Chapter 27 - Bounty Hunters And System Upgrade
Chapter 27 – Bounty Hunters And System Upgrade
Cole moved carefully among the dead bodies while stabbing every single dead body's neck. He wanted to makes sure that everyone dead stayed dead. He didn't want anyone to rise up and suddenly attacked him and Del.
Del kept his MG-42 in his hands while aimed at Cole's general direction. Del kept an eye for anyone that tried to ambush Cole. His weapon which fire rate could hit as fast as 25 rounds per second would make a quick work of anyone.
Cole approached that carriage.
"Lize, come out, it's safe now," Cole knocked on the door of the carriage.
"Cole, c'mon, it's not like she will understand you," Del said.
"Why don't you try then?" Cole walked away from the carriage.
Del knocked on the door of the carriage, "Mrs. Lize, this is me, Del, I'm your previous bodyguard."
The carriage opened and Lize came out of the carriage. It looked like the carriage was indeed reinforced with steel. No wonder why the mages and the swordsmen had difficulty in opening up that carriage.
"Lize, are you alright?" Del asked.
"Thank you so much," Lize hugged Del without any hesitation.
Del pushed Lize away, "Let's keep things professional between us."
"I understand. Still, what can I do for you? What are you doing here anyway?" Lize asked.
"Nothing. Well, I was on the way to Alder when I saw you," Del said.
Lize looked surprised, "Such a coincidence. If not for you, I don't know whether I can talk to you or not."
"I see, can you ride a carriage alone?" Del asked.
"I can, why do you ask?" Lize asked.
"Cole and I won't escort you to Midham. You're on your own," Del said.
"Fine by me," Lize said.
"Cole, can you ride a horse?" Del asked.
"Of course I can, what do you think I take an ORSEDE training for?" Cole asked.
"Fine, fine, I want you to detach one horse from the carriage. We will ride it to Alder. In the meantime, I will plunder these bounty hunters," Del explained.
Del started plundering the body of the bounty hunters. The bounty hunters seemed to be better equipped this time. Del looked for a sword that was better than the cheap sword that he carried. If he found one, it would be more than helpful.
After all, Del had found a nice black knife. Another black sword would be more than appreciated. After all, the knife was quite sharp. He tested the knife out on the table on the inn and it made quite a dent on the wood of the table. Del hoped Rina didn't notice it.
Del kept searching for money and any weaponry that he could use. The bounty hunters were carrying more money than he expected. He even thought it might be a good idea to hunt down the bounty hunters every once in a while to gain more funds for his system.
After all, a low-end bounty hunter was usually weaker than him as of now. It was not when he didn't have any modern weaponry in his arsenal. If he gained enough funds to live lavishly in this world, it would be more than good.
Cole detached a horse from the carriage that the bounty hunters brought. He brought something out of the bounty hunters' carriage. It was a saddle and a tack. He attached the saddle on top of the horse and the tack on the horse. Del put all of the coins that he got into his pocket. It should be the safest place to place them as of now.
"Del, c'mon, I'm ready to go," Cole said.
"Yeah, let's move," Del got on top of the horse while Cole riding it.
Both of them headed to Alder with their pockets full of money. It was a good decision to loot the bounty hunters after all. Hopefully, it wouldn't spark any jealousy when he brought all of the gold coins into his backpack.
=====
"What? You just took down an entire team of bounty hunters? Alone?" Lynia glared at Del.
"Yes, I did," Del said.
"Damn, are you really an F-rank?" Lynia asked.
"I'm an F-rank, but I'm a good specialized marksman," Del said.
David nodded, "I make the right decision to put you into our team then."
Howard didn't speak anything neither does Lizbeth. Maybe Howard just disliked Del with his mercenary mindset, and Lizbeth was too shy to initiate a conversation. Cole couldn't even speak the human language.
They would be staying in the guild building for today. The sky had gone orange as well. It was way better than camping out in the open with the risk of a random bandit's attack. It was not something that the party wanted to face.
Well, Cole probably would be able to hold them off, but Del wanted to sleep comfortably without any disruption. Bandits tended to attack an adventurer's camp. It was simply not safe to sleep outside.
"Anyway, we have rented a room for you two. You two will be sleeping in Room 2. It's on the second floor of the guild building," David gave Del a key.
"Thanks," Del retrieved the key.
Del grabbed his backpack and his weapons. He headed inside of the guild building alongside Cole. There was no need to speak to the guild secretary. He was there to stay, not to take a quest. Del headed for the stairs.
The guild building of Alder gave a different atmosphere. If the guild building in Midham gave a more sophisticated atmosphere of a high-end class, the guild building in Alder gave a more welcoming atmosphere for a middle-low class like Del.
Del walked into the hallway of the second floor to search for his room. He walked to the end of the hallway until he found his room which was at the end of the hallway. A plate on the door of the room clearly read "6".
Del opened the door.
The room was better than his room. It was expected. A large white bed was in the center of the room. There was a desk in front of it alongside one chair. A wardrobe was placed next to the bed. There was also another door located right beside the desk.
Del put his heavy backpack on the table alongside the MG-42 and the Kar98. The first thing that he wanted to do was to contact Pidma again. He felt that killing that many enemies by himself should increase his level.
"Pidma, can you show my status?" Del asked.
"Who are you talking to?" Cole asked.
Del searched for the right excuse, "Emm, my spirit."
"Do you have a spirit?" Cole asked.
"I thinkā¦ I do," Del said.
"Fine, I won't ask anymore," Cole said.
"Pidma, are you there?"
[I'm here. Showing Status]
[Del Moore] [Level: 20]
Strength: 69
Agility: 45
Vitality: 70
Aptitude: 12
Perception: 58
Skills: Language Comprehension | Marksmanship LVL.14 | Firearms Comprehension LVL.12
Magical Energy: 960/960
Health Point: 14000/14000
"Damn, I should be killing people more often," Del smiled.
In Cole's eyes. Del looked like a deranged person and a killing machine while speaking with his spirit.
"Del, are you ok?" Cole asked.
"I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm just talking to my spirit," Del said.
Del continued speaking with Pidma.
"Does my tech-level increase?"
[Yes]
"Cool, is there something new for me?" Del asked.
[There are a lot of new features for you. Do you want to see it?]
"Sure."
[Tech Level: 3][System Upgrade Available]
[Vehicle][Weapons][Ammo][Amenities][Building][Gear & Items]
"Upgrade yourself then," Del said.
[Upgrade Cost: 10,000$]
"Holy shit, I did find more than one hundred gold coins in the bodies of those bounty hunters, but what will you offer when I upgrade you?" Del asked.
[Displaying 2.0 Patch Note]
-New feature: Killstreak
-Ability to share system
-Ability to upgrade weaponry
-Ability to customize weaponry
"What's a killstreak?"
[Killstreak is an ability to call a support unit when a certain condition is met. Killstreak also unlocks the ability to call support far more superior than your tech level. This also means that you'll be able to call in a strong support team at a price]
"For example?"
[You can call an AC-130 Gunship to support you]
"AC-130??? That flying gunship? That's very overpowered," Del said.
[It's not cheap]
"Well, what's the cheap option?" Del asked.
[You can also call in a special force unit to assist you in your combat, but that's not cheap either]
"I said, what's the cheap option?"
[You can call in a mobile turret, but that's not cheap]
"I will say it one more time, I want the cheapest option," Del asked.
[You can call an M2 Browning to your location after you have purchased an M2 Browning]
"That's quite generous actually," Del said.
[Do you want to upgrade?]
"Yes, upgrade yourself, will you?"
