Chapter 147 - Reunion

Chapter 147 – Reunion

Del rested on the comfy white cloud that was beneath his entire body. He never thought that dying would be this comfortable. He was just tired, it was time to take a rest. The cloud where he was resting felt like the most comfortable mattress he ever slept on. He didn't want to wake up. He just wanted to stay there.

He failed to get Anna her revenge, but he was also a bit glad about his current fate. A dead person shouldn't meddle with living people's business. He just enjoyed the calming breeze of wind and the soft cloud mattress where he was laying down on.

He had killed so many people and he had done so many crimes. He still couldn't believe that he would rest in this kind of peace. Nothing was happening in that place, but it was alright, even the soothing sound of the wind and the blue sky on top of him was more than enough. He just wanted to have a rest from the chaotic world.

He wanted to move, but he preferred not to. It was just how comfy the cloud was. He might not die in his best condition. He believed that his dead body was laying down in an underground cellar with its skull smashed to bits.

"Mmmmhhh," someone mumbled.

The groan was very very familiar, Anna's voice. He then asked, "Anna, where are you?"

"Here!" Someone shouted from his right.

Del nodded to his right as he was laying down on the cloud. Anna was pretty much the same. She was laying down on the cloud as well. This time, she didn't have any trace of her burn injury or any trace of a wound in her body.

Basically, it was Anna if she was normal. It seemed that she had died as well. This couldn't be fake Anna, the response was exactly like her without any minus. Del stood up from the comfy cloud and walked in her direction.

He was barefooted, and his clothing was just a white shirt and black pants. It just looked like a default view, to be honest and Anna was using the same clothing as well. Anna was also enjoying the comfy clouds.

Del sat down on the comfy clouds and asked her, "Did you also die as well?"

"Yeah."

"How?"

"They burned me alive after they waterboarded me with gasoline, long story short."

"I see."

"How about you, Del?" Anna asked.

"They smashed my skull with a pipe wrench."

"Ohh. Well, what should we do here? It seems that there are only both of us."

Del shrugged, "I don't know. Let's just enjoy the moment."

"Hmm, yeah."

Del sat down on the cloud. He looked at his surrounding. It was not all clouds it seemed. There was something on the north side, there was a small island surrounded by a lake. In that small island was a house, similar to their old house in the old world. Well, it was their house on Earth, more or less.

"Anna, hey, is that our house?" Del shook Anna to wake her up.

"What?" Anna sat down on the cloud and she looked at the direction he was pointing at. "Yeah, that's our house, weird. Should we walk there?"

"I think so. How can we die after we die?"

Del and Anna stood up from the cloud and he walked towards the direction of that house. There was a concrete bridge connecting the clouds and the road towards the house. He and Anna crossed the bridge and they approached the house.

Del put his hand on the door handle. He remembered the exact same feeling when he did that. Opening the door handle sent a feeling of emptiness. He just sighed, the house would be empty anyhow. He opened the door handle.

He stepped his feet on the wooden tiles of the house. It had been so long. The house was still the same as when he and Anna left it. The TV was still turned off, but the house was suspiciously clean, just like when his mother still lived.

"I don't remember I cleaned the dishes before we left," Anna commented.

"Neither do I." Del scratched his head.

"Ah, you two are back."

A woman came back from a room that happened to be their parents' bedroom. The woman's hair was still wet. She was probably just returned from the bathroom. It was not the condition that made him care, but the person himself. Isabella Moore, or in short, his mother.

Del was scratching his head, but Anna immediately hugged her. Although he felt wrong for asking it, but he asked, "Are you real?"

Isabella didn't answer, but Del got tapped on his shoulder, "Hey, how are you?" Del peeked back and he knew that person. It was basically Del's body double, or rather, his own father. The killed-in-action special force soldier was walking right behind him. Captain Henry Moore, a former operator operating outside of legal jurisdiction.

"Pa? You are alive? How? You got exploded in Dagestan, am I right?"

"Are you alive?" Henry just asked him the same question.

"I don't think so."

"That's your answer."

So, this was some sort of after-life reunion, huh? Del and Anna wouldn't mind. At least, they wouldn't be alone in that room. Still, they had a lot to ask and a lot to talk about. After all, their death was pretty much mysterious and covered in mystery.

This afterworld was even questionable, why was his house, and why was his family? But Del wouldn't worry too much about it. Del sat down on the comfy couch of the house and he looked at the table. There were four cups of coffee. It looked like their parents were prepared for his coming.

"You two have an idea that we will come?"

"Yeah, we have," Henry answered.

"So, you two have predicted that we would die today?" Del asked.

"It's a long story, but yes. Let's just say that we have a letter from above," Henry said.

"Ok? I guess? Weird, but ok, I guess?" Anna commented.

"Yeah. Anyway, I think neither of you has eaten, I cooked something special for both of you," Isabelle said.

"Sure, mom, I'll get a plate."

Del grabbed plates from the dishwasher and put them on the table. He helped his father to clean the desk while Anna helped her mother to pick up and reheat the meal. Del sat down on the chair as Anna served him the meal.

Del conversed with his father, and what his father said to him was a little bit shocking, "How's another world?"

"It's filled with crap that is outside of my jurisdiction. Like, I'm now involved inside of a conspiracy bullshits between two countries because of what had happened. It's been like a domino for me, to be honest," Del said.

"Hahaha, well, it's not like Earth is any better, son. If you mess with the wrong person, you'll get killed. It's the rules, isn't it?"

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"I connected the story of your mother's death with my death. While I die because of a gunshot wound while fighting in the enemy's region, your mother was assassinated to make sure neither of us talks."

"Wait, my mother was assassinated?"

"Yeah, I think. I don't know who did it, but your mother is definitely assassinated. She is probably assassinated by one of my comrades. Well, you will understand it when the time comes. After all, we really don't expect you two to accept that your father works in a field that will make your mother assassinated."

Del sighed. If this was a normal situation on Earth, he would probably have slapped his father in the face, but again, this was the afterlife. He wouldn't bother with the past, mainly because he had died and he didn't care anymore.

Anna also overheard the conversation, but her reaction was as flat as Del. Probably working with intelligence agencies and an egomaniac king would turn people to be like them. They had seen too much on the dark side of the military. Right now, they just wanted to enjoy the reunion.

"That's quite a heavy statement, pa," Anna commented.

"Hey, what can I do? A dead person can't manipulate a living person's business. I'm really sorry about it, but it might be a decision from the top to let your mother die."

"It's not like Anna hadn't experienced her fair share of military cruelty," Del sighed.

His father was both confused and surprised, "What do you mean? Did the government steal my daughter too? Or did they do something to her?"

"Well, this sounds like a lie. Anyway, Anna and I were transported to another world. I was thrown away, and Anna was burned alive. I was lucky to find her just in the right time. If not, I don't know what will happen to her. She'd probably be here sooner than me. But well, at least, we're together now."

"Not so fast."
