvrthe to Valyr, making sure his train of thought was correct. “And the humans of Veldanyr are currently on the losing end?”

“Currently, it’s still more or less even,” said Valyr in response. “But it won’t be long until the scales tip towards the orcs’ favor.”

“How has it gotten to this point?” Ryvrthe looked at Valyr with confusion. “I’ve heard from Vaughn during our conversation that he’d helped humans get to where they are now.”

“Even though they don’t have access to technology as advanced as what we had back then, don’t they have access to technology sufficiently advanced enough to fight back?”

“What age of technology do you think the humans of Veldanyr are at right now?” asked Valyr in response to the man’s words, understanding the man’s current train of thought.

Pondering over it for a bit, Ryvrthe briefly looked into Valyr’s eyes before confidently replying, “The Machine Age, at the very least.”

“Try an even earlier age,” said Valyr in response, equipping the True Wyvern Armor he’d yet to repair through the Blacksmith Guild.

“…Surely it’s not below the Age of Scientific Revolution?” replied Ryvrthe after a bit of pondering, knowing that Valyr’s actions were deliberate.

“Even earlier than that.” Valyr gave him a bitter smile. “With all things considered, human technology is currently at the end of the Early Middle Ages.”

“…” Hearing those words, Ryvrthe immediately went silent, closing his eyes for a bit as his expression gradually contorted into a frown. Sᴇaʀch* Thᴇ ɴovᴇlꜰirᴇ.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of nøvels early and in the highest quality.

By the time he opened his eyes, the man let out a long and exasperated sigh before looking back at Valyr. “I think I now understand why Vaughn told me that you wouldn’t mind me and the others leaving the inheritance.”

“Well, if that’s the case, then so be it,” said Ryvrthe not long after, his expression now that of determination. “Rather than let the knowledge I’ve accumulated throughout these years be kept here, I’d rather have it be of great use instead.”

“I’m guessing that’s also part of the reason why you’ve decided to tell me you want to form an alliance with me and the others?” asked the man after that, to which Valyr nodded without hesitation.

“Well, it’s not like we’ll actually be starting from scratch,” said Valyr in response to Ryvrthe’s words, bringing out the arquebus he’d forged from his spatial bracelet. “I do have knowledge of more advanced technology thanks to the inheritance.”

“A modified matchlock arquebus.” Ryvrthe’s eyes widened in slight surprise as he immediately figured out what Valyr brought out. “Back when Veldanyr was still in its heyday, that would’ve been considered a relic of ancient past.”

“But to think that the weapon you’ve forged is now at the forefront of ranged warfare,” continued the man, letting out a slightly mocking chuckle after that. “How far does your knowledge of technology extend, if I might ask?”

“The First Industrial Revolution,” replied Valyr, eliciting a look of surprise to appear on Ryvrthe’s face. “However, if you’re asking me what age of technology I could readily apply, then it would probably hover around the Renaissance Age.”

“The Renaissance Age, huh…” Rubbing his chin once more, the gears in Ryvrthe’s mind began to madly turn as he briefly glanced at the various items within his space. “I think we can slowly work our way from that.”

“In any case, before we start talking about establishing an alliance of sorts, the other Forsaken Ones should learn about the current language just like I did,” he continued.

“I could make use of the device I used back when we first met to do so, but the amount of energy needed to power it is more than what’s left.”

“In other words, you want me to find a way to generate electricity,” replied Valyr after thinking about it for a bit, making Ryvrthe pause for a bit before eventually nodding in

response.

“I’m guessing Vaughn taught you about the concept of electricity, but yes. We need to get our hands on electricity generation before we can continue,” said the man. “Then again, electricity isn’t just something that can only be used to recharge the device I used.”

“As long as we put our mind to it, with the help of electricity…”

“We could possibly restore human technology back to its former glory.”
